Overview: Writing a background document of 500 words (summary task) and making a recommendation based on it. Article: To be provided in the Week 1 class and posted on vUWS. Due: Hand in a hard copy at the start of the Session 4 class. Worth: 20% What is an summary? A summary provides a broad overview of an essay or article’s most important points and is significantly shorter than the essay or article.

Overview Compare and critically review two business reports (which are provided in the Week 4 class). Details The focus of this assignment is the student’s ability to identify the communication objectives and “spin” in business type documents. Further details and materials for this assignment will be made available to the students in the Week 4 class and posted on vUWS. Number of words: 1,500 words. Due: Hand in a hard copy at the start of the Session 7 class. Worth: 40%

Overview Students will be put into teams, to undertake a group project. Details Briefly, the task will be twofold. • The team will spend several weeks of the session designing the first edition of
an organisations e-newsletter.
• Then, in Week 10, the team will present both the e-newsletter edition which the team have designed AND the team’s case as to why the organisation should continue with a e-newsletter along those lines. This presentation will be to the Board of Directors (or other management body) of the organisation .Each team will also be asked to present agendas and minutes of team meetings at two stages of the project during the Session.
