UNL Faculty Women’s Club Fall 2006 Newsletter www.unl.edu/fwc/

From Our President

T here’s always excitement in the air as the fall season approaches in Lin-coln. And that holds true for Faculty Women’s Club as well.

Our Fall Welcome Tea is a special event to welcome newcomers, catch up with long-time friends and meet new members. We look forward to this year’s tea, because President James B. Milliken and Nana Smith are opening their home to us. It will be the perfect setting to launch our new academic year. We cordially welcome all UNL female faculty and administrators, wives of faculty and administrators, as well as emeriti to join Faculty Women’s Club. Your membership allows you to participate in as many ac-tivities as your schedule permits. Your Faculty Women’s Club Board has been hard at work arranging many interesting programs including the Fall Brunch and Fall Tour you won’t want to miss. Review all the Interest Groups that are open to dues-paying members. The Newcomers Group has been very popular with our new members. The Wel-come Tea is a good time to learn about all of these activities and sign up. Be sure to check the schedule of events and put these dates on your calendars. Look for reservation forms to join FWC, as well as for the Fall Tour and Fall Brunch in this newsletter and on our website. Don’t miss out! By paying your dues, you also help provide scholarships to worthy UNL students. A portion of your dues goes toward these scholarships. To help us maintain a certain level of giving, the FWC Board of Directors voted to raise the dues to $25.00. Money earned by volunteering at Homecoming and ASUN elections also goes towards scholarship fund. We are very proud of the scholarships that have been awarded each year. I look forward to serving as your president. Come join me on Wednesday, September 6th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM for tea as we begin this exciting year together. Our success depends on you! Sincerely, UNL FWC President

Welcome Newcomers

T he University of Nebraska-Lincoln Faculty Women’s Club extends a friendly WELCOME to

Fall Tour James Arthur Vineyards

T his year we’ll spend our day out

at James Arthur Vineyard just outside of Lincoln. We’ll listen to UNL staff personnel share with us how our state is developing a grape and wine industry; tour the winery, tasting room, and vineyards at JAV; and enjoy a lovely buffet lunch on site. Even if you are not “into” wine, we think you’ll find the day interesting and a fine opportunity to spend some time at this pic-turesque country winery. The cost of bus transportation for this trip was ex-treme, so we chose not to hire transportation for this event. Those wishing to join us can choose to meet us at the winery site at 11:00 AM (you may call Christine Read at 421-1915 for very easy direc-tions) or meet others who wish to carpool from the east corner of the Gere Library parking lot, 2400 S. 56th Street, at 10:00 AM. We will plan to return to Gere Library around 2:00 PM. The cost for the day with lunch is $15. If you would like to add a wine tasting to your day the total cost will be $20.

W e are in for a special treat this year as President James B. Milliken and Nana Smith

have graciously offered to host this year’s Tea in their home. We hope that you will be able to at-tend. A separate invitation is being sent which re-quires an RSVP. Attending this tea is a wonderful opportunity to greet faculty women friends, meet newcomers, pay your dues, check out the many interest groups and sign up for special activities. Come join us for a lovely afternoon.
