    1. Determining the melody- Melodiesdetermine what chords will be played. If you

    can use your ear to figure out what notesare being played in the melody, you are 1/4on your way to learning a song!

    2.Harmonizing the melody- Once youhave figured out the melody (using some ofmy techniques on the resource page), it istime to harmonize it. This is simply choosingvarious chords to accompany the melody.There are several techniques and tricks todoing this.

    3.Altering Chords - This is the best part!

    Now that you have strategically figured outthe melody to a song and have harmonizedit, altering your chords to produce certainsounds is the next step. If you were playinggospel music, you would alter your chordsdifferently than if you were playing classicalor country music.

    4. Listening- After you have determined themelody, harmonized the melody, and alteredsome of your chords, there are varioustechniques you can use to make sure thatyour song sounds right.
