The Tigers return 10 letterwinners including three starters from last year’s 28-4 team which won its third straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship and advanced to the NCAADivision III quarterfinals for the thirdstraight year. First team all-SCAC guard and preseason all-America choice Cassie Pruzin returns for her senior season after averaging 14.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game last year. “Cassie is our most experienced player and she leads by her play on the court,” DePauw’s 16th year head coach Kris Huffman said. DePauw’s 12th all-time leading scorer, Pruzin has started each of her first three seasons andentersherfinalseasonrankedsecondinDePauwhistory in three-pointersmadeandfifth inbothassists and steals. Brianna Frigerio looks to see considerable time at another guard spot after playing an increased role late in her rookie season. Sophomore Courtney Lauer along with a talented group of newcomers will battle for spots as well. Kaci Kust is a 6-0 guard who gives the Tigers some size on the perimeter, while Tammy Taylor, Cary Werntz and Danielle Brown should also add depth. Sophomore Katie Mathews looks to start at point guard after playing in all 32 games last year and while averaging 5.2 points and just under two assists per game. “Katie gained great experience last year and we’ll rely on her heavily this season,” Huffman said. Backup will come from a group of three players including sophomore Lauren Goff and newcomers Kathryn Denbow and Kelly Kohlndorfer. Jenna Fernandez, the Tigers’ leading scorer last year and a second team all-SCAC forward, will likely
miss the entire season due to injury. The junior averaged 14.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game a yearagowhilehittingover51percentof herfieldgoal tries. The two most experienced frontcourt players include senior Andrea Travelstead and junior Emily Marshall. Travelstead came off the bench in all 32 games last season and averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds while playing just under 18 minutes per outing. Marshall, a two-year starter, averaged 6.3 points and 6.0 rebounds and will be relied upon for her defense and rebounding. Junior transfer Danielle Boraz is expected to add depth inside and provide versatility on the perimeter as well. Boraz averaged 12.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in two years at NAIA’s Central Methodist (Mo.). Senior Sarah Merkel played in all but one game last year and is returning from off-season surgery, while sophomore Michelle Harrison is expected to contribute after sustaining a season-ending injury inherfirstcollegiategamelastyear.Addingdepthare junior Kristin Barrow, sophomore Nancy Tobik and newcomer Katie Aldrich. “This will be a different year for us with a younger guard court,” Huffman said. “We’re excited about the team’s development as they’re a group that wants to work hard to get better. We’ll continue to focus on defense and rebounding.” Senior forward Andrea Travelstead will likely move into a
starting role in 2008-09.

The $7.2 million Lilly Physical Education and Recreation Center was dedi-cated in April of 1982. The Center is named in memory of Eli Lilly, Josiah K. Lilly and Josiah K. Lilly Jr., great-grandfather, grandfather and father, respectively, of Ms. Ruth Lilly of Indianapolis, the Center’s main benefactor.
Uponcompletion, theLillyCenterwasoneof thefinestandmostcompleterecreation and sports facilities among all small colleges and universities in the United States. The center includes a 25-yard by 25-meter pool with 10 lanes, six racquetball courts, complete locker room facilities, class and conference rooms.

Truly a multipurpose facility, the Center often is the site of several intercollegiate activities occurring simultaneously. In 1997 the weight room underwent an extensive renovation and addition which made it oneof thefinestfitnesscentersatanysmallcollegeinthenation.
The main section of the Center is the Raymond “Gaumey” Neal Fieldhouse, named in honor of the coach of DePauw’s undefeated, untied and unscored upon 1933footballteam.Thefieldhouseincludesa2,800-seatbasketballandvolleyballarena and three multipurpose courts which can accommodate volleyball, tennis, badminton, soccer and many other sports.
Nearly $3 million of the funds for the Lilly Center were raised by the members of the 1933 football team, exclusively through donations made by the surviving members.

The women’s team began play in the Neal Fieldhouse on February 16, 1982, when it hosted Franklin. Since then DePauw’s women’s teams have compiled a 217-87 record for a .714 winning percentage in the building. During Coach Kris Huffman’s 15 years the Tigers have recorded a 161-27 record for an .856 winning per-centage in Neal Fieldhouse.

Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) was founded and began operation in Sep-tember 1962 as the College Athletic Conference (CAC) with four charter members of Centre Col-lege, Southwestern at Memphis (now known as Rhodes College), Sewanee: The University of the South, and Washington & Lee University of Lex-ington, Virginia. Later in 1962, Washington Univer-sity inSt.Louis,Missouri,becamethefifthmem-ber. Membership remained unchanged until 1972 when Washington University in St. Louis left. Washington & Lee University also left the confer-ence in 1973. Principia College of Elsah, Illinois, maintained membership from 1974-85 and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology of Terre Haute, Indiana, from 1975-89. Additionally, Illinois Col-lege of Jacksonville, Illinois, was a member from 1980-83; Earlham College of Richmond, Indiana, from 1984-89; and Fisk University of Nashville, Tennessee, from 1983-94. But the conference began to stabilize with its membership and structure in late 1980s and early 1990s. Millsaps College of Jackson, Mississippi, and Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas, joined in 1989. Then, with the addition of Oglethorpe Uni-
versity of Atlanta, Georgia, in 1991, the conference restructured and renamed itself the Southern Colle-giateAthleticConference.Italsohireditsfirstfull-time commissioner in Steve Argo and established a conferenceofficeinmetropolitanAtlanta. With the addition of Hendrix College in 1992, the SCAC grew to eight members. Following the departure of Fisk University in 1994, Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas, joined the SCAC to maintain eight members. The SCAC then added its ninth and 10th members in 1998 with DePauw University of Greencastle, Indiana, and welcomed back Rose-Hulman after a nine-year absence.

With 11 of 12 member institutions maintaining Phi Beta Kappa chapters on their campuses, the SCAC boasts some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation. SCAC schools are also consistently ranked among the top colleges and universities in the nation by national publications. The SCAC sponsors championships in 19 sports, including 10 for women and nine for men. The SCAC currently sponsors men’s and women’s crosscountry,fieldhockey,men’sandwomen’ssoc-cer, football, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming & diving, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s andwomen’soutdoortrack&field, andmen’sandwomen’s golf. All spring championships are hosted at the Spring Sports Festival, which has been held since the conference’s inception during the 1962-63 academic year. The first Festivalwasheld in 1963 at Washington & Lee University and has been continued without interruption since that year. A bell donated by the Norfolk & Western Rail-way was adopted as the SCAC’s President’s Trophy and is maintained by the conference member that wins the annual all-sports competition, honor-ing the school’s athletics program that totals the most points in their men’s and women’s program.
