Honourable Collector of Sambalpur Mr Hemant Kumar Dash inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest. Many eminent speakers were invited as resource persons to deliver their talks in this workshop that dealt a vital issue of the present day scenario and particularly as regards to the girls-the most neglected section in the male dominated society. On the first day of the workshop, Dr Sadhu Charan Panda Associate Professor Community Medicine of V.S.S. Medical College and Hospital Burla, Mrs. Geetanjali Mahapatra CDPO Urban Sambalpur, Mrs Jhanu Swain Programme Officer and senior staffs of district social welfare (DSW) section were present to address the gathering. Inaugurating the workshop the District Magistrate & Collector of Sambalpur Mr Hemanta Kumar Dash said that girls have equal role in the society like that of the boys. Their necessity for the family, for the society and the country as a whole is more than that of the other sex. Hence, they must be given due care and importance without waiting for the law. But when their rights would be violated, law will be in place and there would be very stringent action from the administration since they must enjoy equal privilege like that of the boys, the Collector said. On the second day Prof. Deepak Kumar Behera Head of the Department (HoD) of Anthropology and MSW of Sambalpur University, Prof (Dr) Rashmi Pramanik of Department of Anthropology and Prof Samarendra Mohanty Dept. of Sociology were present. Another orientation programme also was organized in BTI on 6th September for Aided NGOs. The workshop was inaugurated by member of State Social Welfare Board Mrs Arati Panda. The resource persons were Mrs. Tanmaya Pradhan C. A., Mr Prasant Sahu DGM BISWA, Mr Raghunath Mohapatra and Mr M Swamy. The orientation programme was formally closed by the Collector of Sambalpur Mr Hemant Kumar Dash. Mr M Swamy proposed the vote of thanks to all participants. Rural Marketing Awareness Training at Charmal Laxmipriya Micro Enterprises Pvt. Ltd (LMPL) successfully conducted a one day awareness programme on Rural Marketing at Charmal Branch in Sambalpur district recently with sole objective of creating awareness among the Women self help groups (SHGs) for livelihoods promotion through small business development. 25 SHG members participated in the event including Branch Manager, Area Coordinator, Community Organizers and prospective SHG Vendors from Charmal branch area under ‘BISWA’ operation. Mr Sashwata Prusty Branch Manager of ‘BISWA’ Charmal branch welcomed the participants and introduced the programme objectives among them. Mr Ramesh Chandra Das, Manager- Faculty from Laxmipriya Micro Enterprises Pvt Ltd imparted programme deliveries on the thematic inputs on Laxmipriya's retail marketing strategy through SHG Sale outlets for livelihoods promotion of the rural weaker sections, role & responsibilities of the staff personnel involved in the marketing process, facilities from ITC/Laxmipriya Micro Enterprises Pvt Ltd for implementing such retail outlets in remote villages and profit sharing methodology, discussion on circulated terms & conditions with agreement formalities to undertake the project, method of households consumer survey and their commodity need analysis in prior to submitting indent and action plan to start the business at the earliest etc. All the participants were made to learn about the income generation and rural employment creation process as well. They were provided all logistic supports for participating in the event. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Mr Ashok Kumar Dehury, Area Coordinator of Charmal. BISWA's Relief Operation at Koraput flood affected families of Guali village in Koraput district got the direct benefit from BISWA's relief operation. ‘BISWA’, besides other daily needs, supplied Sarees, Lungi and Blankets to the villagers as they lost everything during the rain and flood. It is obvious for the locals as well as the villagers to appreciate the noble gesture of the organization. The District Administration also highly acclaimed the charity of BISWA to the Everyone is aware of the flash flood at Koraput last month due to the depression in the Bay of Bengal causing heavy rainfall. The result being thousands of people of Koraput and also from most parts of Southern Odisha had to suffer the pinch of the torrential rain and many were rendered homeless. To stand by the people during their crisis, ‘BISWA’ at the request of the local administration came forward and supplied things mostly in shape of kind that they urgently needed. 75 Continued ... Pg.3
