MORE INFO
Financial support from the colleges assists many undergraduate students to live minutes from the Parkville campus in a supportive, vibrant and diverse collegiate community.
Scholarships, bursaries and employment are all on offer to new and continuing residents. The range of assistance includes specific support for regional and rural students, interstate students and international students, Indigenous students and those students who are first in their family to attend university.
Scholarships may be awarded on the basis of academic excellence, achievement in music and sport, or for community service and leadership.
Students may find their course’s faculty has a joint scholarship with particular colleges.
Employment at the colleges in the kitchens, libraries, and administration can also provide a reduction in fees for some students.
All applicants to the colleges will be considered for financial support, once they have completed the application process including an interview. The selection criteria are diverse, due to the wide range of specific scholarships and bursaries.
You are encouraged to research each college’s individual financial support offerings via the Intercollegiate website.
Support at MelbourneThe University also offers a range of other grants, prizes, awards and bursaries to our students. Grants are available to undertake volunteering or leadership activities, awards and prizes are available for outstanding academic achievement, and bursaries are available for a variety of needs.
Once you’re a student at Melbourne, make sure you check with your relevant faculty or student centre to find out about the grants, prizes and awards available.

My scholarship makes life easier for my family
“I was lucky to be awarded a scholarship that is dedicated to helping young women from rural areas. My scholarship goes toward my College fees at Whitley College and it also means I do not need to find a job right away and can focus more on getting used to my studies and life in Melbourne.”Julia Boatman First Year at Whitley CollegeBachelor of ScienceInvergowrie Scholarship

Fascinating and challenging
“Ever since I started my degree I’ve been thinking and talking about spending some time out of the country on exchange. I always had UChile as my first preference, and I was lucky to be accepted almost straight away. I also qualified for a University grant, which paid for my ticket there and back. After my exchange finished, I travelled through Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. I highly recommend that you make time to travel after your exchange.”Simon Liley Bachelor of ScienceThe University of ChileSantiago, Chile
