President’s Message
We just got through a very busy first quarter of the year and
it has been a roller coaster ride with many activities. If you did not
attend any of the activities I want to say that you missed out on
many events that Pearl Harbor members were involved in.
Here’s a snapshot at what we were involved in and what’s
coming up in the next few months. Pearl Harbor members were
involved with the Prince Kuhio Festivals Celebration. On March
24th we had a memorial ceremony for Prince Kuhio at Mauna`ala;
on March 25th we were involved with the Prince Kuhio Parade in
Waikiki, then after the parade we had a snack booth at Ho`ike`ike,
and a luahala craft demonstration under the craft tent. Finally, we
attended Ali`i Sunday at Kawaiahao Church celebrating Prince
Kuhio’s birthday, and ended with Ke Ahe Lau Makani that same
evening at Kawaiahao Church. There was a good showing of many
of our members at all these activities.
If you have been following and are interested in the
voyaging canoe HOKULEA on their travels around the world then
you will be interested to know that they will be returning to
Hawai`i on Saturday, June 14. The voyaging canoe HIKIANALIA
went to Tahiti to meet up with the HOKULEA and both voyaging
canoes will be coming back together. They will be coming into
3
port at Ala Moana Beach, “Magic Island”. We should be proud of
the officers and crew that made the trip around the world spreading
not only the “Aloha Spirit” but also showing the world how we all
can empower everyone to be conscious on living sustainable. I’m
asking our membership to go and welcome the entire crew back
from this voyage. We all should be there to see this spectacular
arrival that is a once in a lifetime site. If you want to be a volunteer
for this welcome home celebration you can call me for more
information. Our Club has been invited to become involved with
Hokule`a’s homecoming.
If you don’t feel like being around this crowd, then may I
suggest that you help with the King Kamehameha Hula
Celebration that’s going to be held at Neal Blaisdell Arena on
Saturday, June 14, 2017. We will need at least 15 people to help
with this event. If you are interested in helping, may I suggest that
you call chairperson Alberta Low at 455-9400 after 5:00pm and let
her know that you would be able to help with this club project.
This is a potluck event so you may want to bring your favorite dish
to share. We’re looking for more members to come out to our
activities and get involved so if you’re available please participate
in our activities so we can get to know you.
A hui hou,
Charles Kapua
President
