Already BREAKing into the Oil & Gas industry with our world leading 4” Spill Prevention Coupling, our next objective was to come up with a similarly impressive Breakaway coupling. There are already well established products out there so we had to come up with a new idea to tackle some of the issues with our competitor’s designs.

The main issue was how we could improve the function of this weak-link breakaway concept. After consulting with our contacts in the industry we found a main problem with these couplings was the restricted flow due to the shut-off mechanism being in the centre of the bore of our competitor’s products.

Next was the aesthetics, one of the benefits of our CleanBREAK range are the sleek, ergonomically designed outer profiles and the new Safe Breaking Couplings fit in perfectly with this.

Our unique design eliminates the problem of restricted flow by having the poppet shut-off mechanism parallel to the hose and to the side of the bore. This results in considerably higher flow and minimal pressure drop throughout the coupling.

The 164mm unit is available with a 4in connection and is suitable for high flow rates.

Shand pioneered the use of swaged couplingtechnology for use in RTP pipelines and have

been working closely with customers to developsuitable couplings for more than 12 years.

To date Shand have probably manufacturedmore couplings for this type of pipe system than

any other manufacturer with an enviable zeropremature failure rate in service.
