Improving your orthodontic skillsFulfilling your orthodontic potential.

Beyond the limits: TADs (Temporary Anchorage Devices).

The application of mini-implants as anchorage has totally expanded the range of orthodontic therapy and simplified the treatment of difficult malocclusions. In some situations, the mini-implant achieves surgery-like effects without the risks and expense of surgery. The author will emphasize on whole arch distalization with mini-implant direct anchorage.

Damon is an excellent orthodontic system.

Damon system brackets have proven efficacious in the alignment of severely crowded malocclusions within a short time. The Damon system has enough play of finishing archwire in the slot, there are MEAW (Dr. Young Kim’s Multiloop Edgewise Arch Wire) effects of Damon system, at the finishing stage of treatment. It means in Damon system, without complicated wire bending can do difficult tooth movement like MEAW to solve difficult Class II, Class III, open bite and asymmetry.

The author will present how to incorporate these two techniques into daily practices. The use of these ideas will improve the quality of therapy and bring a new level of satisfaction to those who use them.

Dr. Dimitrios MavreasDoctor Dimitrios Mavreas is currently a Clinical Professor at Vrije University in Brussels, Belgium, and maintains a private practice in Athens, Greece. He is also affiliated to the Hellenic Craniofacial Center, Athens, Greece, treating craniofacial anomaly and cleft patients. In addition he holds a PhD degree from the University of Athens, School of Dentistry, Greece.

He has worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Orthodontics in Aarhus, Denmark. He has published numerous articles in various orthodontic journals. He has been lecturing extensively on the Damon system and various other topics.

The Damon System and Class III treatments

Class III malocclusion has a prevalence of approximately 1% in white populations but it may reach up to almost 15% in Orientals. When treatment in the adolescent or adult age is sought, it usually consists -especially in more severe cases- of a combination of orthodontics and orthognathic surgery. In milder cases camouflage treatment that implements a combination of extractions is usually suggested.

The aim of this lecture is to present the theoretical background of the Class III malocclusion, and show how to treat Class III cases without resorting to any of the above solutions but rather using the advantages of self-ligation and more specifically of the Damon System to produce results that are very difficult to achieve with conventional methods. Various types of Class III malocclusion treatments will be presented and the pitfalls of those treatments will be explained.

Dr. Timothy Bandeen and his wife, Dr. Emily Bandeen, have used Insignia as the standard of care in their office for over 7.5 years. With an in-depth review of practice data, he will demonstrate how Insignia has provided a reduction in total treatment time with fewer appointments while maintaining quality of treatment results. The patient experience is significantly improved through greater efficiency combined with fewer detailing adjustments while adjustments are also of lesser magnitude. He will share concepts of how to implement Insignia effectively with discussions of how to overcome common challenges of both technique and mindset.
