NCAA Division II Playoff s
BLOOMSBURG --Jesse Cooper’s 62-yard interception return broke a 14-14 tie and lifted Bloomsburg University past West Chester University 28-21 in an NCAA Division II second round playoff game. With the score tied at 14-all early in the fourth period, Cooper stepped in front of a Joe Wright pass and ran untouched into the end zone putting the Huskies in front for good. Bloomsburg opened the game’s scoring on its fi rst drive of the game marching 70 yards in 11 plays with Stefan Adams going the fi nal seven yards for the score. West Chester though answered back on its next drive with Wright pushing his way in for a score on a fourth and goal play from the one-yard line. In the second period, both teams had turnovers stop potential scoring drives. Th e Huskies were driving for a go-ahead score when quarterback Dan Latorre was sacked and fumbled the ball with the Golden Rams recovering at their own 18 yard line. Later, West Chester was in Bloomsburg territory when it too fumbled with the Huskies recovering. Bloomsburg fi nally took the lead in the third period when Adams went in from three yards out. However, the Golden Rams needed just six plays to tie the game with Jackson Fagan scoring on a six-yard run with 5:12 left in the third. In the fourth period the Golden Rams started a drive at their own fi ve yard line and had moved down to the Bloomsburg 47. On a third and six play, Wright went back to throw, but Cooper came up and intercepted the pass on the run and went 62-yards for the score. Following a three-out from West Chester, the Huskies marked 77 yards in 11 plays with Latorre hitting Kyle Ream, who was double-covered, with a 28-yard scoring pass for a 28-14 lead. Th e drive ate up nearly six and a half minutes of time leaving the Golden Rams just 3:36 to work with. West Chester, though, wasted little time and needed just 1:37 to go 56 yards with Wright hitting Mike Washington with an 18-yard touchdown pass and making it a one-score game. Bloomsburg recovered the on-side kick attempt and when Latorre hit Ream with a 32-yard completion on a third down play the win was sealed. Latorre fi nished 11 of 15 for 129 yards and one score, while Wright was 20-39 for 262 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

THE GRADUATE: QB Dan Latorre, now in his fourth year as the starter, graduated as a
triple major in the spring and is now in grad school. One of the best players to ever wear a
Husky uniform, Latorre, who was named fi rst team All-PSAC East last year, heads into the
2009 season third all-time in school history in both yards passing and touchdowns and is the
all-time leader in rushing yards by a quarterback.
MR. EVERYTHING:
Latorre is featured in the
latest edition of Bloomsburg: Th e University Magazine.
Th e story, written by Husky
play-by-play commentator
Jim Doyle, details Latorre’s
athletic and academic
accomplishments. In
addition to receiving fi rst-
team All-PSAC honors for
his play in 2008, Latorre earned a 3.78 grade point average while taking 19 credits.
GOING FOR A GRAND: Latorre just doesn’t rely on his arm to lead the Huskies down the
fi eld, but also his legs. His 545 rushing yards last season was a record for a BU quarterback
and with his 191 yards during 2007, he is closing in on 1,000 career rushing yards. After

currently qualify for PSAC individual statistics because he has not played in 75 percent of the Huskies games, but if he did, he would rank fi rst
in rushing yards, fi rst in scoring (12.0 points per game) and second in all-purpose yards (122.0 per game).
With his 165-yard performance at East Stroudsburg, Price entered BU’s top-10 in career rushing yards and currently has 1,942. Price passed

Last year, Price ran for 1,279 yards and seven touchdowns, winning PSAC East Rookie of the Year and receiving fi rst team All-PSAC East
honors.
KENNY!: With his 121-yard eff ort last week against Shippensburg, Kenny Domzalski registered his fourth career 100-yard rushing game. He
posted three during his freshman year, including a 172-yard eff ort in his very fi rst game against Ashland.
With his game-high 86 yards in the win over Mercyhurst, Domzalski went over 1,000 rushing yards in his
career. In his freshman year of 2008, he ran for 878 yards, good for second on the team. So far this season,
Domzalski is second on the Huskies with 558 yards on 109 carries. He now has 1,436 career rushing yards, 506
behind Price for 10th in BU history.

performances to wear down opponents and help gain victories over Ashland, Cal,
Kutztown, C.W. Post and most recently, East Stroudsburg. Against the Warriors, BU
ran a total of 15 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns from Price and Domzalski.

PSAC. In the six weeks since, the Huskies have averaged 31.0 points, 207.2 rushing
yards and 352.7 total yards per contest.
SPREADING IT OUT: Th e Huskies have relied on several players to catch passes
during the 2009 season. BU’s 112 total completions have been spread out among 15
diff erent receivers: seven wide receivers, fi ve running backs and three tight ends. Against Millersville, nine
diff erent players caught passes for the Huskies.
GOING DEEP: Th e Huskies have tried several deep passes each game in 2009, connecting on six passes of over
40 yards. Junior WR Chris Tressler has been the main benefi ciary of those deep balls, recording a 47-yarder
against Cal, a 41-yarder against Meryhurst, another 47-yard pass against Kutztown and a 41-yarder last week against Shippensaburg. Senior

Bloomsburg University Football Game Notes
WEABER GRILLS OPPONENTS: So far in 2009, junior TE Ben Weaber has a career-high 23 catches for 280 yards. Last week against
Shippensburg, Weaber made an incredible leaping 30-yard reception, falling back as he caught it. Against East Stroudsburg, Weaber recorded a
career-high six receptions for 69 yards. Many of his catches included stiff arming defenders and breaking tackles. Earlier in the season, Weaber
made a nice, one-handed grab against Millersville right after snatching a sidearm shovel pass from a scrambling Latorre. For his career, Weaber
has 45 receptions for 541 yards and a touchdown.
HOLDING THE LEAD: Th e fi eld goal by East Stroudsburg in the fi rst quarter three weeks ago marked the fi rst time all year that the Huskies
had trailed in a game. BU would tie the game 6:36 later when Jon Koenig connected on a fi eld goal of his own to tie the game at 3-3. Another
ESU fi eld goal in the second quarter put the Huskies down for just the second time, but would go ahead for good when Latorre found Cory
Stiger for a 29-yard touchdown. In last week’s loss to Shippensburg, the Huskies held the lead until the Red Raiders scored the go-ahead
touchdown and point-after with 46 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. In all, Bloomsburg has trailed for just eight minutes and 11
seconds this season.
NATIONALLY RANKED DEFENSE: Th e Huskies defense has dominated opponents this season, giving up just 11.9 points per game, which
ranks fi rst in the PSAC and is second in all of Division II. BU is also near the top nationally in total yards allowed (274.9 - 22nd in DII; third in
PSAC), rushing yards allowed (100.3 - 24th in DII; third in PSAC), redzone defense (68.0% - tied for 23rd in DII; second in PSAC) and fourth
down defense (15.8% - fi fth in DII; fi rst in PSAC).
In addition, the BU defense averages 3.1 sacks per game (tied for 13th in DII), 7.67 tackles-for-loss per game (tied for 33th in DII), and forces
opposing quarterbacks to post a pass effi ciency rating of just 107.71 (269h in DII).
1ST HALF DOMINANCE: A touchdown by C.W. Post in the fi rst quarter fi ve weeks ago was the fi rst
given up in the fi rst half by Bloomsburg all season. Th e week before at Kutztown, the Golden Bears
fi eld goal in the second quarter was the fi rst points given up by the Huskies in the fi rst half of any game
this year.
KEEPIN’ IT LOW: Th e Huskies have kept opposing off enses at bay, allowing an average of just
11.9 points per game. What is even more impressive is the amount of points BU’s opponents have
scored against other teams. C.W. Post, which is averaging 29.6 points per game against its eight other
opponents, scored only 14 against the Huskies. Cal, which managed only 10 points against BU, has
averaged 38.1 points in other games, including 44 last week against Slippery Rock.

Sophomores Vince Browning and Andre Glover have received more playing time as the year has gone on, combining for 31 tackles, four pass breakups, and two interceptions. Junior Dan Oliver received his fi rst signifi cant playing time against Kutztown, notching four tackles and a pass breakup. He is tied for eighth on the Huskies with 29 tackles and has two pass breakups this year.
POSITIVE RETURNS: Freshman Brandon Real has found success returning kicks in his fi rst season with the Huskies. He ranks second in the PSAC and fi fth in the nation with a 19.0-yard average on 10 punt returns and is 10th in the conference in kickoff returns with a 24.4-yard average. Real had a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown against Millersville and has kickoff returns of 51 (vs. Cheyney) and 54 (vs. Millersville) yards this season. Jesse Cooper has also fl ashed big plays in the return game, returning the opening kickoff s against Ashland and Mercyhurst 42 and 44 yards, respectively. He is averaging 24.3 yards on kickoff returns and has 10 punt returns for 54 yards, including a 28-yard return late in the 4th quarter against Ashland.
JUST FOR KICKS: After going 3-for-3 on extra points against Shippensburg, senior Jon Koenig extended his streak of consecutive made point-after kicks to 89. His streak started against Cheyney in 2007 and extended through 2008 when he connected on 54-of-54 kicks.
Koenig established a new career-long against Kutztown with a 50-yard fi eld goal. Th e kick came at the 11:17 mark of the 4th quarter and put the Huskies up 24-6. For the season he is 5-for-8 on fi eld goals of 40-plus yards this year, including a 49-yarder against East Stroudsburg and a 45-yarder last week against Shippensburg.
In the fi rst week of October, Koenig was honored as one of 13 recipients of the Fred Mitchell Award for the month of September. Th e award recognizes NCAA Division II and Division III place kickers for excellence on the football fi eld and in the community.
KOENIG CLIMBING THE LIST: After his three extra points against the Red Raiders, Koenig moved into second place all-time in PSAC history in career PATs made with 171. He entered his fi nal season with 146, 33 behind all-time leader Alex Walsh (179) of West Chester. Koenig now sits eight behind West Chester’s Alex Walsh, who fi nished his career with 179.
With his two fi eld goals against Shippensburg, Koenig is now tied with Bill Beall (1992-95) and Mark Weiss (1988-91) for the most fi eld goals made in BU history with 29. With nine fi eld goals this season he is tied for second all-time in a single season with Weiss, who also had nine in 1989. Chris Mingrone had 10 in 1986. Koenig also has the school record for most 40-plus yard fi eld goals in a season with fi ve and in a career with eight.
THE FRESHMEN: Kicker Jared Shannon has been one of a few true freshman getting playing time for the Huskies in 2009. He handles BU’s kickoff s and the Huskies rank fi rst in the PSAC in kickoff average at 62.5 yards, and Shannon has a PSAC-high seven touchbacks. In other words, he routinely makes the returner fi eld the kick around their own seven-yard line. Given additional duties against C.W. Post, Shannon scored the fi rst points of his career, going 4-for-4 on extra points.
In addition to his return duties, TB Brandon Real saw his fi rst collegiate action earlier this year against Cal, carrying the ball eight times for 19 yards, including a 12-yard run on the Huskies fi rst scoring drive early in the 2nd quarter. Real has 18 carries for 46 yards on the year. WR Kyle Fisher has played in four games this year for BU, making his mark on special teams. Fisher has four tackles this season, including two against Cal on kick coverage, and returned a kickoff 33 yards against Kutztown. Fisher saw his fi rst action on off ense against Cheyney, catching a swing pass for nine yards and losing one yard on a reverse.
FROM THE ARCHIVES: Bloomsburg has now won at least eight games for the 17th time in school history, covering 112 seasons, and has done it for the 11th time under Danny Hale.
Th e Huskies are currently enjoying the fourth best defensive start to a year since 1971, allowing only 107 points so far. Th e three best seasons are 1997 with 90; 2005 with 95; and 1985 with 103.
Th e Huskies have not won at West Chester since a 35-7 victory in 2000, following wins there under Hale in 1994 and 1996. Prior to his tenure at Bloomsburg, the only two wins the Huskies had ever had on the road over the Golden Rams were in 1978 and 1984.
A FAMILY AFFAIR: Huskies sophomore FB Matt Cox comes from a family of fullbacks. His father, Lawrence, played at Temple from 1979-82; his older brother Mike played collegiately at Georgia Tech from 2004-07 and is currently in his second year with the Kansas City Chiefs; and younger brother Lucas is a junior at Georgia Tech.
Coincidentally, current BU assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, Paul Darragh, began his playing career at Temple during
Lawrence’s fi nal year.

August 27, 2009
BLOOMSBURG-Senior running back Stefan Adams ran for 104
yards, including a key 46-yard run in the fourth quarter, as Blooms-
burg University defeated Ashland 10-7 in a battle between two na-
tionally ranked football teams on Th ursday night at Redman Stadium.
Th e 13th-ranked Huskies (1-0) got on the board fi rst with a
28-yard fi eld goal by senior Jon Koenig at the 11:11 mark in the fi rst
quarter. Th e kick came after a nine-play, 29-yard drive that was set up
by a 42 yard kickoff return by senior cornerback Jesse Cooper.
After 15th-ranked Ashland’s (0-1) fi rst drive stalled at the
Bloomsburg 34, the Eagles tried some trickery when punter Derek
Reidel’s fourth-down pass was intercepted by sophomore cornerback
Oscar Rivera. Th e Huskies then started an eight-play, 85-yard drive
that ended when senior quarterback Dan Latorre bolted into the
endzone from eight yards out to put Bloomsburg up 10-0.
Th e Huskies defense controlled Ashland for most of the game,
forcing two fumbles, two punts and stopping the Eagles four times on
fourth down plays through nearly three quarters of play. Seniors Jus-
tin Presley and Anthony Smith led a Bloomsburg goal line stand late
in the second quarter, coming up with three stops inside the Husky
one yard line.
Th e Eagles closed the Bloomsburg advantage to three late in the
third when Carlin Isles scored from 50 yards out to make the score
10-7. However, the Husky defense stifl ed Ashland’s fourth quarter
drives, registering three sacks and forcing Billy Cundiff into 4-of-11
passing for just 24 yards.

eight, including three sacks. Smith, senior Alphonso Nathan, and
juniors Marcus Zimmerman and Todd Givler were also able to get
to Cundiff , combining for three sacks.

Both teams are now tied for the PSAC East lead with one game to play. Th e Huskies extended that lead to 21-7 early in the second quarter when Domzalski ran a career-long 77 yards for a score on the fi rst play of the drive with 10:15 to go in the second period. Shippensburg, though, trimmed the lead 21-13 by halftime with a pair of fi eld goals from Ford of 19-and 38-yards. In the third period, the Huskies took the second half kickoff and got a 39-yard fi eld goal from Jon Koenig to extend its lead to 24-13 with 10:15 to play in the quarter. Bloomsburg later had a chance to extend the lead, but a 40-yard fi eld goal from Koenig went wide left. Th e Red Raiders answered later in the period when Mike Frenette scored on a 55-yard run and then converted a two-point conversion to pull within three at 24-21 with 45 seconds to go in the third. On Bloomsburg’s ensuing drive the Huskies moved to the Shippensburg seven yard line with the help of a 41-yard pass from Latorre to Chris Tressler. Th e Shippensburg defense stiff ened, though, and forced the Huskies to settle for a 24-yard fi eld goal from Koenig with 12:30 to go in the game setting up Shippensburg’s late game heroics.
