ST. MARY CATHEDRAL LANSING, MICHIGAN
REGIONAL ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE There will be an opportunity this Advent Season, for communal services to celebrate the Sacrament of Rec-onciliation THIS Sunday, December 15 at 2pm at St. Thomas Aquinas in East Lansing and St. Gerard in West Lansing. Please take advantage of the opportunity for Confession, with so many priests of the Diocese being available.
Prayers With such a large group of Catechumens who will be receiving Baptism and the other sacraments for the first time, we are in need of prayer. God is doing a good work and these people need your prayers to help bring to completion His good work in them. Please add them to your daily and weekly prayers. We all walk together and need help being carried in different ways at different times. Thank you. You are in my prayers. Fr. Karl Pung
SMALL GROUP LEADERS With the approach of the beginning of our common reading of the Bible we wanted to be able to offer the opportunity for small faith sharing groups. Some people work well on their own, others find an experience more enriching when it is shared with others. If you are interested in serving as a small group leader, please contact myself [email protected] or Leisa Fredericks [email protected]. We will provide training.
Lord, give our parish a greater love for the scriptures. Reading the Bible
Beginning the week of Sunday, December 29, 2019, we will start reading the bible together. In the bulletin each week will be the readings for the past week, the current week, and the next week as well
as a prayer to say before beginning your scripture reading. You can read the whole selection in one sitting or you can space your reading throughout the week as best fits your schedule. You will also be able to find on our parish website the schedule for the whole two years. The purpose of our reading the bible is not at this point to study it in detail, but simply immerse ourselves in the scriptures themselves and learn how to be with God in our reading. There will be parts that seem to repeat and others that just seem dry, and still others that make you go, “Whoa, I didn’t know that.” Let this experience be its own thing. Remove any pressure to ‘know more than you seem to be getting.’ What each of us gets, we get. That is one of the beauties of just reading the scriptures for their own sake. In January we will start forming small groups for those who would find walking with others to be helpful. Also I am going to be forming an email list that will put out a brief description when we start a new book of the bible. Please send your email to me if you want to be on that list. [email protected]. Retreat This week I will be away on my annual retreat. Please keep me in prayer. You will be in mine. Seamstresses, Tailors, and Sowers We are in need of people to make Baptismal and Pre-Baptismal garments for all of our children and adults who will be coming into the Church this Easter. Right now we are looking at around 40 people for Baptism. We have a large number of individuals and families from our Burmese community who will be receiving their sacraments. We need people to make garments for all of our catechumens. We will pay for the fabric, but need help with the rest. Please contact Rebecca Kanclerz [email protected] if you are able to help.
KofC CRIB MINISTRY The Knights of Columbus will have a crib set up in the back of church, in the vestibule. This is our annual drive to collect items for Shared Pregnancy. As in years past, copies of a list of most needed items will be nearby. Please help to provide assistance to these parents who are experiencing difficult times. As Mary eagerly anticipated the birth of Jesus, let s bring some peace to the hearts of these struggling parents so they may have a more joyful anticipation of their own children. Most needed items: Diapers (sizes 4, 5, 6) Wipes Diaper Bags Socks (sizes 12mos-3T0 Clothing and winter outerwear (sizes 9mos-2T)
