1986 : World Cup Football Championship, Mexico Aſter 10 years of discussion and planning by Jules Rimet the President of the French Football Associaon, the world cup finals commenced in Uruguay in 1930. Thirteen teams travelled from different parts of the world to contest the first world cup compeon. FIFA decided to name the cup aſter all the work done by Jules Rimet and called it "Jules Rimet Cup". The cup was solid gold 30 cm, high, and it weighed just over 4 kg. In the 1930 final, Uruguay beat Argenna by four goals to two. In 1934 and in 1938 the compeon was run on a knockout basis and in 1934 the U.S.A., Argenna and Brazil travelled all the way to Italy for one match. Between 1950 and 1978 sixteen teams were involved in the finals to enable each team to play more games. In 1982, in Spain, finals involved twenty-four teams for the first me. Italy won the 1982 compeon beang West Germany in the final by three goals to one. The Jules Rimet cup was played for unl 1970, when Brazil having won it three mes, was allowed to keep it for ever. The new FIFA trophy is solid gold, 30 cm high and is simply called the "World Cup." Malawi took part in the preliminary round of the 1982 world cup on 29th June, 1980. Malawi reached the second round of the 1986 world cup on 7 April, 1985. In the first leg, Malawi lost to Morocco in Casablanca and on 21 April, 1985 drew with Morocco in the second leg played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. After 10 years of discussion and planning by Jules Rimet the President of the French Football Association, the world cup
