METHODOLOGY: On Wednesday, November 28, The Commercial Observer sent an email out to more than 100 real estate professionals, seeking names and headshots of female professionals for its first annual Women in Real Estate issue. In an attempt to create as comprehensive a list of female professionals as possible, we asked only that all submis- sions include head shots and several pieces of information, including each person’s title, number of years with their current employer and a few biographical notes. As a result, over the next eight days, we received submissions not only from direct employers, but from peers and col- leagues alike. We also received names from all areas of the real estate industry, including legal practices, accounting firms, architects, the ownership community and, of course, New York City’s vast expanse of commercial brokerage companies. With these prerequisites in mind, the preceding pictorial should not be considered an accurate reflection of a company’s gender equation as much as a snapshot of the city’s commer- cial real estate industry as of December 2012. Indeed, some companies chose to sit out this exercise altogether while others took pains to submit entire rosters of female employees.
