Accepting my offer from

Skadden was easy, given

what the firm offers

ambitious and aspiringlawyers. Several factors

influenced my decision.

First, the global nature of the firmmeans that trainees, and indeedvacation scheme students, areexposed to a higher calibre ofwork at a much earlier stage.What this exposure results in isa faster learning curve compared

to your peers, at a stage in yourcareer when getting the bestexperience possible mattersgreatly.

Secondly, the professionalopportunities available to traineeseven before starting work furtherheightened my desire to join thefirm. At the vacation schemeinterview I learned about the

possibility of working in anotheroffice over the summer holidays;sure enough last summer nearlyall of my intake were scatteredbetween New York, Paris,Los Angeles, Moscow andWashington, D.C.

The ability to make professionalconnections and work withlawyers in other offices is an

integral part of the Skaddenculture, and will undoubtedlyprove to be of high value when

I start to work with these samepeople in the future. It was alsointeresting to see how the large

network of international officesworks together seamlessly, asit is common for more than oneoffice to collaborate on the sametransaction.

Finally, despite the collectivesize of the firm, the Londonoffice is relatively small incomparison giving your workenvironment a collegiate and

fun atmosphere. During myvacation scheme I learned thatthe size of the London officemeans that you will matteras an individual and are ableto contribute meaningfully, asopposed to being one cog inthe wheel of hundreds of younglawyers. Not for a moment haveI so much as questioned mydecision to accept Skaddens

offer, and I unequivocally believethat it was the best decision Ivemade in my budding professionalcareer.

placements extremely

important to those candidatesinterested in securing a

training contract at Skadden.

We have designed our twoweek placements to allow

you a closer insight into

our working culture and

environment, as well as

gaining first-hand experience

of live transactions. There is a

distinct emphasis on having

our placement studentsinvolved in as much real and

relevant work as possible. You

will be offered the chance to

request the dates on whichyou would like to attend as

well as two practice areas you

wish to experience.

You will be assigned both anassociate and trainee solicitor

mentor who are tasked withallocating work assignments andproviding support and feedbackthroughout your placement.Our placement students areinvited to attend our bespoketraining courses as well asdepartmental meetings and firmpresentations.

We also arrange a number ofsocial events for you to attend

during your placement, offeringyou a chance to get to knowyour peers as well as Skaddenpartners and associates on amore informal level. Examplesof events last summer include:a night at Ronnie Scotts JazzBar, a private capsule on theLondon Eye, an exclusive tour ofStamford Bridge Chelsea footballground and a screening of The

Importance of Being EarnestatRegents Park open air theatre,in addition to several dinners andparties at our partners homes.

Our work placements are fortwo weeks and take place overEaster and during the Summermonths. We offer 300 perweek to assist with expensesand we are happy to help with

the sourcing of accommodationfor those who require it.

For consideration, candidatesneed to have reached the

penultimate year of a lawdegree or the final year of anon-law degree. In exceptionalcircumstances, we will offerplacements to penultimate yearnon-law students.

We hold open days in Januaryand February as a means ofselection for both our Easter andSummer work placements and

we welcome your application.
