• Write one blog a week and post it within yourblog on why people are investing in your industry, what is going on in the industry, all of the successstories in the industry and why you compare.

• Set-up a Twitter account, every time you publisha press release, newsletter, notice, or post, paraphrase the title and twitter the title with alink to the website

Blog Integrates Continued

• Read some of your followers comments, andinteract via twitter by asking them why theydecided to follow your firm, and do they have ablog, etc. Create interaction. Use the twitteraccount for the marketing people and travelingexecutives to, so that you can twitter “our CEO isin Florida today speaking at a conference” or “Iam at the Hard Assets Conference in Las Vegasthis weekend, who else is going” etc. By puttingin the personal touches, updates, and personallocation, the followers have a genuine feeling ofwho they are reading and why.

Blog Integrates Continued

• Spend 1 hour a day at least updating the blogand twitter account, so that the market gets acontinued feeling that you want tocommunicate with them. Never go silent forlonger than a week, it is a bad sign, like notsending out a press release. We are all awareof the cost of a press release, and thecompanies limiting how much and how oftendue to budgets, but social media is free, thecompany has no excuse.

Blog Integrates Continued

• Ensure research reports written on your firminclude the blog and twitter account in thecompany profile

• Inform people of your blog in investorpresentations, corporate presentations, etc.

• Develop a press release related to your socialmedia marketing campaign, and inform theinvestors of all the places they can follow yourfirm online.

Blog Integrates Continued

If you hire any investor relations firms, make sure theynotify people of the blog and twitter account to follow, but also make sure they are not spamming it to peopleor else you will lose followers and market respect.

That’s my queue for a pitch, [email protected] for Mark Bragg to buildan strategy that suits regulation FD and complies withcurrent publication regulations and use of the internet.

Page 12: 20 Social Media Strategiesfor Public Companies

Other Mediums

• Utilize newsgroups, discussion forums, andtargeted postings to discuss your blogs, free anduseful information, and why they should followthe company profile, blog, twitter, etc. Leave linksto all of the mediums you are using and try toparticipate within the groups once a week, or theday of posting, whichever is sooner. This way, your forums become defacto followers of yourcontent, but ensure you are commenting onrelevant information to the groups and not justspam posting.

Page 13: 20 Social Media Strategiesfor Public Companies

Youtube and Video Blogs

Utilize youtube for loading up video’s ofcorporate presentations, talking heads aboutthe most current press release launched byyour CEO or executives, etc. Blog the contentwith a link to the video, twitter its publication.

My favourite is simply reading your pressreleases and blog aloud and posting them.

Page 14: 20 Social Media Strategiesfor Public Companies

Twitter

• Encourage your executives to sign-up for twitter accountsand update their accounts with links to your press andposts, or have them retweet your tweets as employees andexecutives of the company. Ensure there is a policy in placeas to what executives can and cannot discuss as ultimatelythe SEC is very clear about the liability of what employeessay online falls upon the company. For example, they canpost links to press, but can not discuss price of the share, how much money the company has, etc, unless its withinthe filings, and even then, it has to be in a capacity of notadvice. Best to have them use it socially and randomly postinto their “personal” profile a link to press here and there.

Page 15: 20 Social Media Strategiesfor Public Companies

Twitter Continued

• Put the blog and twitter links on your company website• Send out a newsletter to your current base of contacts

informing them of the new blog and twitter accountfollowing your firm, and continue to do so at the footer ofyour emails, newsletters, etc, so that individuals begin tofollow your firm there.

• Ensure research reports written on your firm include theblog and twitter account in the company profile

• Put the Blog, Twitter, and Facebook group in filings assources of information. (Helps legitimize future eProxyuses)
