1986 LADY TIGER OUTLOOKThis year's team has the potential to be the finest team Coach Diane Hale has ever coached.

With every starter returning, there will be no excuses for this Lady Tiger team which had adisappointing season last year finishing 15-19.

Head Coach Diane Hale enters her ninth year at Memphis State, and is optimistic about thissquad. "There is a lot of talent on this team. With the two new freshmen, and the players we alreadyhave, it should be a real dogfight this year for starting roles."

Leading this talented group is senior Angie Glaub, last year's MVP, and recipient of the ElmaRoane Award. Glaub led the team last year with her 391 kills, and has steadily been the Lady Tigersmost improved player through the years. Two other seniors are the reason Memphis State shouldhave a banner season. Peggy Rule, a setter-hitter led last year's team in attack percentage hitting.239%, and digs with 325 to her credit. The quickest player on the team, Rule makes up for her 5-6height with her 28 inch vertical jump and her aggressive play. Mia Stephens is the other senior whowas depended upon last year for her leadership. Stephens, a setter, finished the year with thehighest setting percentage at .344%.

Three juniors will play important roles this year, as two were starters on last year's club assophomores. Kim Ehrhorn was the Lady Tigers threat at the net last year as the leaper led theteam in blocks with 143. Chelle Penner should be both an offensive and defensive threat forCoach Hale, as she has improved every aspect of her game. Phyllis Richey has also continued toimprove her game, and should add to the Lady Tiger defense, with her solid back court play.

Three sophomores got their feet wet very early last season, as they were depended uponimmediately to contribute. Nancy Wolter, started nearly every game as a freshman, picking upvaluable experience. The 6-0 outside hitter also tallied 127 blocks, which was second on the squad.Shawna Mullins came back strong from an ankle injury which sidelined her for half of the season,to help offensively, while Lisa Eisenrich used her 6-2 height to help at the net, going on to pick uplast year's "Most Improved" player award.

Two signees round out this year's team that is full of depth and talent. Rhonda Kottke, a 6-0middle blocker from New Hope, Minnesota has already distinguished herself as an offensive threatwith her strong leaping ability. Clare Dirksen, is a 5-9 setter from Springfield, Illinois who hasgotten plenty of pre-season praise and has the ability to immediately step in and run the offense.

The Lady Tigers once again will play a tough Metro Conference schedule, intermixed with atough non-conference collection of top twenty teams. Memphis State will once again host the LadyTiger Classic and Memphis State Invitational, bringing in some of the top area teams.
