Why Become a Nurse? If you are sensitive to people’s needs and have a strong desire to help others,

becoming a registered nurse (RN) may be an excellent career choice. Nurses

care for the sick and injured, as well as help people stay well. They balance their

technical skills with compassion to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient

care. Nurses can serve in multiple roles, including those of health care provider,

teacher, and manager.

Registered nursing is one of the nation’s fastest growing occupations. Demand

for skilled, well-trained nurses is at an all-time high, and will continue to rise as

the population ages and technology allows for new methods in treatment.

Graduates of the Mercy College Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program

who go on to receive a registered nurses (RNs) license have a wide variety of

employment opportunities after only two years of study. As an RN, you may

choose to work in a traditional setting such as a clinic, hospital, or private

physician practice. Or you may consider a nontraditional job opportunity, such

as an assisted living or long-term care facility nurse, an occupational nurse at an

employer’s job site, or as a public health nurse in a government agency or school.

Whatever your preference is, opportunities abound!

Why Become an Allied Health Professional? Skilled health care workers are in high demand in virtually every area of medicine.

The Mercy College Division of Allied Health offers a variety of quality degree and

certificate programs that provide exciting career opportunities. When you enroll in

one of our many programs, you will develop expertise, scientific knowledge, and

a professional attitude that will prepare you for a rewarding career.

Each program focuses on a specific aspect of health care and adheres to standards

and guidelines established in collaboration with the appropriate accrediting

agency. Certificate programs are based on a foundation of practical skills that can

be mastered in one year. Associate of Science degree programs are generally

completed in a two-year period and are based upon a foundation of liberal arts

and sciences that is essential for an informed and productive career.
