Our goal is to build long lasting relationships with our customers, come to know them and their customers as individuals – allowing us to apply our knowledge and expertise to give them the best product at the best price for their unique application while maintaining an unsurpassed level of service.
Precision Instrument Company began as a division of Engineered Specialty Products Inc in 1987. PIC began by developing a limited line of gauges and thermometers to satisfy the needs of OEMs that required high volumes of quality products at low costs. Since that time, PIC has developed a full line of quality instrumentation, We have several manufacturing facilities producing gauges, thermometers and accessories equal to or above industry standard specifications. We have combined our knowledge and experience with industry demands to produce quality products with pricing below that of our competitors and service exceeding expectations.
Why PIC?
1. No Stocking Requirements PIC has NO STOCKING REQUIREMENTS; you only stock what you need to support your unique
customer base. PIC has a very liberal exchange policy allowing for frequent inventory adjustments, which means you don’t keep dead inventory thus reducing your cost of inventory while increasing inventory turnover rate.
2. Delivery/Service PIC has approximately $6,000,000.00 finished goods in inventory – available or same day shipping with the added ability to make specials with shipment in 1-2 days. PIC also has a complete inventory of diaphragm seals with the facilities to do in-house assembling and filling for shipments in 1-2 days plus gauge repair capabilities. All of this adds up to unsurpassed service and delivery, reducing the need to search for product, reducing the chances of lost orders due to delivery, reducing customer aggravation and reducing costs due to expedite charges and air freight shipments.
3. Competitiveness PIC has the proven ability to compete against all manufacturers and win! After over 20 years of competing with every major manufacturer, we have learned what it takes to beat the competition on every level – PIC can show you why you should never lose an order to the competition with our products, pricing and service.
4. Profitability At PIC, we understand the bottom line is profit. Increased competition in the market place has forced smaller profit margins for most companies to remain competitive. We continue to keep pricing lower than industry averages, allowing you to maintain reasonable profit margins.
5. Sales Support: PIC has long-term, proven relationships between our inside and outside sales staff and our customers which have allowed us to know each of our customers and their requirements individually - which has been very effective in obtaining and maintaining new and old business. There are very few accounts we have actively pursued that we have not been able to close.
6. Conclusion PIC’s Lower prices, quicker deliveries and lower inventory costs add up to higher profit margins and less competition.

PRESSURE GAUGE SELECTION
Specifications and options to consider when selecting pressure gauge(s)
1.) Dial Size Standard available dial sizes: 1”, 1 ½”, 2”, 2 ½”, 3 ½”, 4”, 4 ½”, 6” or 8 ½” Other dial sizes are available
Determine dial size by measuring across the diameter of the face
2.) Connection Location Bottom connected (lower mount) is the most common Center back mount (or lower back mount) is also considered standard Other locations can be supplied by special request
3.) Connection Size Typical sizes (expressed in NPT sizes) 1/8”, 1/4", or 1/2" Other sizes and types of connections are available upon request Please call to check if you have special requirements
4.) Mounting Stem mount (No Special Mounting Hardware Required) Panel mount – U-Clamp Panel mount – Front Flange Wall mount – Back Flange
5.) Material of Wetted Parts (Refers to all parts in contact with process fluid – Please check corrosion guides for suitable materials)
Most typical applications – brass or bronze tube and socket More severe applications may require stainless steel – 316SS is standard (Occasionally Monel will be necessary) If none of these are adequate for the application, a diaphragm seal will be required
6.) Dry Or Liquid Filled Dry gauges are suitable for most applications Glycerine filled gauges will be specified for applications with pulsation or vibration
or for other reasons based on customer preference Silicone filling may be required where process conditions don’t allow the use of glycerine filling, such
as temperature extremes or concerns regarding interaction with process Other fluids are available please call if above are not suitable
7.) Case Material (Typically determined by size and type specified above) Some industry standard materials & gauges types are listed: Black painted steel case – dry type, utility and industrial gauges Aluminum – process and industrial gauges Stainless steel – liquid filled and process gauges Phenolic/Polypropylene – process gauges
8.) Range Typically specified in PSI for pressure from 0 up to 15,000 PSI or Inches or mercury vacuum from 0 to 30” of mercury vacuum Compound ranges have both pressure and vacuum Other available scales: Metric reading (Bar, kPa, Kg/cm2, mPa)
Low pressure (inches of water or milli-bar) Altitude (feet of water or meters of water)
Force (tons on ram) And many more Dual scale: Standard with metric ranges or
Pressure with equivalent altitude, force, etc.
9.) Accuracy Typically will be determined by size and type of gauge determined above Accuracy grades are specified by ASME standards
10.) Certification/Cleaning Conformance Certificate – states gauges meets catalog specifications and/or order requirements Certificate of Accuracy – gauge is tested up and down scale with accuracy and % of error noted Special – by customer request – particular aspect of gauge certified to meet customer requirement Oxygen Cleaning – gauge cleaned and bagged – suitable for oxygen service Special – by customer request – gauge cleaned to particular cleanliness level required by customer
11.) Other It is a good idea to always ask if there are any other special process conditions to be aware of, or of any special needs they have, occasionally your customer will have unusual requirements or uncommon requests
Note: Although this is a good model to follow this does not guarantee you will get all critical information, or, that with the information supplied you will get the exact item your customer wants.

Our ‘200’ series gauge line is a high quality line of liquid filled pressure gauges. The glycerine filling helps dampen the effects of pulsation and vibration, while also perpetually lubricating the movement and keeping contaminates such as dirt away from all moving parts, which will extend the life of the gauge. This gauge has been specifically designed with original equipment manufacturers in mind and is typically used on hydraulic and pneumatic systems as well as any commercial or industrial application not corrosive to brass and bronze wetted parts where glycerine filling is suitable for use.

Our ‘S215L’ gauge is a heavy duty, high quality liquid filled gauge. The glycerine filling helps dampen the effects of pulsation and vibration, while also perpetually lubricating the movement, keeping contaminates such as dirt away from all moving parts, which will extend the life of the gauge. Rugged enough for the trucking industry, these heavy duty gauges are designed to withstand abuse and extremes that are well in excess of what is normally seen in almost any other commercial or industrial applications. These gauges therefore are suitable for use in any application where process media is not corrosive to brass and bronze wetted parts, where glycerine filling is favorable for use.

Our ‘SE-200LFW-EZ’ series gauge line is a quality line of liquid filled pressure gauges. The ‘EZ-read’ dial allows accurate and easy readings from a convenient distance. This is also beneficial for safety if there is a chance that the gauge may be over-pressured – keeping inspectors out of harms way.
The glycerine filling helps dampen the effects of pulsation and vibration, while also perpetually lubricating the movement (and keeping contaminates such as dirt away from all moving parts) which will extend the life of the gauge. This gauge has been specifically designed with original equipment manufacturers in mind. It is typically used on hydraulic & pneumatic systems as well as any commercial or industrial application not corrosive to brass and bronze wetted parts where glycerine filling is suitable for use.
Notice how the ‘EZ-READ’ Dial allows clear, accurate and easy readings from a convenient
distance. This is also beneficial for safety if there is a chance that the gauge may be over-
pressured, keeping inspectors out of harms way.

Positioners attach to actuators on different types of valves and regulators – controlling many aspects of process variables including Pressure, Flow, Temperature and motion. This includes process heating, cooling, mixing, etc and the list goes on. Positioners have pressure gauges mounted on them to monitor air supply and controlled output for 2 or more movements
(Typically P1 is for actuation, P2 if for return to normal). These gauges are mounted in a small area close together, close to the valve and positioner body - so dial size is critical.
Note: Pictures are for application illustration only. Pictures do not indicate any positioner manufacturer is or is not using our product, has approved our product for use or recommend our gauges over others

Our ‘40MM’ series gauge is a small diameter, high quality positioner gauge made of all stainless steel. Hermetically sealed and liquid fillable, this gauge incorporates the best features available in a small diameter pressure gauge. The hermetical seal prevents dust, dirt or other contaminates from entering the case, while the available liquid filling can help dampen shock and vibration and lubricate the movement and internals of the gauge. These features prolong the life of the gauge. This gauge has been specifically designed with original equipment manufacturers in mind where size and cost are critical factors. These gauges are also well suited for any commercial or industrial application where stainless steel components are required.

Our ‘401’ series gauge line is a competitive line of ammonia gauges, designed with the original equipment manufacturers in mind. Available dry, glycerine filled or silicone filled, these gauges are suitable for use on most ammonia refrigeration systems
These gauges are liquid fillable: the liquid filling helps dampen the effects of pulsation and vibration, while also perpetually lubricating the movement (and keeping contaminates such as dirt away from all moving parts) which will extend the life of the gauge. Also the case and connection are welded preventing possible leakage at the bottom of the case. Although these gauges are the best mix of quality and price we also stock a full line of ammonia gauges available in various dial sizes, connections and case designs.

These gauges have a SS bourdon tube with steel socket. They are designed for use on the agricultural sprayer equipment that distributes and stores; ammonia fertilizers, chemical herbicides, pesticides as well as the fluids used for cleaning the equipment. Crop protection chemicals are most effective when applied at proper rates. The spreading of the different types of chemicals over crops is critical to the health of the plants, environment and ultimately consumers. Over applications of any of these chemicals can greatly increase the cost per acre for application, destroy crops or pollute the environment, while under application can lead to smaller unhealthy crops. To achieve satisfactory spray coverage, spray application equipment must deliver proper application rates in gallons per acre and desirable application pressures in pounds per square inch, The actual range used will depend on the stage of crop growth (size) and the time and method of application. Proper calibration assures safe, economical and effective practices. To correctly calibrate sprayers - pumps, nozzles, pressure regulators and gauges must be properly maintained. Our gauges are used to set and monitor line pressure to the nozzles.

FILTER TYPE PRESSURE SNUBBER
Pressure oscillations and other sudden pressure changes can affect the delicate mechanisms of a pressure gauge or pressure transmitter. This can result in either complete failure of the instrument or false and inaccurate readings. Pressure snubbers are designed to reduce or prevent these oscillations and fluctuations from reaching and affecting pressure instruments. Pressure snubbers reduce pressure spikes only; a pressure snubber will not eliminate any prolonged overpressure. Spikes last for milliseconds only, over pressures lasting longer than that can damage the pressure sensor. The pressure snubbers below are the “filter” type using a porous filter media made of sintered metal. Because the filter element is a fine mesh type, it should be used on processes that do not contain particulate or sludge that would clog the element. In the event that the snubber does get clogged, our snubbers can be disassembled for cleaning if necessary. SPECIFICATIONS:

COOLING TOWER
Temperature Affects Pressure Gauges: Mechanical pressure gauges are typically designed and calibrated to be most
accurate and durable in ambient conditions between 65 and 85˚F, with process temperatures not exceeding 150˚F. If required, gauges can be ordered - calibrated to be most accurate for specific temperature ranges (within certain limits)
Outside of the normal working conditions temperature can affect the accuracy and lifespan of gauges. Precautions should be taken to ensure that pressure gauges are not continuously exposed to temperature extremes.
Good gauge practices have always recommended pigtail siphons (a) for steam or other high temperature applications. Other optional preventative measures include capillary (b) to remote mount the gauge away from the process or cooling towers to dissipate heat from the process fluid before it enters the gauge. This can also be true for low temperature extremes such as cryogenic applications.
Other methods for protecting instruments from temperature extremes:
(a) Pigtail Siphon ( b) Capillary

PRESSURE LIMITING VALVE
ADVANTAGES :
• PREVENT DAMAGE TO GAUGE / INSTRUMENTS DUE TO SUDDEN PRESSURE SURGE • 316SS CONSTRUCTION • COMPACT DESIGN • AUTOMATIC POSITIVE ACTION • IN LINE INSTALLATION • REPEATABLE PEFORMANCE • MAXIMUM WORKING PRESSURE 6,000 PSI
Part Numbering System PLV = PRESSURE LIMITING VALVE 4 = ¼” NPT 2 = ½” NPT M = MALE NPT THREAD F = FEMALE NPT THREAD RANGE = SEE BELOW Example: PLV-2F-2F- 1 SET: 80PSI
TECHNICAL FEATURES:
PIC Pressure Limiting Valves are also called over-load protectors or gauge savers. The PLV cuts off pressure rising above the desired pressure value (pre-set value) thus preventing failure of pressure gauge or instruments and also stops possible damages such as hazardous leakages and explosions etc.
The Pressure Limiting Valve or gauge saver shuts off the system with quick and positive action of built in push-rod device. As and when, the pressure falls below the pre-set pressure value, the line and/or the pressure gauge will be automatically put into operation again.
The PLV is of extreme importance and necessity for the protection of the pressure sensitive instruments against over pressures, sudden line induced pressure surges which are principal causes of the instrument and subsequent system failure. The PLV can be supplied to function at different cut-off pressure values on special request. The repeat accuracy of the unit depends on the rate of pressure rise. However, an accuracy of ± 10% of the set pressure may be expected.

DIAPHRAGM SEALS
Diaphragm Seals are designed for use in applications where chemical compatibility, trash or sludge in process or sanitary requirements prevent the use of a standard pressure gauge or gauge only installation. Diaphragm Seals consist mainly of an upper housing, lower housing and a separating diaphragm. These components can be selected and made of different type materials for better compatibility with the end process. Diaphragm seal assemblies can be made and selected with different types of Pressure instruments, instrument connections, process connections or types of seals. It is important to know as much about the application as possible so that the correct specifications are used when selecting the diaphragm seal assembly.
Below you will find some of the information you will need to know to properly select a diaphragm seal assembly.
PIC stocks, fills and calibrates complete diaphragm seal assemblies. We can supply materials of construction, connection types and sizes, and fill fluids suitable for almost any application you run into! We can typically assemble, fill and test standard gauges and diaphragm seal assemblies from our stock in 1-2 days. Please call with your inquiry.
When specifying, ordering or requesting quotes for diaphragm seals – Be ready to answer the following questions;
ABOUT THE APPLICATION What type of instrument is required? (Pressure Gauge, Transmitter or Transducer, Pressure Switch or other) What is the process in contact with the seal? What else is important for this application?
ABOUT THE DIAPHRAGM SEAL What materials of construction are required for;
Upper Housing? Diaphragm? (Wetted Parts A) Lower Housing? (Wetted Parts B) Gaskets or O-rings (If applicable)? Bolting or Plugs (If applicable)?
What type of connections is required for; Instrument Connection? Process Connection? Flushing Connection (If applicable)?
What size (and rating) connections are required? Are there any special requirements for this application? (Flushing Connection, Clean-out Ring, All Welded Design, Sanitary or Special Cleaning, Capillary System or Other)
ABOUT THE FILL FLUID What fluid is compatible with your process? (Fill Fluid needs to be compatible with process as a safety concern in case the diaphragm ruptures) What Special Conditions will the fill fluid be subjected to? (High Temperatures, Low Temperatures, Wide Range of Temperatures, Long Capillary Lengths, Etc.)

Diaphragm seals are designed for use in applications where sanitary conditions and cleanliness, trash or sludge in process prevent the use of a threaded pressure gauge or diaphragm seal installation. These seals are designed for quick removal, cleaning and re-installation without the use of tools. These diaphragm seals consist mainly of an upper housing, and a separating diaphragm. This type of seal is available in 316ss in sizes from ½” through 2” tri-clamp connections. diaphragm seal assemblies can be mated with different types of pressure instruments. Due to the type of clamp used pressure ratings are limited so it is important to know as much about the application as possible so that the correct specifications are used when selecting the diaphragm seal assembly.

701LDS MOLDED GAUGE/SEAL This innovative new product was developed to solve many common problems associated with polymer type diaphragms seals. Due to the all molded design the gauge cannot be removed from the seal, preventing loss of fill – And There is no chance of cracking the upper housing by over tightening the gauge. This product is also molded of a harder blend of polymers – making them more resistant to cracking or breaking during installation.

Fill fluids should be selected carefully considering their physical properties at the extremes of the ambient and process temperature to which they will be subjected. Fill fluids must also be chemically compatible with the process fluid to avoid potentially hazardous reaction in the event of a bourdon tube or diaphragm failure. Typically, hydrocarbon based fluids must not be used with strong oxidizers such as oxygen, chlorine, hydrogen peroxide or nitric acid. For these special applications, inert liquids such as Fluorolube® or Halocarbon® are available. Diaphragm seal fills should not be diluted with or contain water. The presences of water in filled systems can cause gross inaccuracies. Notes:

‘G45’ GAS ACTUATED THERMOMETERS
Precision Instrument Company gas actuated thermometers combine mechanical instrument technology with reliable gas filled capillary tube and bulb assembly. The thermometer transmits temperature readings via expansion of the inert Gas used inside the bulb through the capillary and displaying the temperature on a dial type indicator. The result is a remote reading thermometer that requires no external power allowing temperature indication where it is convenient for the user. SPECIFICATIONS ACCURACY ±1% of range span. DIAL - white coated aluminum with black markings. POINTER - slotted adjustable type permits "zero set" calibration. 2 ½”Dial TRIDICATORS
These instruments have been designed to indicate temperature and pressure in a single unit. With a price that makes this an affordable option for applications where bronze internals are suitable for use, the use of a single ‘tridicator’ saves time during installation, amount of piping required and of course saves money versus using separate gauges and thermometers. The primary applications for these are hot water boilers and water heaters.

1. All of our pressure gauges are manufactured to be in accordance with ANSI B-40.1-1985.
2. Each gauge is individually tested and calibrated during the assembly process.
3. Although each gauge is individually tested, they are not individually traceable to NIST Standards and therefore not Certified as a standard of production.
4. If certification of accuracy is required independent testing against a known and traceable standard (i.e.; a certified dead weight tester) will be required. This typically carries additional fees and charges – Please contact our sales department for more information.
5. If certificate of conformance is required we can typically supply this from our facility with minimal cost and time involved – Please contact our sales department for more information.
Although all of our gauges are manufactured and tested to be accurate and
in calibration, rough handling during shipment may cause pressure gauges to be ‘knocked out’ of calibration. This can happen even though good packaging practice was used. The American National Standard on pressure gauges (ANSI B40.1), recognizes this by including the following paragraph: “CAUTION TO USERS: PRESSURE GAUGES CAN BE RENDERED INACCURATE DURING SHIPMENT DESPITE CARE TAKEN IN PACKAGING. TO INSURE CONFORMANCE TO THE STANDARD GRADE TO WHICH THE PRESSURE GAUGE WAS MANUFACTURED, IT SHOULD BE CHECKED BEFORE USE.” Gauges received ‘off zero’ because of shipping damage can usually be brought back into calibration by a simple pointer adjustment. Please make sure your customers are aware of this information.
