light or brake light has failed.
The space in a Volvo is wellthought out. The rear seat isideally placed and gives muchmore room than your wouldnormally get in a car of thisclass. And there is also anenormously spacious boot -it's so deep you can packyour cases handles-up.
There are two secrets in thecomfort of Volvo seats: firstthey have been designed byexperts to ensure the bestsupport for your body;second, they incorporate noless than six different rangesof adjustment. Forward and
backwards, backrest angle,head restraint height, lumbarsupport, seat height and seatcushion rake. These are alladjustable to suit you.

The Volvo heating and venti-lation systems ensure cosy
warmth on the coldest of
days. No less than ten outletsdistribute the flow of heatedair or cooling ventilationthroughout the entire passen-ger compartment. Assisted bythe extractor vents below therear window on saloonmodels and on the rear
nearside wing on estates.Air is fed through two de-froster nozzles on top of thedashboard and four nozzleson the front. The two outerones can be swivelled to keep
the side windows clear. Onthe 144 and 145 de Luxemodels, the two centrenozzles can be used to give aperfect blend of warm andcool air - independent of the
rest of the system. This illu-stration shows the 144/145models. On the Volvo 164Ethe system is push-buttoncontrolled. The Volvo 164Eis prepared for full air condi-tioning.Both systems are boosted bya three-speed fan and havethermostatically-controlledheat settings.

Power at its Volvo best.The Volvo 164 E is designed and built for people with impec-cable taste. There are genuine hide seat facings. The driver'sseat height can be easily adjusted and power steering is standardequipment.The engine has an electronically-controlled fuel injectionsystem and gives an output of 175 hp SAE.
There are four engines in the
Volvo power programme.For the 140-series we offer:B 20A 90 hp SAE single
carburettor.B 20F 125 hp SAE Cl-fuel
injection.B 20E 135 hp SAE CI-fuel
injection.All are four-cylinder in-lineunits. The latter two have anew CI (Constant Injection)fuel injection system for morepower and better response.
For the 164 E we offer:B 30E 175 hp SAE electronicfuel injection.
This six-cylinder in-line
engine has an electronically-controlled fuel injection
system which is governed bysmall solid-state computer.
A choice of manual or auto-matic gearboxes, both having

Volvo cars have power-assisted discbrakes all round. The 164 E has speciallyventilated front discs to counteract fade.On all models, the handbrake operateson separate rear wheel drums.
