About the Editors

Willem Hoyng is the Managing Partner of Howrey Europe, based in the Amsterdam office. He specializes in advising on European patent strategyand in coordinating and conducting European patent litigation. In addition, his practice consists of IP litigation, international litigation in general,Dutch Supreme Court litigation, ECJ litigation and EPO oppositions. Mr. Hoyng obtained landmark decisions in the Dutch Supreme Court in amongothers Vredo/Veenhuis, BAT/Doucal and Van Bentum/Kool. Before the European Court of Justice, he has acted among others as counsel forWindsurfing International, Ballantine’s and Philips in the landmark cases Windsurfing International vs. the Commission, Ballantine’s vs. Loenderslootand Philips vs. Remington. He also serves as IP litigation counsel to most Dutch multinationals and many foreign corporations, including majorpharmaceutical and biotech companies.

Mr. Hoyng has written Repair and the Law of Patents and Dutch Business Law and numerous articles in the field of Intellectual Property. In 2002 hewas awarded the Wim Mak award for his article on the use of market surveys in trademark litigation. He is a member of (among others) AIPPI, ECTA,LES and Vice-President of the European Patent Lawyers Association (EPLAW).

Frank Eijsvogels is a partner in Howrey’s Amsterdam office. His practice consists of IP litigation in general. In addition, Mr. Eijsvogels advises on awide range of IP issues, including issues of national and international licensing, and has assisted clients in structuring and enforcing their licensingprograms, including enforcement through European customs seizures. Furthermore, Mr. Eijsvogels has a broad experience in litigating automationdisputes, in drafting and negotiating IT contracts and in advising on a wide range of IT-related issues.

Mr. Eijsvogels has given various lectures in the field of IP and IT law. He is a co-author of a handbook on the Dutch Patent Act. In addition, heteaches patent-law related subjects in the qualification and training course for Dutch patent attorneys and is a member of AIPPI.
