CTE College Credit (formerly Tech Prep) al-lows Juniors and Seniors to earn up to 21 college credits FREE for select Career and Technical Ed-ucation (CTE) courses that they take in high school. Students must take a pre-determined sequence of CTE courses, earn an A or B, apply to be a GBC student, and fill out the ONLINE CTE College Credit Application to receive credit. The CTE courses availa-ble for credit are dependent on the high school that the student is attending. For a complete list of which high school CTE classes apply, visit www.gbcnv.edu/techprep.
CTE College Credits save students time and
money.
CTE College credits are FREE, tuition savings can equal up to approximately $2,100. In addition, some CTE courses count as intro-ductory courses for GBC programs, so students may not have to take the intro-ductory courses their fresh-man (college) year.
Starting the 2015-2016 School year, students will need to complete a three year high school CTE se-quence, earn a 3.0 GPA within the CTE sequence, and pass both the technical assessment and employa-bility skills assessment, to be eligible to apply for CTE College Credit.. More de-tails will be coming soon as we transition to the new model of awarding articulat-ed credit. What do you want to be when you grow up? Have you thought about what kind of education it will take for you to get to your career? Did you know a career in Health Sci-ence may require you to study dead bodies? If you pursue a ca-reer in Business or Computer Technologies, you can go to work in your pajamas. With a career in Agriculture or Natural Resources, your office is the outdoors. If you choose a tech-nical trade, you get dirty but can make $65,000/year with one year of education. Human Service and Public Safety careers do not make you BAD, you get to help people that really need help, and that makes you GOOD! Each video provides you a look at GBC students in their careers af-ter they graduated from GBC. Check them out at www.gbcnv.edu/techprep.
