LETTER FROM TIM HALLDIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

Dear Friends:

On behalf of our coaches, staff, and most importantly, our student-athletes, I want to thank-you for your over arching support of the Kangaroos. In reviewing this annual report, you will see that we have continued to make great strides both on the playing venue and in the classroom during the 2009-10 season.

During the 2009-10 academic year, we moved up into sixth place in the final Summit League Commissioner’s Cup standings. Although we strive to be in the top-three on an annual basis, it was second straight year for the ‘Roos to move up in the standings and it was the highest finish for the department since the 2006-07 academic year. Our student-athletes had a great deal of individual success, as a total of six student-athletes grabbed our league’s top individual honors. We had three Player of the Years, three Newcomer of the Years and three Championship MVPs this past season.

In the classroom, our student-athletes continued to have unprecedented success, as the department finished with a 3.1 cumulative grade point average. Additionally, a total of 66 student-athletes were named UMKC Scholar Athletes for having at least a 3.5 grade point average, 108 were Academic all-League honorees and 50 were named to the Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence.

This year also saw the opening of the new Durwood Soccer Stadium & Recreational Field. This venue, located in the heart of the Voelker campus, was a tremendous addi-tion to our department and University as a whole. We enjoyed great growth in support for both our men’s and women’s soccer programs, and we’re very excited to have this venue as a focal point on our campus for years to come.

As you continue to read about our many accomplishments, know that we are working hard not only for the success of today’s student-athletes, but also for the programs of the future. We will continue to use all the resources available to graduate our student-athletes and to put a program on the courts and fields for which you can be proud. We are also committed to our alumni and engaging the fans and friends of UMKC.

This report is designed to give you a general synopsis into UMKC Athletics for the 2009-10 academic year. Should you have any specific questions about any informa-tion contained in the report, please contact James Allan, Sports Information Director ([email protected]) or myself ([email protected]) at your convenience. I also encourage you to follow all the action throughout the upcoming 2010-11 year on our athletics web site, www.UMKCKangaroos.com or via Twitter @TheUMKCRoos.

Go ‘Roos!
