WELD PROCEDURE SPECIFICATIONS
(WPS):FORM QW-482
This presentation is to help you understand
the variables on the WPS form QW-482
As you review this presentation ,make sure
you have a printed copy of your QW-482
form .The idea is that as you look at eachslide, you look at the corresponding area on
your QW-482 form

Remember . it does not matter if a variable is essential or non essential
when producing or reviewing a WPS, ALL variables should be addressed.
It is only when a variable is being taken outside of its qualified range that we
need to know if it is essential or not because this will determine if a new
procedure is required.
The text colour shows whetheran entry on the form (for
SMAW,GTAW,GMAW or SAW)
is an essential,supplementary or
non-essential variable

Sketches, Production Drawings, Weld Symbols or Written Description should show the general arrangement of the parts to bewelded. Where applicable, the root spacing and the details of weld groove may be specified.
(At the option of the manufacturer, sketches may be attached to illustrate joint design, weld layers and bead sequence,
eg for notch toughness procedures, for multiple process procedures etc)

Refer to Electrical characteristics (QW- 409) which says:-
(Amps and volts range should be recorded for each electrode size, position, and thickness, etc.this information may be listed in a tabular form similar to that shown above).
In fact the WPS assessment in the exam will only contain one filler metal for a single welding
process so this section should not be required.
