RACING INSTRUCTIONS
Each series will consist of 3 races. In the event of un-
favorable weather, the race will be sailed the following day
which will in turn eliminate some of the team.races.
NAYRU (1957) rules Shall apply with the exception that the
bow rather than mast line will be used for both the start and
finish.
COURSES
The courses will be either GOLD CU? or WINDWARD~LEEWARD as
the Race Committee may determine. The Gold Cup course will con-
sist of a triangleg The yachts start with a beat to windward,
followed by two reaches on the remaining legs of the triangle;
rounding the starting buoy at the end of the first circuit of the
triangle, and again beat to the original weather mark, and the
final leg from that weather mark to the finish line at the start-
ing point.GEORGE CUP will be 18 mile courses:
Gold Cup-3mlles per leg; W/L - h.5 miles per leg.
ALARM and TEAM races will be 12 mile courses:
Gold Cup~ 2 miles per leg; W/L- 3 miles per leg.
Where possible all starts will be to windward.
SIGNALS
The Race Committee boat will fly a white flag at all times,
and will designate the course to be sailed in the following manner
at least five minutes before the warning signal, and the red or
green flag will be hoisted at the same time:'

before hoisting of the next, Attention to each signal will

START AND FINISH
The starting line will be an imaginary line between the
home mark of the course and e second mark set between that mark
and the Judges' boatc The Judges' boat will lay far enough
away from this second mark so as to allow boats to maneuver
before end after the starting aign l. A yacht shall be coneid~
ered as starting or finishing when the foremost fixed pert of
the beet crosses the starting or finishing line. When the
Judges' boat is on the finish line, code flag F will be displayed and the line will be between the course mark and the white
flag on the Judges' boat.

RECALL
The Race Com ittee will endeavor to notify a yacht or
yachts starting prematurely by sounding a sharp blast of an
horn for each yacht recalled, and make every attempt to callout the sail number of the yacht or yachts involved. Failure
to notify a yacht of her premature start, Shall not relieve
her of the neceosity of making a proper start.
POSTPONEMENT
The hoisting of code flag P means that the race is post~poned until later. The warning signal will be made thirtyseconds after the flag is lowered. Postponment periods willbe not lese than 15 minutes. »
TIME LIMITS
The time limit for the GEORGE CUP will be M hours.
The time limit for the ALARM and TEAM races will be 3 hours.
SHGRTENING OF COURSE
`
The time limit notwithstanding, should the committee
boat display code flag S subseqosnt to firing 2 guns at anymark of the course, the race will be finished at that mark.
PROTESTS
A yacht wishing to protest must promptly display a flag(red or white) in her rigging, and also notify the Race Com-
mittee of her intention when oroasing the finish line.
Immedlete1y'upon returning to the RYC club house, a written
protest must be filed with the Race Committee on forms to be
obtained from the Race Committee. All Qecisions of the ace
Com ittee shall be final.

POINT SYSTEM
One point for finishing; plus one point for each_yacht
beaten; plus one/quarter point (except in GEORGE CUP) for the
winning boat in each race. Any boat not starting in the first
race shell not start in any subsequent rece of that series.
Ties shall be broken by "horse racing" except in the GEORGE CUP
where a sail off is required between the tied boats to determine
the winner._
INSPECTION OF BOATS
Each boat shell be required to have at least one approved
life jacket for eech person aboard,
CERTIFICATES
GEORGE CUP contestants must have updated certificates"
SAIL NUMBERS
Any boat using numbers other than those showing on page 8
of this booklet, shall report sail number to the RACE COMMITTEE
boat preferably before the committee boat leaves the dock. The
Rene Committee must acknowledge such a change,
TEAM RACES
Team racing rules shall be those of the NAYRU rules
for team racing.
MARKS
Course marks are bamboo poles with red flags flying from
the end (assuming there is wind).

Floating cans and bottles are not generally considered
