Welcome to the 8th Sanderson PTO Local Goods Catalog

One day a parent of Sanderson Academy children asked why don’t we sell local goods instead of fundraising with a catalog of items from China? The answer is this catalog highlighting the impresive skills and talents of folks in our region. We are grateful to all the vendors who have embraced this project. A portion of each sale is donated to the Sanderson PTO. An angel marks those generous vendors who are donating 100% of their proceeds to the PTO projects. Funds from the catalog sales support our Afterschool Enrichment Program that has provided classes on cooking, Spanish, outdoor skills, magic, babysitting certification, soccer, baseball, wrestling, football, drama and art. Some funding has been used to provide an all-school field trip to see a performance at the UMass Fine Arts Center and for classroom enrichment items such as a Lego Robotics Program and a kiln for the Art Room. This year’s fundraiser will be used for Early Release Day Programs and to help off-set the costs of a before-school exercise program along with school enrichment items. The sales also benefit our local businesses, farms, and artisans. In the last 7 years we have generated over $125,00.00 in sales with over $40,00.00 supporting the PTO. Thank you to all who purchase goods from our local vendors and make this possible. Enjoy!

Thank you to our generous sponsors who help defray our printing costs.

Tasty DelightsSouth River MisoSouth River Miso is the only unpasteurized, certified organic miso available that is entirely handcrafted in the centuries-old Japanese farmhouse tradition. The central

and unique feature of our process is the long, slow cooking of the beans by wood fire for nearly 24 hours in a massive masonary stove. Our time-honored methods bring out the full flavor, rich texture, and dynamic digestive power of miso as it was known before the advent of modern food processing.

Three Year BarleyThree Year Barley Miso is one of our most popular varieties because of its rich, hearty flavor. It is aged for at least three summer seasons. In macrobiotic circles, this variety is often recommended for healing diets. Its color ranges from dark pumpkin to russet as it ages.

T40 ............................................... $13.25

Hearty Brown Rice MisoDark, and nourishing, this miso is wonderful in soups, stews, and casseroles. It contains all the depth and power of the Three Year Barley Miso with the extra sweetness of brown rice. Black soybeans are also known for their rich sweetness and for their healing properties. Aged for a minimum of three summers.

T41 ............................................... $13.25

Chickpea Miso Made with the sumptuous chick pea instead of soybeans, this variety brings a balanced, sweet flavor to the table.

T42 ............................................... $13.25

Sweet-Tasting Brown Rice MisoSweet, savory, and highly versatile, this caramel colored miso works well in light soups, salad dressings, and marinades.

T43 ................................................ $11.00

Azuki MisoWe believe this to be the only miso on earth made with the small red azuki beans, which are highly regarded for their nutritional and healing properties in Oriental medicine. Burgundy in color, this delicate miso is ideal for seasoning light soups, bean dishes, sauces, and dressings.

T44 ............................................... $11.00

Chickpea BarleyInstead of soybeans, we use the Chick Pea, staple of Middle Eastern peoples since ancient times, and one of the most easily digestible beans. Like its Three Year Barley cousin, this miso has a rich, hearty flavor with a well rounded taste. Aged for a minimum of three summers.

T45 ............................................... $13.25

Sweet White MisoWith its sweet, gentle flavor and smooth, creamy texture, Sweet White Miso has a low salt content (4 %) and a very short fermentation time (three weeks). It is delicious in spreads, dips, sauces and salad dressings, or for seasoning light soups.

T46 ............................................... $11.00

Garlic Red Pepper MisoFresh garlic and Turkish red pepper paste are combined with Chick Pea Miso for this warming, mildly spicy variety. Festive orange color. A touch of nettle greens and sea vegetables adds to its immune strengthening, healing properties. Aged for a minimum of three months.

T47 ............................................... $13.50

Dandelion Leek MisoIn April we gather Wild Leeks (Allium tricoccum, or Ramps) and cook them along with Dandelion greens, dried nettles, and Maine coast sea vegetables. Then these are hand chopped and mixed with Hearty Brown Rice Miso and Sweet Tasting Brown Rice Miso (already aged for three months). This mixture is then aged for one full summer.

It is signed and dated on the back and ready to hang.Scout Cuomo is an abstract impressionistic artist living in Buckland. Much of her work delves into the power and mystique of water.
