Four Ministries: What do each of them do? Ministry of Truth Ministry of Peace Ministry of Love Ministry of Plenty

about their society? Why do the women in society bother
Winston the most? Describe O’Brien

Stop 6: Goldstein and the Two Minutes Hate Who is Emmanuel Goldstein?
“He was abusing Big Brother, he was denouncing the dictatorship of the Party, he was demanding the immediate conclusion of peace with Eurasia, he was advocating freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of thought, he was crying hysterically that the Revolution had been betrayed…” (12).
What is the Two Minutes Hate? Eurasia and Eastasia Thought Police
Stop 7: Theory on O’Brien and More of the Two Minutes Hate Orwell’s description of the Two Minutes Hate:

writes “Down with Big Brother”? What is Thoughtcrime and how has
Winston committed Thoughtcrime? Do you think he will be punished?
1984 – CHAPTER 2

“He was already dead, he reflected” (28).
“Thoughtcrime does not entail death: thoughtcrime IS death” (28).
Response to chapters 1 and 2 Choose one of the following topics to
respond to: Analyze why Winston is not certain of the
exact date and how a lack of time-keeping reinforces the Party’s manipulation of history.
Generalize what the film Winston watched says about the Party, how it controls the populace, and how it views its citizens.
Formulate what the Party’s use of “comrade” says about its political tendencies and how this places 1984 in a historical context.
