What makes a Dad?

God took the strength of a mountain

The majesty of a tree

The warmth of the summer sun,

The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,

The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages,

The power of the eagle’s flight,

The joy of a morning in spring,

The faith of a mustard seed,

The patience of eternity,

The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,

When there was nothing more to add,

He knew his masterpiece was complete,

And so,

He called it…..Dad!!!!

Hurricane season is Here!

Hurricane season is upon us and officially starts on the

1st of June.

Before the wind starts to blow, there are a few items

that you should stow. Once we get information from

the weather bureau that a possible hurricane is nearing

the Tampa area we should all be ready and follow the

Greeter for ew Residents

We need your help in greeting our new residents as they move in. If there is anyone interested in taking on this little task we sure would like to

hear from you.

The only time you would need to visit is when we get in new residents during any month of the year and that is maybe anywhere from 4 to 9

visits a year , give or take a few. All you have to do is pay them a visit, maybe take a little token gift, explain a little about Southfork and what

is offered here in the way of activities, clubs, card games etc. It would be entirely up to you and what and how you would like to do it.

This is a good way of meeting new people, learning more yourself on what is going on and just showing we are friendly people here. This also

helps the new resident in feeling more comfortable and willing to join in an event they are interested in and feel like part of family here in

Southfork. They would also have a contact name in cases of any question they may have.

If interested please contact, Dot Cady @ 352-567-6456.

from the Association President

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

There is an old saying, “the flesh may be weak, but the spirit is willing.”

Hattie Lane was an example of that!!!!!

When no one volunteered to run for Vice President of the Association, Hattie called me to volunteer to give all the

support she could muster.

She was definitely the person behind the scene, making calls, giving advice and cheering from the sidelines.

She will be missed!

Dot Cady, President

From orm’s Desk

This is what I call paradise weather. We have had a good spring/summer so far and are finally

catching up on hedge trimmings and our park is starting to get back to normal after the terrible

winter we have had.

I would like to remind everyone that you may leave trimmings from your shrubs etc. out for the

garbage men and they will pick them up with your regular trash pick up.

If your house needs washing, I have a man who will do it for less if we have four or five to do in

a day. Please, contact me if you wish to be added to the list.

Those of you going north, please have a great summer and drive safely.

Norm

Women’s Club On May 5th, 40 members of the Women’s Club met in the Clubhouse for their monthly meeting.

The social part of the meeting was done by Charlotte Lynch, Pat Lynch and Gail Monahan and the tables were nicely

decorated with fantastic food.

We had approval of the minutes of April 7th and the treasurer’s report was also approved. Shirley Rouer of the Charity

Committee thanked the resident’s of Southfork for their generous contribution in bringing 118 lbs of coffee for our

troops. Thanks to Phil McPheron who delivered the coffee with some money for postage to Bob Williams who send

these to the troops.

On Sunday, February 13, 2011 we will have another Chili supper with another special auction followed by a game of

“Oldie, Newly Wed’s” which should be a lot of laughs and fun and you can‘t miss this one. This event will be held in

conjunction with the Men’s Club. Watch for more details in the fall on the bulletin board!

We are starting our summer meetings and decided to go to the Village Inn on, Wednesday, June 2nd at

10:00am.

June 19th, the women’s club will have a breakfast to honor all the fathers in the community. Please sign up and it is

free for all the men and a $3.00 fee for the women.

Because we are going out for the months of June and July, we will not be collecting any food for the poor and will

resume the collection in August.

After we closed the meeting, we had a nice buffet prepared by our social group. Thank you for a job well done.

Marielle, President

Successful Charity Projects

Our goal in collecting coffee for our troops was 100 bags and we exceeded that with 119 bags! We also received

several personal hygiene items, including toothbrushes & paste, deodorant, tampons, soap, Kleenex, wipes, 6 pair sox

and miscellaneous items. Also received were 55 “beanie babies” which the service people hand out to kids in Iraq &

Afghanistan. This has resulted in some cases of the children warning our troops where mines are located, this

probably resulting in many lives saved.

$220.00 was also donated toward postage of packages mailed. We thank everyone for the fantastic response--a special

thank you to Howard Dickenson and Bill Laforest for their extra donations and Phil McPheron for delivering

everything to Bob Williams in Wesley Chapel who ships packages to our troops every month.

In a second project of Sunrise Battered Women’s Shelter asking for purses for the women, we received two large

garbage bags full (30 or more) and they were very pleased to receive them, plus some clothes that were donated. We

told them we would probably see them in the Fall with more items.

As usual, members of the Women’s Club and residents of Southfork have given 110% to our Charity projects.

Thank you, Shirley Rouer and Mary Bolin

SOUTHFORK LADIES BREAKFAST

The Ladies and Mothers of Southfork were honored at a recent event held in the clubhouse on May 8th.

The recently formed Southfork Men’s Club hosted the event in pay tribute to the women of Southfork.

Even though a lot of the residents have gone home for the summer months, the Men’s Club had

approximately 14 members to help plan for and execute the event.

Over 70 residents, spouses and/or significant others attended the breakfast which consisted of scrambled

eggs, link sausage, toast, OJ and coffee. This event was the first planned activity of this type for the Men’s

Club and the program came off without any glitches. A few of the guys did prep in the kitchen, some others

set the tables, a couple of other men worked the serving line, the rest sold tickets and did clean up duties

etc.

Mary Bolin started the event with her prayer of thanks, Dot Cady thanked the Men’s Club for their

thoughtfulness on the project and Tony Trubiano got in the last word.

On behalf of the Men’s Club it was our pleasure to serve the Ladies of Southfork! We are looking forward

to planning this again for next year.

Hamburger Pie

Crescent rolls form the top and bottom “buns” that are filled with ground beef and shredded cheese. It’s the

easiest way to serve hamburgers.

Ingredients:

1 ½ pounds ground beef

1 can (10 ¾ oz) Campbell’s Condensed Cream of Mushroom soup

2 packages (8oz each) refrigerated crescent rolls

Your favorite shredded cheese

Directions:

Cook the beef in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat until well browned, stirring often to separate meat.

Pour off any fat. Stir the soup into this mixture unitl well mixed.

Unroll 1 package crescent roll dough and press on the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie plate. Press

the seams to seal.

Layer half the beef mixture and half the cheese in the pie plate. Repeat the layers.

Unroll the remaining dough. Place the dough over the filling and press the edges to seal. With a fork or

knife make just a few holes to let steam out.

Bake at 350 degrees for approx 15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.

THAKS TO YOU ALL

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped or attended any of our Wednesday Cookouts this

season.

Without those who volunteered to be on our cookout teams the event would not be possible. Those kind folks set up

tables, wiped down tables, cooked and helped serve food to our patrons, then reversed the process and cleaned up the

pool area at the end of each evening.

Thanks to our patrons who took the time to come to the cookouts. I hope you enjoyed visiting with your neighbors and

friends and that you also enjoyed our varied menu that we tried to prepare for you.

Because of the extreme weather this winter we were only able to hold 13 cookouts and had to cancel 12 so our track

record was about 50%. Even though we had a very reduced amount of events we still managed to make a small profit

for the Association. Last year we made a fair amount of money for the association even though we tried to keep the

menu prices lower than what you pay if you went off the property for a meal. This year we made a lot lower profit

than last year because of the limited events but still managed to make a minimal profit of approximately $500

(including 50/50). As you know this money is used in the treasury for the association to purchase items for the

membership and also to provide entertainment venues for the membership.

Once again, special heartfelt thanks to all who helped or attended our Wednesday Night Cookouts.

Sincerely, Jim (Bubba J) Morvatz
