Please enjoy this official directory of the golf courses of the South Central Section of the PGA of America, which includes Oklahoma, Arkansas, and southern Kansas. This directory is a wholly owned and copywrited product of South Central Golf, Inc., which produces South Central Golf, the official publication of the South Central PGA Section. It is supported by PGA Golf Passport which provides free or discounted golf at more than 230 courses in the section. For subscription information or specials on the PGA Passport, visit www.southcentralgolf.com.
The directory is divided by state and by public or private courses. All semi-private courses are listed as public courses, although some resort courses who wished to be listed in the private section do accept outside play. Course lengths are listed from championship and what would normally be considered regular men’s tees, although many courses offer up to five or six sets of tees.
Please use this directory freely as a guide to course information or to select new places to visit. This information, as well as up-to-date golf news from throughout the section, is available online at www.southcentralgolf.com. We encourage our readers to play as many section courses as possible and to support our advertisers who make this directory possible.

“Sink more than a putt in Louisiana. Go to the French Market and sink a beignet into some café au lait. Down here, you can play the 12 courses of the Audubon Golf Trail year round–and afterwards, you can listen to live music, eat gumbo, tour a plantation, or go fresh or saltwater fi shing. It’s all good, y’all.”
Golf courses are open all year, weather and playing conditions permitting. Call the resort of your choice and

Alabama has more world-class public courses than any other state in America. So why would youwant to go golfing anyplace else?
Let’s start with The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. It’s 24 courses spanning the state, includingtwo brand-new ones at Ross Bridge near Birmingham, and The Shoals near Florence, where youwill find the already-famous Fighting Joe course. Both Golf Magazine and Travel+Leisure Golf named itone of their Top 10 best new courses in America.
And while The New York Times called The Trail “some of the best public golf on Earth,” we call itjust the beginning. That’s because you’ll find another half-dozen challenging public courses on Alabama’s Gulf Coast.
Like the stunning Kiva Dunes course or Craft Farms, featuring courses designed by Arnold Palmer and Larry Nelson. And of course, sprinkled throughout the state are other well-known golf destinations like Limestone Springs, Goose Pond
Colony, Bent Brook and Lakepoint State Park Resort. Truth is, you and your boys could play here for weeks and never playthe same hole twice.

The South Central Section consisting of Oklahoma, Arkansas and southern Kansas, may be called flyover country by some snobs, but not by the United States Golf Association, which continues to bring a remarkable number of prestigious golf championships to the area.
In the fall of 2008 the USGA conducted the Senior Women’s Amateur at Tulsa Country Club, giving Tulsa the unique distinction of having hosted all of the major USGA championships for women with the exception of the Curtis Cup.
The USGA returns to the Sooner State twice in 2009. First up is the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship July 13-18 at the Jimmie Austin University of Oklahoma Golf Course in Norman.
This will be the first USGA event for the course, which was originally designed by Perry Maxwell and opened in 1951. A 1996 renovation, by Bob Cupp included the addition of complete irrigation for the first time. Additional work on the layout and greens was completed last year.
Jimmie Austin has served as host to the
1997 NCAA Regionals, the 1997 Oklahoma Amateur and the 1998 Big 12 Women’s Championship.
Another Maxwell layout, Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, will be hosting its ninth USGA championship when the 2009 U.S. Amateur is conducted there Aug. 23-30, with qualifying also held across town at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow.
The 2009 Amateur is the ninth USGA championship and second U.S. Amateur (Bob Murphy won in 1965), to be conducted at Southern Hills since it opened in 1936. Previously, the club has hosted three U.S. Opens (1957, 1977, 2001), the 1946 Women’s Amateur, the 1953 Junior Amateur, and the 1987 Women’s Mid-Amateur.
Southern Hills was originally scheduled to host the U.S. Amateur in 2010, but took the place of Congressional Country Club, which is undergoing renovations in preparation to host the U.S. Open in 2011.
Tickets for the 2009 U.S. Amateur are available at www.2009usamateur.com. There is no charge for the Public Links Championship and no gallery ropes either except for holes nine and 18.

Good course management starts with knowing the right distance. The SkyCaddie will tell you the best distance to either lay up in front of, or fly over, and trouble. Our patented IntelliGreen® Technology gives you an eagle’s view of each hole from anywhere on the course. By learning to target the smart zones on a hole, you can start eliminating those 6s, 7s, and 8s from your scorecard. NOTHING ELSE COMES CLOSE.
Created in partnership with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Mississippi Development Authority.

Quick Tips from The prosBetter Golf Indoors
it can be very difficult to find time to get to the golf course to work on your game especially in the off-season. Here are some golf tips you can do in the privacy of your home or office to continue improving when practice time is limited.
Pre-Swing Fundamental: i know you have heard it many times that good golf begins with a good set-up. Most golfers make the error before they start their swing. By improving your basic set-up fundamentals (grip, aim, posture, ball position) you will improve. Get with your local PGA Professional to identify what pre-swing fundamentals you can improve.
Clubface alignment and ball position: Use the tiles on the floor to check clubface alignment, ball position and body alignment. This will train your eyes to see what square looks like.
Grip: Like an artist with a brush the more times you get the club in your hand the more feel and control you will have for your instrument. Practice gripping the club in your finger and trying to get a feel for the weight of the club while sitting on the couch watching televi-sion. The more you get the club in your hands the more natural it will feel. You will be amazed how much this helps!
Putting: Use tiles on the floor to work on your aim and train your eyes to see how square looks with your putter. Place a coin on the carpet and practice rolling the ball over the coin. if room allow use a hallway to practice putts longer than fifteen feet. Speed control is the number one reason for three putts.
Watch the Tour Events: By watching the best players in the world it will help you improve just from watching. Notice how they set-up to the ball, you may not be able to swing like a tour professional, but you should be able to stand to the ball like a tour professional.
Get Creative: Find your own ways to improve indoors and have fun with it. Golf is a lifelong journey to constantly improve. Enjoy the process of becoming the best golfer you can be!
i hope these simple but effective tips help you play better golf without getting to the golf course. Remember it’s the small things done daily that make the biggest difference in your game.

Quick Tips from The prosPoint your way to longer straighter drives
Extension and release are vital to hitting the ball long and straight. By trying to feel that your right arm (for right handed golfers, left arm for left handed golfers) points down your target line this will help in both extending your arms and releasing the club properly. Extending both arms at impact will help increase swing speed, and allowing your right arm to extend and point towards your target helps with releasing the club and swinging down your target line.

Quick Tips from The prosPutt-Chip to Lower Scores
How many of you have hit your two best shots one after another only to miss the green by a few yards. You are now just twenty feet or so from the hole and you end up making a double bogey. This is something that happens to every golfer regardless of your handicap. The problem you are not consistently hitting the ball before you hit the ground. This
mistake is the most common with players that cannot chip the ball resulting in higher scores. i want to give you a few tips on how to improve your technique. i feel there are two ways to set up for a chip shot. The easiest is what i call a putt-chip and the second is a conventional chip. Let me explain the difference.
Grip: You are going to turn your left hand to the left or weaker and your right hand to the right or stronger. The main reason for this is it helps to lessen the amount the club face opens and closes compared to a conventional grip. The result, less distance left or right of the hole.
Stance: You want your stance width to be no wider than a club head width apart mea-sured at your heals. You want to drop your left foot back a club head width or open your stance for right hand golfers or right foot back for left handed golfers.
Torso and Eye Line Position: This is where you will be substantially different than conventional chipping. i encourage you to bend more from your hips and a little from your waist so that you can position your eyes more directly over the ball. This means the ball will be no further than 3 club head lengths away from your right foot. You also want to allow both arms to be bent around 60 degrees but staying close to your body not flaring away from your body. The last and most important information in the article is you want to tilt your torso to the left and try to keep your shoulders level with each other. One of the biggest mistakes in chipping the upper torso gets tilted to the right because you have been told to play the ball back and put your hands forward. The combination of the weaker left hand and the bending of the left arm allows the left shoulder to be lower at address which helps move the bottom of the swing more forward.
Ball and Hand Position: You want to play the ball just inside your right foot and position your hands right out in front of your zipper. This automatically sets your hands in front of the ball. The majority of your weight should be on your left foot.
The Motion: You want to swing the club straight back from the ball straight off the ground. The next biggest mistake in chipping is the club tends to swing too far back to the inside. However the set up changes we have listed will help this tendency not cure it but help. The forward swing should feel as though you are pinching the ball first and brushing the ground right after the contact.
Club Selection: i think you want to learn to use all clubs but getting the ball on the green as quick as you can and letting the ball run the rest of the way to the hole is the best.
i would encourage all of you that have struggled with chipping to try this method. i believe this is the easiest and best way to chip and lower your scores. Please contact me at 918-352-1089 if you have any questions.
