Southpaw ShooterSenior transfer D.J. Brown has been one of Texas State’s best
three-point shooters this season. Brown is second on the team in made three-pointers with 33. He has shot 35.9 percent from deep this season, best on the team.
Feb. 7 at UALR, Brown was the team’s top shooter, go-ing 3-of-6 from deep in the second half for 11 points.
Earlier this year he made the game winner in double OT at home vs. UALR, giving the Bobcats a 77-74 win.
Putting In For OvertimeTexas State set a school record on Jan. 8 with its second straight double-overtime game. The Bobcats beat both Georgia State (Jan. 5) and UALR (Jan. 8) by the exact score of 77-74 in double OT.
Following Jan. 8, Texas State became the first team in Sun Belt Conference history to play back-to-back double overtime games.
The only other school in the country to do so this season is Radford who has also played back-to-back double OT games, having lost both (Jan. 3 and Jan. 8).
Last season, Drexel played back-to-back triple OT games, winning both vs. Alabama and Cleveland State. Long Beach State played back-to-back dou-ble OT games in 2008-09, splitting both.
Road WarriorsTexas State started the Sun Belt season strong, going 2-1 on its opening three-game road trip, marking the first time the team started 2-1 on the road in league play since 2009-10.
Texas State beat the No. 13 team in the College Insider Mid Major Poll, Geor-gia State 77-74 in double OT on Jan. 5, snapping the Panthers’ 18-home game win streak, the ninth longest in the country at the time.
Long Range ShooterEthan Montalvo had a coming out party against Troy on Dec. 30. Montalvo led the Bobcats with a career-high 20 points including 6-of-9 from three-point range.
He helped break the Bobcats’ five game losing streak with a 15-point performance at South Alabama on Feb. 4. He has come on in conference play, averaging 10.9 points per game, second on the team.
Against Georgia State, Montalvo hit back-to-back threes at the end of regulation to help the Bobcats force OT.
Great DefenseThe Bobcats held Georgia Southern to 40 points, marking the 18th time in Danny Kaspar’s career he has held a team to 40 points or less.
The Bobcats have now held four opponents to 40 or fewer points in the last two years, after previously not holding an opponent to under 40 since 2003-04 when the team held Nicholls to 37 and Texas Lutheran to 39.
The 24.4 percent from the field by Texas Lutheran was the lowest opponent field goal percentage since Kaspar came to Texas State.
Cam I AmJunior forward Cameron Naylor has impressed during his first four games of the season. Against Howard Payne he scored 18 points and added 16 rebounds. He was the first Bobcats to achieve both milestones in the same game since Tony Bishop in 2010.
He had 18 points on 9-of-16 shooting at Georgia State, followed by another 18-point performance at Arkansas State.
Over his last five games, he is averaging 9.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, highlighted by a 12 point, eight rebound performance against Appalachian State. He has grabbed at least eight rebounds dur-ing each of those five games.
For the season, Naylor is averaging 8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
All-Conference PerformerJunior forward Emani Gant was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Second-Team, and is living up to the hype this year.
His latest accolade came at Georgia State when he hit a straight away three-pointer at the buzzer of the first overtime to tie the game at 69-69. It was Gant’s first three-point attempt of his career. He then poured in a career-high 22 points vs.
South Alabama.
Gant has two double-doubles this season, along with be-ing named the Elgin Baylor Classic MVP with 17 points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Second All TimeDavis made his mark on the defensive end last season. Davis held Jelani Hewitt who was 7th in the country in scoring to 10 points. Davis picked up a season-high seven steals against ULM, one off the school record and has 168 for his career.
Below is where Davis stands all-time at Texas State.

Best in Decades• The Bobcats’ 10-5 start this season was the best for the program since 1998-99, when the team began 11-5.
• Texas State won its Sun Belt Conference opener, marking the first time its won its first conference game of the season since the 2010-11 season against Northwestern State.
• This year also marked the first time that the Bobcats have opened the season 2-0 against two Division I opponents since the 1998-99 season when the team beat Wis-consin-Green Bay and Baylor.
Suffocating Defense• During the first half of the conference opener at Troy, the Bobcats held the Trojans scoreless for the final 11:35 of the first half, causing Troy to go 0-of-13 from the field.
• The team followed it up by holding Georgia Southern scoreless for an 11-minute stretch in the first half as well and then high powered Georgia State to just 19 points in the first half.
• This season the Bobcats have allowed under 20 points in a half nine times this season, and nine of the 10 fewest scoring halves under Coach Kaspar have come this season.
Below are the fewest points allowed in a half under Kaspar.
Getting It Done With Offense As Well• Texas State showed it could also be proficient offensively along with its defensive prowess, scoring a season-high 81 points on a season-best 60.4 percent (29-of-48) from the field against Prairie View A&M. The team also scored 82 vs. South Alabama.
• The shooting percentage vs. Prairie View A&M is the highest since March 14, 2013 in the WAC Tournament against Denver.
Amongst Country’s Elite• Texas State is currently the No. 24 defense in the country, allowing 59.5 points per game, following its 43 point performance at South Alabama on Feb. 4.
In non conference, the Bobcats held No. 8 Texas to 59 points in Austin. It was the first time Texas has been held to under 60 points on its home floor since scoring 59 against No. 22 Oklahoma State on Feb. 9, 2013.
• The 31 points allowed to Texas Lutheran was the lowest by an opponent since allow-ing 19 to Abilene Christian in 1957.
• With the 39 points given up to Howard Payne in December it marked the first time since 1952 that Texas State has allowed fewer than 40 points in back-to-back games since giving up 35 to Texas A&M Kingsville, and 27 to Sul Ross.
