Architecture Difference between

platforms: VMware: pure proxy model; ESXi

host cannot be the proxy (no accessible service console)

Hyper-V: the host itself can be the proxy; option for off-host proxy to offload processing from Hyper-V

Simple architectureOn-host: Veeam Backup Proxy local service on Hyper-V server is used to make backups. Proxy is located in Parent Partition. It’s sort of an equivalent of Virtual Appliance Proxy for VMware’a.

Advanced architectureOff-host: additional physical server connected to production storage is used as Veeam Proxy. Production Hyper-V infrastructure is not affected by working backup. This is equivalent of Direct SAN access mode for VMware.
