This map is the first broad research of ES LABS, a research company dedicated to collect and analyze relevant data about the health sector in Brazil and Latin America, providing cardinal market information for visionary decision makers. ES LABS is a EmpreenderSaúde company.

Brazil has 200 million inhabitants, it's a US$ 2.2 Trillion-GDP economy, being the 7th largest economy in the world.

The first map of Brazilian Healthcare Startups was created from a survey conducted in June and July of 2012, where 261 health startup were contacted and 45 (17,2%) answered.

3/4 of the respondents were digital health startups, 3/4 were in the state of São Paulo and 1/2 in the city of São Paulo.

The results were:
- 60% have received an investment, with 20% receiving more than 250k (US$).
- More than 1/3 were bootstrapping companies, with only 1/4 (25%) of them having more than 500k in revenues.
- 10% receive venture capital investment, with 3 companies with non-disclosed amount.

The main startup and invested companies were:

Netcom and ePrimecare, both invested by Confrapar
Saútil, invested by Vox Capital
MinhaVida and Pixeon, invested by Intel Capital (Pixeon was also invested by Riverwood Capital)
PegaPlantão, invested by Papaya Ventures
HelpSaúde, invested by Astella Investments and Kaszek Ventures
Bionexo and MV, invested by Insight Venture Partners
Natue, invested by Project A Ventures
YepDoc, invested by Rocket Internet

72% of the companies have 3 or less founders
more than 1/3 were started in the past year (2011) and almost 3/4 of Brazil's health startups were started in the past three years (2008-2011)
40% were B2B business models
40% said they have several sources of revenues
Apart from Zoc-Likes, they are doing very differents things.
