The governments of Canada and
Barbados have negotiated an
Open Skies-type air transport

The Honourable Lawrence Cannon,
Minister of Transport, Infrastructure

“This is Canada’s first Open Skies-

The Vancouver Organizing
Committee for the 2010 Olympic
and Paralympic Winter Games
(VANOC) has named Vancouver Airport
Authority as an Official Supplier of the
2010 Winter Games. This partnership
marks the first time in Olympic Games
history that an airport has been named
an Official Supplier.
As an Official Supplier, the Airport
Authority has sponsorship rights in the
airport category for the 2010 Winter
Games and is committed to providing
world-class operations and services
prior to, during and after the Games.
In addition, the Airport Authority
receives the sponsorship rights to the
Canadian Olympic team for the Beijing
2008 Summer Games, the Vancouver
2010 Winter Games and the London
2012 Summer Games. The sponsorship
commitment includes: dedicated airport
amenities and services for VANOC
and 2010 Winter Games activities,
accreditation processing and departure
screening facilities, expedited passenger
arrivals and baggage services, specialized
training for airport staff, parking and
ground transportation services and
office space.
“As an Official Supplier, we will
provide many athletes, officials,
media and visitors with the first and
last impression of the Vancouver
2010 Winter Games,” said Larry Berg,
president and chief executive officer,
Vancouver Airport Authority. “Our goal
is to provide a smooth, seamless and
exceptional travel experience to every
passenger that visits our airport for
the Games or any other reason. We
are enhancing our facilities, passenger
services and customer care program to
ensure we meet this goal before, during
and after the 2010 Winter Games.”
The Airport Authority’s long-
established working relationship with
VANOC also includes separate, but
complementary agreements covering
terminal advertising opportunities and
six dedicated Olympic Stores in the
International and Domestic Terminals
featuring Vancouver 2010 Winter Games
merchandise.
The sponsorship announcement
was made at a community event held
in YVR’s new Link building, which
connects the Domestic and International
Terminals, provides additional check-in
and baggage facilities, and will be the
final stop for Canada Line trains heading
to and from the airport. In attendance
at the announcement were employees
of Vancouver Airport Authority, local
airport business partners, VANOC
representatives, elected officials and
other Games sponsors who marked the
start of this partnership by signing a
large-scale commemorative banner that
is displayed in the terminal.

focus will be to lead the preparation, planning, and delivery of our
mandate to welcome each guest with personalized care during
the Games.
Customer care is not just a priority in 2010. To ensure we
maintain our commitment to care for each and every customer
who comes through the airport, Don Ehrenholz, formerly director,
engineering projects, has stepped into the role of vice president,
airport operations.
With our team in place, I am confident we will set a new
standard in welcoming the world. We have already introduced
services that are unprecedented among Canadian airports, such as
our 24-hour customer care counter in the Canada Border Services
Agency Customs Hall. This counter receives approximately 250
enquiries a day, with questions ranging from information about
YVR facilities to flight information to baggage. The most common
questions are related to directions.
Another service that has received widespread use and will
serve us well during 2010 is our 24-hour Language Line, which
gives us access to translators speaking more than 170 different
languages. On average, the Language Line is used about four to
six times a day. So far the most requested languages have been
Mandarin and Spanish.
We have more work to do to prepare for the Games, but we
are well on our way to welcoming the world, one person at a
time.

Barbados Agreement from page 1
President’s CornerBy LARRY BERG, President and Chief Executive Officer
Name that Aircraft
“Canada greatly values its
close, long-standing relationship
with Barbados,” said Minister
Emerson. “Canada is celebrating
the 100th anniversary of the
Canadian Trade Commissioner
Service’s presence in Barbados
this year. The new agreement
will provide a stronger basis
for competitive air services. We
anticipate this will generate even
more growth in trade, tourism
and investment.”
The new agreement also
provides all-cargo air carriers
with greater options to facilitate
and expedite the flow of cargo
between both countries, and
third countries, including those
of the Caricom region. Caricom
countries include Antigua
and Barbuda, the Bahamas,
Barbados, Belize, Dominica,
Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica,
Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis,
Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and
the Grenadines, Suriname, and
Trinidad and Tobago.
This new agreement builds on
Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s
visit to the Caribbean region
in July 2007, when he outlined
Canada’s re-engagement in the
Americas as a critical, long-term
international priority for the
government.
In 2007, trade between Canada
and Caricom members, including
Barbados, was $2.2-billion, a 20
per cent increase from 2006.
Canadian merchandise exports
to Caricom totalled $725-million
and merchandise imports from
Caricom totalled $1.47-billion.
In 2006, 25,600 Canadians
travelled to Barbados. The
Caricom region received more
than 251,100 Canadian tourists
in 2006.
The new provisions are
applied immediately. Once
ratified, the new agreement will
replace the 1985 agreement
currently in force.

Honda Aircraft is expanding
sales of its advanced HondaJet
with a direct sales and service
support plan for the Canadian market.
Sales to Canada will be handled directly
from the company’s headquarters in
Greensboro, North Carolina. Service
support will be provided through the
HondaJet service facilities in the U.S. that
are closest to the Canadian customers’
location.
Initial deliveries of the HondaJet to
Canadian customers are expected to
begin by the year 2012.
“This is an important step to have our
business plan in place in Canada,” said
Michimasa Fujino, president and CEO
of Honda Aircraft. “We are confident
that we have established the basis for
exceptional support that will provide
our customers with unparalleled quality
and convenience.”
Honda Aircraft began U.S. sales of the
HondaJet in October 2006 and quickly
amassed orders for well over 100 units.
In order to answer increasing demand
for the new business jet, the company is
expanding sales to now include both the
Canadian and Mexican markets.
The HondaJet features several
innovations that are designed to help
it achieve better fuel efficiency, larger
cabin and luggage space, and higher
cruise speed than conventional aircraft
in its Very Light Jet class. The result of
20 years of aviation research by Honda,
key HondaJet innovations include a
patented over-the-wing engine-mount
configuration, a natural-laminar flow (NLF)
wing and fuselage nose, and an advanced
all-composite fuselage structure.
Worldwide HondaJet pilot training
will be conducted in partnership with
Flight Safety International, which will
include the development of a Level-
D, full-motion flight simulator for
HondaJet. The first simulator will be
installed at Honda Aircraft Company’s
new headquarters facility. Additional
training facilities will be established in
the future as HondaJet sales continue
to grow.

owned subsidiary of Honda Motor

building, moved to the new terminal
last month.
• The other oneworld airlines
serving Beijing—Cathay Pacific,
Dragonair, Finnair and Japan
Airlines—will transfer into
Terminal 3 on March 26.
All oneworld airlines will use check-in
desks in the terminal’s area C.
Dragonair and Cathay Pacific will
announce details of their lounge facility
in Terminal 3 ahead of their move there.
Premium passengers from other
oneworld carriers will have access to
the new common-use lounge in Beijing
Terminal 3, which opened last month,
with separate facilities for First and
Business Class passengers.
This lounge is located one floor up
from the main departures concourse
level, near the airlines’ departure gates.
They offer a full range of facilities for
passengers whether they want to work
or relax.
All six oneworld carriers serving
Beijing currently operate in Terminal 2.
Between them, they operate up to 15
departures a day from Beijing non-stop to
eight destinations with connections to the
near 700 airports they and their oneworld
partners serve worldwide.
Designed by British architects Foster
and Partners, the US$2-billion Terminal
3 covers one million square metres. With
a third runway for the airport opening at
the same time, it will double capacity to
76 million passengers a year.

of the first of eight Boeing
777-200LR (long range) jets
scheduled to enter its fleet by early 2009.
By adding the world’s longest-range
commercial jetliner to its fleet, Delta
bolsters its ability to connect customers
and cargo between virtually any two
cities around the globe, nonstop.
“This 777-200LR marks an important
milestone for Delta as our first new
delivery from Boeing in six years, as well
as another step forward in creating a truly
global airline,” said Edward Bastian, Delta’s
president and chief financial officer.
Delta received the new aircraft during
an event at Boeing Field in Seattle attended
by Bastian and more than 100 Delta
employees. In tribute to employees and
to the original “Spirit of Delta”—a Boeing
767-200 given to the airline in 1982
by employees, retirees and friends—the
new Boeing 777-200LR, Ship 7101, will
be called “The Delta Spirit” in gratitude
to the many accomplishments of Delta’s
employees worldwide. The aircraft will be
officially dedicated to Delta employees in
a celebration this month in Atlanta.
The new 777-200LR is the flagship
aircraft for Delta’s new global product,
including fully horizontal personal
sleeper suites in BusinessElite, next-
generation, more comfortable seats
in coach, and Delta’s on-demand
entertainment system on larger screens
at every seat.
BusinessElite customers flying on
the 777-200LR will enjoy a host of new
features that include reclining, adjustable
seats that lie flat, privacy screens,
personal stowage compartment and USB
ports for personal MP3 players.
Delta plans to offer sleeper suites
with these amenities on its entire 777
fleet by 2010.
The airline’s 777-200LR aircraft
will offer customers flying in coach
comfortable all-leather slim-line seats
each with on-demand music, movies,
games and television on individual 9-inch
video monitors. Delta is the first airline
to offer the sleek, new, leading-edge
seats from Weber Aircraft LP, offering
up to 1.5 inches of increased personal
space, additional under-seat storage,
and ergonomically designed cushions.
On all Delta international flights,
customers in coach also enjoy enhanced
food offerings, a complimentary cocktail
with each meal, and complimentary
amenities, including eye shades and ear
plugs for more personal comfort and
privacy.
