WITHDRAWING FROM A COURSE
12-Week, 8-Week, and 6-Week Sessions – Students who withdraw froma 12-week, 8-week, and 6-week course prior to the second Saturday ofthe session will have no record of the withdrawal on their transcripts.Thereafter, students who withdraw from the course until the end of theweek prior to final examinations will have the withdrawal noted on theirtranscripts. No withdrawals are allowed for any reason during the lastweek of the session/term.
4-Week Sessions – Students who withdraw from a 4-week coursethrough the first Saturday of the session will have no record of the withdrawal on their transcript. Thereafter, students who withdraw fromthe course until the end of the week prior to final examinations will havethe withdrawal noted on their transcripts. No withdrawals are allowedduring the last week of the session.
Courses Meeting For One Week or Less – Students who withdraw from a course meeting for one week or less prior to the second day of the course will have no record of the withdrawal on their transcripts.Students who withdraw from the second day of the course to the lastday of the course prior to final examinations will have the withdrawalnoted on their transcripts. No withdrawals are allowed for any reasonduring the day on which final examinations are given.
A “W” grade (withdrawal) can only be given administratively by theRegistrar’s Office based on having followed the proper course withdrawalprocedures. If a student has not withdrawn, faculty members are obligedto assume that the student is still in the course and must grade accordingly.

Mailed and faxed withdrawal forms are not accepted.
Please note that non-attendance does not constitute an official with-drawal. If a student who began attendance and did not officially withdraw fails to earn a passing grade in at least one course over anentire term, the University must assume that the student has unofficiallywithdrawn. For this purpose, non-passing grades are defined as W, NE,*, L, or I. Unofficial withdrawals will be determined within 90 days ofthe end of the term. Federal financial aid recipients will have theirawards reviewed and recalculated, causing a reduction in aid awarded.A student must officially withdraw from a course using one of themethods specified above in order to be eligible for a refund.

HEALTH PLANNortheastern University Student Health Plan (NUSHP)
Since September 1989, Massachusetts law, (G. L. c. 15A: ß. 18.), hasrequired every full-time and part-time student enrolled in a Massachusettsinstitution of higher learning to participate in a qualifying student healthinsurance program (QSHIP) or in a health benefit plan with comparablecoverage. For QSHIP requirements, a part-time student is defined as astudent enrolled in at least 75% of the full-time curriculum. (College ofProfessional Studies Undergraduate Students 12 credits, College ofProfessional Studies Graduate Students 7 credits, Part-time EngineeringStudents 12 credits).
Students who meet these requirements will be billed for the Health Plan and the University Health and Counseling Fee. If a student hascomparable* coverage through a domestic insurance provider, he/she maydecline/waive this health plan. Eligible students will need to complete the online waiver via http://myneu.neu.edu (under the self-service tab) to decline the plan and have the fees removed from the tuition bill. Deadlines apply.

REFUNDSCollege of Professional Studies Graduate, Undergraduate,and Evening Noncredit Course Formats (with theexception of full-day courses)12-Week, 8-Week, and 6-Week Sessions – Effective fall 2006, the Collegeof Professional Studies will permit students to withdraw from 12-week,8-week, and 6-week courses through the second Saturday of the sessionand receive a 100% refund. After the second Saturday of the session, anystudent seeking to withdraw from a 12-week, 8-week, or 6-week coursewill be ineligible for a refund.
4-Week Sessions – Effective fall 2006, the College of Professional Studieswill permit students to withdraw from 4-week courses through the firstSaturday of the session and receive a 100% refund. After the first Saturdayof the session, any student seeking to withdraw from a 4-week course willbe ineligible for a refund.
Courses Meeting for One Week or Less – With the exception of EducationSummer Institutes and one-day courses, the College of Professional Studieswill permit students to withdraw from courses meeting for one week orless through the first day of the course and receive a 100% refund. After thefirst day of the course, any student seeking to withdraw from an intensivecourse meeting for one week or less will be ineligible for a refund.
Full-Day Course Formats – For full-day courses, payment must be madeno later than the first day of the course. Course fees are fully refundableif Northeastern University receives written documentation of withdrawal(or rescheduling if applicable) on or before the 14th day prior to the startdate of the course. Withdrawals made less than 14 days prior to the startdate of the course are subject to a 25% late withdrawal fee. If a studentfails to attend a full-day course without notifying NortheasternUniversity, the entire tuition may be assessed. For ProfessionalDevelopment courses, a substitute may be sent in a student’s place in order to avoid the 25% late withdrawal fee.

GRADUATEMaster of Arts in Teaching (MAT)The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for recentcollege graduates and career changers who wish to become teachers.Students earn a master’s degree and teacher licensure in elementaryor secondary education. The program is offered both full-time(12 months) and part-time (24 months), and is endorsed for initiallicensure by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & SecondaryEducation. With the exception of the student teaching practicum,courses are offered in a way that combines both classroom and onlineformats. Courses are taught by Northeastern University faculty andmaster teachers. A special tuition rate is offered for aspiring teachers, and scholarships are available for full-time students.
Master of Science in Criminal Justice LeadershipToday, justice system leaders must have a world-view that can be madeeffective in local settings. These same leaders need to think strategically,communicate locally, and act ethically while developing comprehensive,often multi-jurisdictional solutions to crime and terrorism problems. Parking for properly registered College ofProfessional Studies and Lowell Institute School(LIS) students is provided in the University student parking facilities on a first-come, first-served basis.
Parking permits must be ordered online at www.northeastern.edu/parking OR you can visitthe Northeastern home page and access the pagethrough “Quick Links.” Go to “Parking.” Studentscan apply for permits online usually one weekprior to the start of each quarter. Students must be registered for class (registration received andprocessed by the Registrar’s Office) in order to beeligible for a parking permit. The fee is $155 for an evening student permit and will be charged tothe applicant’s tuition account. Eligible applicantsare told when they can go to the Cashier’s Office (248 Richards Hall) to pick up their permits; applicants will be asked to show photo ID. TheUniversity has established a special Saturday ratefor students who do not have a parking decal.They can park their vehicles in the RenaissancePark Garage for $1.00 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.In order to obtain this special rate, you must present your student ID to the attendant uponexiting the garage. If you do not have your NUID, you will be subject to the normal RenaissancePark Garage rates. No refunds or reimbursementswill be granted should you present your ID at alater time and date.
Parking permits are not required at our satellitelocations outside Boston. The University does not have any parking facilities at theBoston Broad Street (Downtown) satellite campus. EMERGENCY CLOSING OF THE UNIVERSITY
Northeastern University has arranged to notify students, faculty, and staff when itbecomes necessary to cancel classes because of extremely inclement weather throughthe following media outlets, WBZ (1030 AM), WRKO (680 AM), WBZ-TV4, WCVB-TV5,and WHDH-TV7. If a storm occurs at night, the announcement of University closing is given to the stations at approximately 6 a.m. When a storm begins later in the day,cancellations of evening classes may be announced, usually between 2 and 3 p.m. Using the relay operator, Deaf students can call 1.617.373.2000.
