Comments: We have had a few issues with neighbors, which the apartment management did not take care of in an acceptable fashion. However, since these issues are because of one neighbor and the rest of the complex seems peaceful and nice I do recommend this apartment complex. It is close to grocery stores and SouthPoint [Mall]. It is right off I-40, but secluded in an executive business park. There is a nice 2 mile trail to walk/run around. 1520 Magnolia can be pricey but normally have specials that reduce the original price substantially. Apartment Complex Crime Statistics

Comments: Compared to alexan place, the bldgs are older so they don't have things like digital airconditioner. they look a bit older too. on the other hand, i have asked them successfully to replace the kitchen and bathroom vinyls. they are usually pretty open about any modifications you need. This is a great place to live! There are many professional students/graduate students and families. The layout of the apartments is very nice, and the management is very responsive. Noise level depends on your neighbors. But generally very quiet. Lots of other Duke, and especially law, students live here which is nice! The apartment complex in general is very nice (great units, very friendly and helpful staff). However, we experienced some problems w/ crime. Many cars were broken into in the parking lot, and our particular apartment was robbed (this was partly our fault, as my roommate accidentally left her window unlocked, but still disturbing). The complex isn't gated in, which I think might be a part of the problem. All in all, I think there are safer places to live. Specially good for coming with family. Comments: Apartments seem new. Spacious bath in the one bedroom. Nice amenities (2 pool, 2 workout facilities). Got a better deal on my rent than what was listed on-line. The floors and ceilings are very poorly insulated--I can hear my upstairs neighbor walk (sounds like stomping), play music, and even pee…. lots of Duke students live here and I feel that the complex is pretty safe. Very close and convenient to Duke and the rest of Durham and nearby shopping. I love Alexan Place. The apartments are beautiful, the complex is very well-maintained, and the pools are a definite perk. The only thing I do not like is that they try to get you to renew as early as January (6 months in advanced) …Big rooms, screened-in balconies, 2 pools, 2 gyms. Cheaper than the Lofts and apparently quieter, too, from what I've heard. I highly recommend Alexan Place. Parking in certain areas is very tough after 7 or 8 pm. The office hours aren't all that convenient for students. The grill equipment almost never has tools. The gym's TV remote is often gone. The printer in the business center has NEVER worked. However, those are all of my complaints -- by and large I'm pretty happy with Alexan Place. Maintenance requests are typically responded to very promptly. Comments:

The apartment is decent and was clean when we arrived. The complex is making a few upgrades, so I think they'll get better. Not on a bus line, so commute to campus is about a 40min walk or a 10-15min hilly walk. Living at Anderson Street was not bad. My only complaint is that my room was unreasonably cold during the winter. I think our apartment had a vent problem because our electricity was as high as almost $150 during winter although my roommate and I would spend MOST of our time at school- including weekends. We had the best neighbors though. Our whole building was full of fun, mature grad students from Duke and UNC and young working professionals. The rent is cheap, you donʼt pay for water…our two bedroom with a den was $690. Most people in our apartment have dogs. Anderson Street has a reputation for being unsafe in the past. During my time there, nothing of that sort happened. I would, however, advise that you use your own discretion concerning safety at the apartment. Safe rides goes there too and most people live in pairs or with their family. Thanks. Comments: My car was broken in, once (because I put my ipod and gps in the car). I have just renewed my lease. It is definitely not the best apartment complex…But if you compare everything of it with other complexes, it's the best i can get for their current rent price. What I liked most is the hospitality of the staffs, they are so nice. Great location -- it's on the TTA 412/413 Bus line (less than 15 minutes to Duke, 20 minutes to UNC), near shopping and a movie theater. It's decently quiet. Management has been quick to respond to any problems we've had. Beech Lake is located in a great location. The apartments are a little older, but are very spacious and in a safe neighborhood. Parking is not a problem and areas are well lit. The management is getting better and is responsive if you hound them. The complex is surprisingly quiet and has nice walking trails. The gym leaves something to be desired, but is operational. This complex is slowly getting better as it just came under new management. The rent also includes water and a valet trash service. Good price for what you get and not bad for a first apartment. Beech Lake offers discounts for Duke employees. The rate dropped for this coming year. I believe it is a 3% discount for this coming year. Beech Lake is a very good value. I think it compares favorably to Pinnacle Ridge while being less expensive. The staff has been very friendly and understanding with us while we've lived here. My only real complaint about the complex would be a few very loud dogs. If you're on a budget or looking to save money, then I think this is a good option. Comments: The best thing is the ability to walk to campus since the graduate student parking situation is awful. The place is overpriced and the undergrads are annoying but the apartments are nicer and larger than most. Plus, I love not having to commute in a car. The apartments near the pool and leasing office are very noisy during some nights due to long parties, but the apartments that are far from the pool area are very quiet. In general, the Belmont is a convenient place to live; very close to Duke West campus, safe, nice. management is hands-off at best, incompetent at worst. Coming in, the carpet was badly stained and the vents were filled with mold. The carpet is still dirty. Block with your friends by finding people to will you apartments. The Belmont is a great place to live because of the other seniors that live here. Management is slow with maintenance requests and lax with keeping property in good condition. Belmont is a very nice place to live. It is in walking distance to campus, apartments are in great conditions. The complex is one of the best places to live in the area…Although gated, the gates do not work most of the time. Expensive; but relatively safe and in a very comfortable location. Comments: Noisy only at certain times. Campus Oaks is managed by three different owner/realtors. Griffin manages the one I live in and has no control over the tenants in the rentals owned by other realtors. Some of the renter…tend to be more problematic than the students who live here. For example, for the past three years, I have complained about the renters (subsidized) directly below me and my concerns about their noise and random house guests that flood in and out of their apartment at all hours of the day and night fall on deaf ears. The repairs that need to be made might take over 1 month for Griffin to fix. Due to the close proximity to campus and the cheap rent, I stay here; however, this place is only 'okay' due to the non-student tenants that are disruptive and quite frankly, make this apartment complex less safe (due to some questionable activity that is going on in their apartments). I am looking forward to leaving after 5 years (finally graduating). Comments: The management would use the spare key and go into your apartment without any prior notice or at emergency conditions. If your apartment is often unoccupied on weekdays, just be careful. And the stairways and hallways are filthy. Cost a lot for heating during the winter. Maintenance is also very slow in responding. There have been numerous break-ins in the apartments on the ground floor. Life in the Campus Walk Apartments has been very good for my family. The rents increase once in 6 months and that is not at all good They charge a lot of rent but the amenities provided is poor. Management is not great but as long as you have minor issues you can sort it out. Sometimes, the apt complex gets very noisy. The main problem with the apts are that they are very old and electricity bills are exorbitant, especially in winter due to poor insulation capacity of the walls. The management doesn't seem to care much. If you wish to stay closer to Duke and not too much worried about other amenities, I recommend it or else check out other places which are better! It is unsafe to walk outside at night, there have been several break-ins. But it is really close to campus!!! Comments: I highly recommend Deerfield. It's in the forest so it's a nice retreat. Mostly families and grad students. I feel extremely safe here. Great bang for your buck. Super close to West Campus. I have liked living here. It is close to campus, and quiet. Very close to the Duke Forest trails. If you decide to live on the first or second floor, just know that you'll be able to hear the neighbor above you walking around (although it'll sound like they're stomping around). That's the only annoying thing about this complex. Other than that, I have no complaints. I love living at Deerfield. Duke Forest trails can be accessed right by the apartment. It is a 2 mile bike ride to Duke's West Campus (15 minutes to Law School, Pub Pol School, etc). I biked almost every day of the school year. it's also right next to the best road biking routes in the area. The bus (DATA) only comes once an hour, but it will take you to Duke hospital, Duke Gardens (central campus) and downtown. It is close to Kroger Grocery store and 15-501 to go to Chapel Hill. There are no restaurants or stores in walking distance - it's definitely residential, but the forest and biking make it a great place to live. Deerfield is a great place to live. The screened-in porches are great during the summer and the tennis courts and pool are always kept in excellent condition. Hooks up to trails in the Duke Forest, which are great for running or dog/walking, and have never had any problems with the management in terms of repairs. Short bike ride to campus (about 15 min) and also easy access to campus on the No. 6 DATA bus. Comments: This apartment complex is cheap and inexpensive, and it shows up in the apartment. Things in the apartments frequently break and when it breaks it takes a while for the apartment complex to fix the problem. The dishwasher broke; the stove broke, the sink broke, the garbage disposal broke and the washing machine broke. The biggest problem is that the electricity pops on and off and it took about 4 months for the apartment complex fix it. Also, the managers of the housing complex don't care about you or your problems when you come to them. Lastly, they have recycling bins, but don't every empty them. Duke Manor is totally underrated. I have lived here for three years, in three separate apartments, without incident. I get my rent at a great rate, a washer/dryer in my apartment, and a quick walk to campus. Comments: Erwin Square is for undergrads who like to party frequently The property manager for our complex, is increasingly difficult and attempting to hinder a normal college student's lifestyle by imposing rules and fines and restrictions not included in our lease. We are being coddled and it is not an appropriate relationship for a landlord and her renters. I enjoy living at Erwin Square. I find it spacious and convenient. Comments: The complex and management are great! We pay $1050 for a 3 bedroom in excellent condition. We do plan to move rather than renew our lease because there is a cell tower basically on the edge of our complex (we see it out the window, most apts can't see it). There is a power substation on the opposite side. Those are the only drawbacks, other than that it's great. Comments: The only problem is that the bus (DATA) only comes to The Forest every hour. The only problem with this apartment complex is that the cell phone coverage is not good in this area at all. I definitely recommend my complex for any outdoorsy individuals who want easy access to great running trails and non-congested roads (great for cycling). It's also ideal for anyone who wants to be removed from the noise and traffic of the shopping center/auto mall district. Comments: This is a great complex, and we have not had any problems with noise or management. It's a very short drive to campus (it usually takes me 10 minutes from my door to a parking space), and it seems very safe. Glenbrook is a nice place. The location is good (<5mins driving to Target/Walmart/I-40, ~10mins driving to Duke). The environment is very quiet (for the townhouses) and clean. The management is responsive. The only drawback is that the apartments are right in the middle of Garrett Rd, which does not have any sidewalk or bike lane, so driving is the only way to get access to the houses. But I guess that's also what keeps the place safe. Good place to live, especially for couples or families with kids. It's quiet, close to restaurants and shopping, safe, and 7 minutes from West Campus. Not many amenities (just a playground), but the benefit is that rent is fairly low for such large (1150 sq. ft.), new (built in 2005), clean apartments. new clean apartments and very affordable rent…would definitely recommend to other students. Although the house is little bit far away from the campus, it's actually quite convenient to commute to school because the TTA Bus 412/413 has a stop at Duke Hospital and another stop at Garrett Rd and Old Chapel Hill Rd, which is 5 minutes' walk from the house. The down-side of the housing community is that there is no gym. Comments: Very convenient…ten minute walk to campus, within the safe-ride radius, and the shuttle bus is also on the corner. The apartment is relatively cheap compared to other (new) apartments in the neighborhood. It is near the school, around 20-minute walk, there is a Lasalle Loop Bus from Monday to Friday (it could have been helpful if this extends until Saturday since there are many students availing of this bus and many of them are going to school even on Saturday). The management is quick in their reply to minor repairs, as in the same day, they would fix it. However, since the building is a bit old, you can hear the footsteps on the second floor (I am staying in the ground floor)and even the snoozing neighbor at the other door (funny!). Also, during winter, you have to pay a lot for the gas I suppose because of the structure (paid around $85 per month for gas alone). There is no washing machine inside the apartment, so you have to go out to the next building, just beside my apartment. Over all if you are looking for a cheap (want to save) apartment near the school, this is recommended. But if you have a family with kids, I do not recommend this because it is so open for anyone, no fence around. In short, security is a bit a problem if you are conscious of it. My apartment served by DATA buses (no. 11 and no 6) and LaSalle Loop (to West Campus and from West Campus). Different with for example Holly Hills apartment, which only served with LaSalle Loop FROM west campus (I mean you must go to S Lasalle street if you want to get LaSalle Loop bus). the only complaint is that laundry is not located in the every block. On top of that i live on the 2nd floor of a block that doesn't have the washers/dryers. Comments: I would not recommend Mission University Pines to anyone, I've had my car broken into twice since I moved here in August (8 months) 35 days before my lease expired, I received a note posted on my door. It stated that unless I signed a new lease with Mission University, my lease would automatically convert to a month-to-month basis. In that case, my rent would increase from $589 to $842. The end of the letter included the following sentence: 'As a reminder, a 60-day notice to vacate is required even at the termination of your lease agreement.' In other words, Mission University was going to charge me at the month-to-month rate, even though I was going to move out at the end of my lease. As of the moment, they are charging me an additional $729 for 25 days after I move out!!...In my conversations with the property manager and the regional manager, I have been consistently made fun off, been called ridiculous and otherwise intimidated. Lots of walking paths, beautiful landscaping. I had a first level corner apartment next to the pond and fountain. The water was very soothing. 2 pools and lots of sports courts. It is worth the longer commute to Duke (3 miles). My apartment was only $725/mo and I got 2 bed/2 bath and 1022 sq. ft. to roam plus a 9'x9' patio overlooking the water. Great Complex! This place has the greatest deal for the money on one bedroom apartments in the area. Comments: The place is nice and pretty cheap. However with the cheapness comes dated appliances, squeaky floors, and water pipes that sing. They're acceptable with the cheap rent and ease of commute. Lenox East townhomes is a great complex to live. It is very quiet and I feel safe. I have not had any problems with the rental company and every request I have made has been answered quickly. Our townhome has a lot of room ~ 1200 sq. feet plus an attic and patio storage for additional storage needs. The townhome seems relatively well insulated with power running only about $70-100 per month. This complex does not have a gym or pool but you get a great price! Overall, I would recommend it to anyone. only issue is that lenox does not have a management office at the complex; you have to go see them in person or call with issues, and there is nowhere for packages to be delivered if you're not at home. Lenox is clean, but no frills apartment living. It's a great place for people who want to save money without sacrificing on apartment size, location or safety. Comments: Expensive and probably not worth the price, but within walking distance to campus, safe, and comfortable. Great amenities such as movie theater, computer kiosks and study rooms, printer/fax, movie theater, gym. The two resort style pools are beautiful, and have barbecues and nice patio areas. Also an events calendar with special events, for example, showing movies in the theater on Friday nights, wine tastings, mimosa brunches, cooking demonstrations, and more. Would definitely recommend living at the Lofts. The lofts at lakeview is horrible. It is incredibly noisy and extremely dirty. It is not a well run building. There's been a rise in number of undergraduates in the Lofts, so it gets pretty loud at times in the common area and at the pool. Prior to this, apartments facing the pool were the most quiet. There was also a change in management (for the worse--the 'new' manager had been the manager at the Belmont, if that's any indication), but this new manager left recently, so hopefully things will get better. Great location for quick fast food in walking distance: Chipotle, Mediterra Grill, Green Tango, Noodle, and Dunkin Donuts. Comments: I would definitely recommend murchison to grad/professional students. It's safe, quiet, and a great neighborhood. The heating bills can get high, but the rent is very reasonable for what you get. Ask about 'rent specials' because if there are vacancies, Trinity will offer special rates when you first rent. Also, ask for a unit with a dishwasher as they don't all have them. I have had a great experience with Trinity Properties and the Murchison Apartments. The complex is quiet with lots of grad students. Rent is very, very reasonable. Maintenance can be kind of slow, you sometimes have to call a couple of times, and they don't always fix it right the first time. Comments: North Pointe is a great deal: huge rooms, quiet, and pretty good management. The only downside, especially for undergrads like myself, is distance from campus. But, especially for grad. students who have a car, I would highly recommend North Pointe. Can't believe more undergrads don't live here. Mostly grad and professional students, but I believe it's the best off campus housing option. Although some people may think it's too far away, after experiencing this, it is definitely not the case. Provided you with the removal from stressful campus life and other students you need at the end of the day. I feel as though, compared to my peers, I live in a relatively cheaper apartment [in terms of price]. The budget this year only allows $650 for rent plus utilities. That is my rent alone. My utilities usually border around $90. I think it is very evident that the school's budget for rent/utilities is not an accurate reflection of the reality for many students. The location is convenient to campus but inconvenient to everything else in Durham (e.g. Target, Southpoint Mall, Barnes & Noble). The location is only good if you like Ninth Street A LOT because that's about the only thing we're close to. In addition, the neighborhood outside of our complex is not 100% safe and is not a pleasant sight each day I return home. Finally, the management has not been helpful because they've taken away the recycle bin and are not always quick at fixing things. Although this apartment complex is not in the 'safest' neighborhood, I feel safe within the gated community. There is nowhere to run or exercise outdoors immediately outside of the complex. Office manager is a bit stuck-up like he owns the place. Supposedly located in a high crime area, but never have had a problem. Gate is usually broken. Apt pays for your cable bill (digital/DVR is extra). Nice set ups, my one bedroom is a bit cramped. Rent is a bit high, but its very convenient in terms of location (school, shopping, etc). They bump up the rent about 20 bucks a year. Its a tolerable not too low or too high kind of place. I love North Pointe Commons…However, I know other students who like an apartment complex that has more students, and ours is mostly filled with families and graduate students. Other students do not like North Pointe Commons because it is not close to Chapel Hill or Target/Walmart. Also, you HAVE to notify them in writing 60 days before you move out that you are moving out or else they will charge you. The complex has been a great place to live over the last 4 years. The major complaint I have is over the admittance of a certain 'family' into the complex.

Comments: The apartment complex is great. Its really quiet and conveniently located. The rooms are decent size and bright. The real major downfall is the absolutely AWFUL management. As long as you don't need them, you'll be fine. They are unhelpful, unprofessional and really inept. Frequent incorrect rent charges, water issues, faulty appliances have been amongst the many problems. The rent is too expensive. It's increased every year. The manager at this apartment is really rude. I would suggest an apartment complex somewhere that is a little less developed if you enjoy more quiet time. However, if you are looking for a convenient place to live with excellent management then the Parc is a good choice. Easy access to Duke, running trails, and basic needs shopping (groceries, supplies, etc). Feel quite safe. Management has always responded promptly to requests. This is a wonderful complex with a nice mix of residents, many of whom are Duke students in a variety of graduate programs. The apartments are well maintained and include spacious balconies. The service is excellent. Maintenance requests are handled within 24 hours. The complex is hidden away (and gated) but is close to everything. I highly recommend it. My first year living here there was an issue with some flooding that was handled moderately well by the complex management. I chose to continue living in the same unit another year and had no issues with any recurring flooding. The complex is well kept and in a GREAT location. I would recommend living here. Comments: my only complaint about the complex buildings (true for several other renters I have spoken with) is that the insulation is very poor and it is impossible to heat the bedrooms in the apartments to a comfortable temperature (for those of us who like warm homes), no matter how much you run up the electric bill. If you rent at the Pinnacle Rigde, make sure you get a third floor unit. The roofs/floors are very thin and you can hear people walking on top (but no talking). Other than that, the place is really nice and safe. Pinnacle Ridge is a great place to live. Everyone in the main office is extremely helpful, and I plan to renew my lease this year. I am surrounded by other graduate students which is great. Pinnacle Ridge is a bit far from campus. But it is relatively cheap, has a pool and a gym, tennis and squash courts. It is also gated which is a plus, and management is responsive to any necessary fix-ups in the apartment. Appliances are a bit out-dated however. The apartment complex is really great. 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartments are really spacious. The management is there even during the weekends and are always quick to respond with any concern. They helped me with all the details of subleasing a summer apartment from another resident even though they didn't have to since the other resident's contract had not expired. They went so far as to paint the walls and make all the cleaning as if it was a complete transfer. They are very friendly and professional. One more thing to keep in mind is that we have never had an unreasonable electricity bill in Pinnacle Ridge. In Campus Walk, your electricity can go up to $200 per month during the winter. The most we have ever paid in Pinnacle Ridge is $80. So even through the rent in Pinnacle Ridge is higher, it is largely compensated by the difference in the electricity bills you would be getting. They have special rates for Duke students as well. The security gate to the complex was broken for over 6 months of the rental time. Management was very slow to respond. The property manager, Angela Buttler, is fantastic! Very professional, and concerned about individuals. She has taken great efforts to get to know my family.

Pinnacle Ride continued Management is generally responsive, but isn't very good at resolving problems. I had an animal problem and maintenance would come look around but never did anything to fix it, even when the animals were scratching their way into my apartment! Same issue with a dripping faucet - it stops dripping if you turn it super tight (so tight that I have to use two hands to turn it on) but they won't fix it so that it doesn't drip when you turn it normally. This is usually a quiet neighborhood but that depends on who your neighbors are. Management is very unhelpful concerning noise complaints - they tell you to call the police if your neighbors are being loud. Pinnacle RIdge is a great place to live with fantastic amenities including a great gym and pool area (also has a squash court). The staff is great about fixing repairs promptly and the rent is very reasonable. It is overpriced and they keep raising the rent through steal (+8 a month for garbage) Floorplans are great. Spacious apartments, lots of closet/storage space, washer and dryer included. I love my apartment at Pinnacle Ridge and will live here for the duration of my time. The management has been extremely responsive and helpful. The complex has a pool and gym like most places in Durham, but all the trees make me feel like I'm coming home to a resort. Plus there are many graduate students who live here, so I feel very safe. Front office staff is wonderful and maintenance responds quickly

Comments: those apartments are too old, so many slots on the doors, windows, if i use air condition for summer or winter, my electricity bill will shoot to $200 per month. also, this apartment is not in a safe area. so many students were robbed and hurt in this community as i know. not a choice for students if you can drive The only drawback of this apartment is the lack of washer/dryer within the apartments. But the central laundry facility is just across the street and the property management recently installed a combination lock to that facility to make it safer. Another issue I have had is that there is no recycle bin at Poplar west. So I have to go over to the campus walk bin or elsewhere to drop off stuff for recycling. Other than that, I have been very happy with the apartment and the management. The laundry room is dirty. I wish they had dishwashers in the one room apt also serious bug problem (cockroaches, spiders, millepede), unclean environment, didn't feel safe because of several break-ins occurred in the complex throughout the year, managers were not nice... I wouldn't recommend it. I live in an Efficiency in Poplar West. Its a quiet place and beautifully located but at the same time its unsafe. The studio has no exhaust in the kitchen, the door locks are rusty and there is no washing room. The space is really huge for a single person which is good..rest all facilities are adequate. If someone is looking for peace of mind and no roomie hassles its a good option Houses are pretty old and look old inside; there's no home appliances as in other places just a little more expensive (no microwave, no washer, no dryer, no dishwasher); laundry available in the complex is awful. Since the house is old, from time to time we need some repair (basically, water infiltrating in the walls when there's some rain); whenever they go there to do the repairs they leave the house really dirty. The neighborhood has a feeling of not being very well taken care of, but the neighbors are also to blame (things left outside their houses). Whenever it rains, a 'pond' is formed in our doorstep and we can only leave/enter the house either by stepping on the mud or getting the feet all wet. If it's a light rain in winter, it freezes overnight and we can slip and fall if we walk through it.We already complained about it a year ago, but nothing was done. In sum, I think paying extra $100-$200 somewhere else is really worth the money.

Poplar West continued The trinity property doesn't take care of cleaning and lighting in the surroundings of apartment. We hear many robbery and larceny cases in the apartments in campus walk and poplar west. I do not feel safe at all. There is no regular cleaning or changing filters facility provided by the property. Comments: You need a car or a bus to go to school easy walk to hospital, hospital bus also picks up right in front. very convenient for med students It has been less than a year, but so far living in Station Nine has been alright. The proximity to 9th St. and campus is great. Also, the parking garage is a nice perk. Maintenance has been quick and the apartment is pretty new. There is a railroad next to the building, and in the night, several trains pass and all of them make loud horns, so it awakes us every night. Management barely responds to any of the repair requests up to now. Management is very responsive to requests. Business students tend to get loud in the pool area around 3am, that is the most annoying aspect. Feel very safe in the apartment complex. Facilities are all excellent. Mgmt is incompetent Check your lease over carefully, they have a tendency to 'accidentally' put the wrong info down. Way overpriced. Wonderful student living! Comments: Where I live isn't quite unsafe, but its not the safest for sure. Having looked around and been in two place so far, I think it is nearly impossible to 1) live in a safe place in durham, 2) that is near Duke 3) AND affordable. Durham has safety issues, especially for grad students and new post-docs on starting wages. I really wish Duke would have done more over the years to invest in Durham as a city. I think there is so much lost potential and I would caution people moving to the area. University Apartments is very convenient for getting to Duke without a car. Condition 3.83 Yes: 23 Landlord/Property Manager 3.75 No: 1 Noise 3.04 Safety 3.50 Comments: Having looked around a lot for apartments in Durham, I think that the quality in WV Phase 2 is the best in Durham, and you pay for it. WV is quite pricey by Durham standards. The amenities (fitness center, pool, attentive staff) are really delightful. It is on the edge of downtown, so its in a bit of a gritty neighborhood, but crime seems to be low within West Village itself. West Village is a formidable apartment complex with all possible amenities, such as Swiming Pool, Billiard Room, Fitness Room, Business Center with computers and free internet. The rent is a little bit higher than average, but in return you got great lofts in a nice environment, two blocks south of Brightleaf Square. Very pet-friendly. west village is costly, but the security is top notch. it is gated with access codes into buildings. plus it is in a great location - close to brightleaf square and downtown. it is not quite up to lakeview lofts in terms of security and amenities, but it is also cheaper and has more of an urban feel. Depending on the unit rented, some maintenance issues may arise. They are handled promptly, but should be expected. The only thing about West Village is that in the Phase 1 apartments, the walls between bedrooms do not go all the way to the ceiling, so that can be awkward. I'd rec Phase 2 for people sharing. West Village has been a great experience because it has a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate students, young professionals, and families. It is also a fantastic place to live if you have a pet because they foster the pet community very well. West Village is an excellent place for graduate and professional students to live. They are also very pet-friendly for those with furry/feathered friends. West Village generally is great, but I'd recommend the new 'Old Cigarette Factory' over the other buildings.

Condition 4.00 Yes: 19 Landlord/Property Manager 3.95 No: 0 Noise 3.89 Safety 3.89 Comments: The management at Woodstone is extremely professional, and the office staff knows tenants by name. When I had a problem with a toilet, it was fixed within 2 hours. The complex is extremely quiet (great for studying)--and many tenants are senior citizens. The complex has a clubhouse that can be rented out for social events--but otherwise this is not a complex that would be welcoming to partiers. The complex is not particularly well-suited for children--the pool is a lap pool designed for adults and there is no playground area. The complex is part of the Croisdaile Farm Community, which provides access to running trails and a small park. Woodstone's wonderful - security monitoring and water's included in the rent, and they respond incredibly quickly when you tell them about any problems (leaky faucet, broken dishwasher, etc.) There's a washer and dryer in every apartment - not just a connection - so you don't have to deal with going to a laundry room. It's so quiet I sometimes wonder if there's anyone else here - not at all like my previous apartment complex. The area's got a lot of wildlife too - it's interesting to see a group of 10+ deer or the herd of cows grazing as you drive home from work. I would give this place a 15 on a 1-10 scale. Best apartment complex to live in in Durham or the surrounding area. My wife works in Greensboro and we'd like to find something in between, but we cannot find anything that even comes close to Woodstone's quality. I would highly recommend Woodstone apartments to any student who is considering moving to an apartment complex around 5 miles to campus. The place is beautiful, very safe, very quiet and the landlords are extremely cooperative. Woodstone at Croasdaile Apartments is the best place to live in Durham. This is a wonderful community - you won't find a better apartment complex in Durham! The Property Manager is friendly, accessible and knows every resident by name.

Woodstone at Croasdaile Farms continued This is one of the best apartment complexes I have seen and lived in. It is slightly more expensive than apartments near Duke campus, but I think it is cheaper than Belmont. The apartments are quite new, set amidst wonderful lush green farms and lakes where you can have deers and rabbits as your occasional visitors! The only sound you can hear is that of the hundreds of birds chirping! The management is very responsive and maintenance calls are quickly attended to. You feel like living amidst a big family! We even have 2 tennis courts, a gym and a pool. Awesome place. I feel extremely safe here and have not heard of any security concerns since the past one year that I have been living here. I highly recommend this place. The apartments are quite new, bright and airy with nice balconies. (Small) pets are allowed, and there are trails and parks nearby that are good for walking dogs, jogging, or biking. Residents are mostly retirees and professional students. Maintenance requests have been handled promptly, and the pool is very nice. My primary reason for moving from my last apartment, and for moving here, was security. Historically, this has been a safe neighborhood, and the apartments are equiped with fire sprinklers and (optional) burglar alarms, which is good for ones peace of mind. This is my favorite apartment I have ever lived in. It is a good size and in excellent condition--the carpets were replaced just before I moved in and it was freshly-painted and clean. There is a ton of storage--lots of kitchen cabinets, big pantry, big closet, shelves in laundry room. Parking has never been an issue. All maintenance requests have been completed within 24 hours. The property manager is friendly and responsive to all of my needs. The community is very quiet and I have always felt safe. There are great walking trails and a nice neighborhood/rural setting.
