Green Take Home Folder •  Parent-Teacher communication is essential to supporting

a student effectively. With that in mind, First Graders have a Daily Green Take Home Folder.

•  Please check this folder for notes, homework, and the Green Elementary Summary Card, every school day. If a child has received a signature on the Summary Card, a parent must sign/initial that day.

•  Please remind your child to show your teacher any notes when they arrive at school so information is not overlooked.

Email •  To email your teacher, you simply need to type their

[email protected]. E-mails are returned regularly, but not necessarily before the end of the school day. If you have any urgent information for your child’s teacher, (for example, a change of plans for going home) please call the school office to leave a message.

Habit 1 — Be Proactive You're in Charge I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking. Habit 2 — Begin with the End in Mind Have a Plan I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school’s mission and vision. I look for ways to be a good citizen.

Habit 4 — Think Win-Win Everyone Can Win I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives.

Regular school attendance is vital to each student’s educational success. It is important that we work

together for the success of each student.

School hours 7:45 a.m.- 2:55 p.m.

•  Students must be inside the building prior to the 7:45 late bell ringing. •  Students who arrive at school between 7:50 a.m.-8:10 a.m. will be marked

“late/tardy”. •  Students who arrive after 8:10 a.m. will be marked as a “partial day” absence

which is considered unexcused.. •  Students who leave school prior to 2:40 p.m. (without excuse) will be marked

as a “partial day” absence. •  Students who leave school after 2:40 will be marked “left early” .

Favorite Asked Questions… What is considered an unexcused absence? Any full-day absence without a signed note from you or the doctor. Students arriving after 8:10 a.m. for the day will be marked with an unexcused partial day absence without a doctor/parent medical note. Students who leave school prior to 2:40 p.m. without excuse will be marked with an unexcused partial day absence. All late arrivals (i.e. tardiness) are unexcused without a medical note from a doctor. A note or email does not excuse late arrivals. Multiple late arrivals may be subject to disciplinary action. If your child’s absence for personal illness exceeds five consecutive days, you must have a doctor’s note to excuse the absences.

Are family vacations unexcused? Family vacations are considered an unexcused absence per AISD policy.  How many days are allowed to turn in an excuse? A note must be sent to school within three school days of when the student returns to school.

What happens if my child receives multiple unexcused absences? When a student receives three or more days (or parts of days) within a four-week period or a total of five unexcused days (or parts of days) within a 6 month period, you will receive an attendance letter from the school and truancy prevention measures will be implemented (i.e. student attendance behavior improvement plan). When a student receives 10 or more unexcused whole or partial day absences within a six-month period, it is in violation of compulsory attendance laws. If a student establishes a questionable pattern of absences, the attendance committee may determine parent notes to no longer be accepted; only doctor/school nurse notes will be accepted.

•  Please remember that you can have lunch with only your student. We have reserved the stage area for you to have lunch with your child. Friends will not be able to join you on the stage unless their parent is with them.

•  If someone other than the parent/guardian is coming to lunch with the student, the parent/guardian must sent in a note approving the visitor. Phone calls for this will not be accepted for the safety of students.

•  Please make sure to provide forks, spoons, napkins, and straws from home, if bringing a lunch. The ones provided in the cafeteria are for those students purchasing a lunch.

Birthdays•  Birthday’s on WGRN: We will be celebrated

weekly birthdays on Fridays. Each student will not be called up one by one, but instead we will play a birthday song to let the students know they need to come down to WGRN. They will come down and we will pan the camera over to the birthday students for them to wave “hi” to their classmates, siblings, and friends. The students will also receive a birthday pencil. We wanted to continue to take time to celebrate, while we preserve the instructional time for students.

•  Birthday Invitations-If you send birthday invitations to school, please include one for everyone in your child’s class. If your child is a boy or girl, they may also pass out invitations at school if they invite all of the girls or all the boys from their class. If you want to send an email invitation, you may send it to the teacher and she can forward it out to the parents. However, we can not share parent emails due to the FERPA laws. If you want to be selective with who your child invites, please send those invitations from home to prevent hurt feelings.

•  If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at school, please bring enough treats for the entire class. Please do not send in editable treats due to food allergies. Pencils, stickers, small trinkets are a few examples.

•  Balloons and gifts are not allowed.
