Welcome New Members

Presidents Letter

The Genealogical Society of Siskiyou count has lost a very special member. The Society is dedicating this editionof the Heir-Lines to the Memory of June Severns. She has been a member for many years and will be missed by many. She was very proud of her heritage and loved to talk about her family.

October being Family History Month is a very busy time for the Center. The recognition of the research of ourfamily histories nationally is a great inspiration for us to work on breaking down some of those brick walls wehave in our lines.

The Society is participating in the celebration, starting out with a seminar on October 3rd. It was well attendedand all came away learning something new. Thanks to Patricia Healy and Jennifer Bryan for giving three verygood classes. Those of you who were unable to make it missed some very good hands on information. TheResearch Center is also offering free research time for non-members, there has been a good response. This isalso a good time to talk to your neighbor, hair dresser, the receptionist, clerk at the store, and others to get startworking on their Family History.

The Research Center is very active when it is open. The Public is learning that we are here and able to help withtheir research. Opening on the first and third Wednesday of the month has been a good move. People werewaiting when the Center opened last Wednesday. Would like to thank the volunteers for giving their time, everyone has something to offer.

Our Web Site is a work in progress, so keep your eye on what is new. The activity for new research is pickingup with people going to the web site. Donna is working on getting new information on the site. She is startingto put the indexes to the obituaries in. Speaking of the obituaries the new paper clippings project is coming alongat a fast pace, we are up almost to the nineteen nineties. Good job!

There is several new research materials added to our shelves. The 1949 Yreka City Directory, four books weredonated by Hattie Caldwell Davis on Haywood County, North Carolina. These books not only give many familyhistories, but the way they lived in the Smoky Mountains. Good Reading! Two members are working on gettingthe Marriages from the Little Shasta Church.. If you have any books that you are not actively using think a boutdonating to the research center. Happy Researching Glenda Doughman, President

fmSometimes you see a headstone and you know form the rich detail that theperson who put that stone up was a seriously hard-core genealogist. Well,Betsy Mills, ARFenWeb State Coordinator for the USGenWeb Project (alsothe County Coordinator for the Nevada County County ARGenWeb), put up astone for her parents that must be at the top of the list as a true genealogist’sproject. Her mother was active in several lineage societies and left instructionsfor Betsy to include those emblems and pedigree chart as well. Here arephotos of the front and back of the stone. It’s in New DeAnn Cemetery atPrescott, Arkansas.

People, this how WE want our stones to look!
