What is a Word Processing?

Word processing is the creation of documents using a word processor. It can also refer to advanced shorthand techniques, sometimes used in specialized contexts with a specially modified typewriter.

What is a Word Processor?A word processor is a computer application used for the production (including composition, editing, formatting, and possibly printing) of any sort of printable material.

CharacteristicsWord processing typically implies the presence of text manipulation functions that extend beyond a basic ability to enter and change text, such as automatic generation of:● batch mailings using a form letter template and an address

database (also called mail merging);● indices of keywords and their page numbers;● tables of contents with section titles and their page numbers;● tables of figures with caption titles and their page numbers;● cross-referencing with section or page numbers;● footnote numbering;

MS(MicroSoft) Word

Microsoft Word lets you type, edit, design and save texts in documents. To make your document more creative, you can also change your texts’s colors, size, style, etc. You can also add pictures, tables, graphs, etc in your document.

Microsoft Word InterfaceMS Word offers different features in creating and editing their documents. These features are located in different tabs.

Creating New DocumentMS Word allows you to open, create and edit more than one documents.

Typing TextsThe main function and use of MS Word is to allow you to type texts in the document.

Saving TextsSave allows you to save your work during or after editing your document. The file will be saved according to your choice of folder in the computer.

Viewing Print Version of the DocumentPrint Preview gives you a preview of the document after printing it. It allows you to have some revisions of the document if you do not like how your document looks upon printing.

Printing the DocumentMS Word does not only allows you to create and edit the document, but it also allows you to print your document. You can also change some settings in printing - whether to print all the pages or only to print some specific pages; whether to print the document in black and white or in color, etc.

Activity:

1. Open Microsoft Word. Click on Start ► All Programs ► Microsoft Office ► Microsoft Word or double-click on the Microsoft Word shortcut on the desktop. This will open a blank document in Microsoft Word.

2. Before you start typing your poem, it’s best to save your work now so you’ll just hit the CTRL + S keys once you’re done. To save the document, click the Save Button.

3. Upon clicking the Save Button, the Save As Window will appear. Choose a File Destination and a File Name for your document then click Save. You can simply click CTRL + S to save your changes the next time you wish to save the document.

4. Type in your Autobiography. Autobiography is the writing of the description and narration of your own life where you yourself is the author. In writing your autobiography, you can include your basic information such as your name, birthdate, birthplace, name of parents, name of brother/s and sister/s, name of school, favorites, and etc. You can also write some of your experiences such as going abroad or happy moments with family or friends. You can write anything about you.

5. Save your File. After editing your poem, save your finished file by clicking CTRL + S.
