description of tHe meetingPrimarymalignant spinal tumors, i.e. vertebral sarcomas are inherentlyrareentities.Despitetheirimportanceclinicalstudiesandscientificinves-tigationsofspinaloncologyhavelaggedbehindsimilarworkonstudiesoftheextremities.Theresultingdeficitofoncologicalinformationhaslonglimitedprogressinthetreatmentofspinaltumormanifestations.Vertebralcolumnandsacralsarcomashavelongbeenthoughttobeeitherinope-rablebyenblocexcisionoratleastverydifficult inattainingtumor-freemargins.Toreducethedrawbacksofintralesionalsurgeryandtoimprovesurvival times,different techniques forwide resectionsat the spine, i.e.singleormultilevelenblocspondylectomieshavebeendeveloped. From the surgical perspective it is becoming increasingly clear thatfollowingresectionsofspinalsarcomas/solitarymetastaticlesionsthereisatremendousprognosticsignificanceofthemargin-statusforlocalandsystemiccontrol.Thus,aclearneedexiststoincreaseunderstandingofvertebraltumorlesions,therebyfacilitatingdevelopmentofnewmethodstoadvanceresectiontechniquesandtoimproveoutcomeofspinetumorsurgery. To help meet this need we firstly organize the cHArite spine tumor dAys – a twoday symposiumof spinal tumor surgery thataddresses the techniques and problems of oncological resections forvertebraltumorlesions.
