FATHER ROLAND The Bishop has asked Fr. Roland to do some further studies and we learnt this week that he has been accepted into the Catholic University of America in Washington to study Systematic Theology. For those of you who are wondering…..Systematic Theology seeks to understand and render more intelligible the central doctrines of faith and to show how they are related to each other. It tries to demonstrate how these doctrines are rooted in Scripture and develop in the history of the church; most important, it strives to more adequately express and sometimes reinterpret the church's doctrinal tradition, always in the interest of better communicating the mystery of salvation and bringing it into a dialogue with culture. The course is for two to three years and Fr Roland will be leaving mid August to start his studies. Congratulations Roland and all the very best. AFTER FATHER ROLAND HAS GONE At this point in time, I am not expecting that there is another priest available to replace Fr. Roland due to the low number of priests in our diocese. Therefore, over the weeks ahead Fr. Peter and I will be speaking to Bishop Greg, staff and parishioners reviewing how two priests can best serve our parish and what else we might need to put in place for the ongoing pastoral care needs of our parish. holiness in the image of Christ.

proclaim the good news of salvation.

minister within the faith community.

the service of all, particularly those in need.

Dear Parishioners, 130 YEARS I received the new directory for the Catholic Church of Australia this week and it highlighted to me that our parish was established in 1888 and therefore this year celebrates 130 years that our parish has been a part of and has served the catholic and wider communities of this area. Bishop Greg has also encouraged the rest of the Diocese to follow our lead so that we can, as a Diocese, help those affected by the drought. To give you some idea of the costs* involved……

$100 = 1 large bale of hay $9,500 = 1 semi-trailer load of hay $250 = 11,500 litres of water $50 = Hamper for farming families

Again, thank you.

‘He took pity on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd’

So many people in the world individually and in groups, are like sheep without a shepherd, easy prey for those who would take advantage of them and destroy them. Life should not be like this. Everyone deserves to be loved and cared for, but the world is full of sorrow...The world needs shepherds. Everyone needs a shepherd. Without the care and love and protection of a shepherd we will all be lost. We will be vulnerable to those who wish to exploit us for their own selfish and cruel ends. Sometimes people fall through the cracks in society. No one seems to be responsible, and young people and poor people are left to die by the wayside. But we are all involved. I am my brother’s - and my sister’s - keeper. When we see a need it provokes a response in us, a need to help in some way. The Living Word

‘BE THE 7’ – Cornerstones In July the #2 focus of the ‘BE THE 7’ initiative is Cornerstones – the ones who bring unity and peace to the family home through self-giving love. They recognise they play a vital role in ensuring that the dignity of their family is protected and nurtured. July’s event is one for the whole family. Please join us for Mass at 9.00am on Sunday, 29 July followed by a Scavenger Hunt and BBQ (food and drinks for sale) or BYO picnic lunch on the Youth Hub oval. Please RSVP to Vanessa Denham by Thursday 26 July on 0447 992 986 or email [email protected] .

‘Nobody is as powerful as we make them out

to be.’

‘If you are not willing to risk the unusual

you will have to settle for the ordinary.’

St Agnes’ Church and Parish History ... did you know?

Mr B Craven won the tender for the building of

St Agnes’ Presbytery in 1889. He used bricks from

his own kiln made in the Port Macquarie brickfields

(the site of the present Port Macquarie Olympic

Pool) in the construction.
