NEW YORK

Page 4: 1965 - Broadalbin-Perth Central School District

Thomas A. Jennings

Seated behind coach's small wooden desk, alternately chewing and gesticulating with his huge provalone cheese sandwich, he explained the baffling geometric functions amid the tumult of ten or fifteen students. His lunch hour and only free period, he was doing what he liked best--teaching. He has taught most of us and in the classroom, his wit and persuasive manner is engaging and encouraging. He has also been our class advisor. This job includes chaperoning at dances, supervising class monetary affairs, and tactfully suggesting new ways to raise money. He did this and he did more. The West Point trip, the Senior Picnic, the My Fair Lady Trip, and lasting memories of our senior year, were his innovations and successful undertakings. When time lagged, he coached some of us of the bowling, golf, or junior high basketball teams. Besides these things there was an extra, The whole, in this case, is greater than the sum of its parts. We feel that he has a genuine affection for us; he is interested in us and our problems. In turn, we like him. But, as in all truly affectionate relationships, we have alternately delighted and frustrated him; he flashes his infectious smile and scowls his gloomy frown. Always, the stone face dissolves and we are friends again,

We spell his name: warmth, wit, and patience. We give this, that he remember us--we will always remember

him.

Old friends, new stories. New teachers, old teachers. It is good to be back. At least for the first day, it is good to be back.

New faces A name in an August paper is matched to a face in a September assembly. Each has a style we '11 long remember.

Mrs. Riley: "Otra Vez .•. this time a little louder."

Mr. Peterson: "Senior does not mean picnic."

Mr. Aulisi: "So foul and fair a day I have not seen."

Mr. Jones: "Now for our next project we'll have a poster showing .•. "

"

Mr. Fliegel: "rrrrr, in French you roll the R."

Miss Scudder: "O. K. kick the BALL."

Miss Rice: "What do you really think

Whitman is saying?"

Soccer is practice and ...

Soccer

There is no glory in soccer. No cheerleader yell, no fan applause echoes the soccer field. But this does not lessen the desire, competitiveness and combative -ness of the players. Whether practice or game, soccer demands lOOo/o from its participants. It is a rugged game, exciting to play and to watch.

Mr. Hertik: "Use the TOP of the T-square."

As the sun lifts slowly into the sky, hinting at the golden treasure it carries, a burst of outdoor activity blossoms at Perth. The more than casual observer ignores the first robin, the first buds, rather he looks for the first noontime softball games, the cardiganed strollers, and the short sleeve and sleeveless sun worshippers. As the pictures show, like the first robfo, we sometimes rush the season.

The Senior Ball, a gala evening featuring the girls in dazzling gowns and magnificent coiffures, boys in bow· tie and tuxedo elegance, is always the highlight of the year's social calendar. Last year's "Evening in Paradise" was no exception, The metamorphosis of the Perth gym into a lavishly decorated ballroom straining with the melodious sounds of a dance band is always surprising even to the oldest witness of this event. Reigning over last year' s festivities was queen Pat Sollecito, and her regal princesses, Linda Farley and Betty Herba.
