“The Word of the Lord is light for the mind and a fire for the will, so that man may know and love God … It is a weapon against a heart stubbornly entrenched in vice. It is a sword against the flesh, the world, and
the devil, to destroy every sin.” Saint Lawrence of Brindisi
A Reflection for the Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
In the midst of the darkness, the quaking of the heavens, and the “unsurpassed distress” of the last days, one thing remains to give us comfort: the presence of Jesus Christ. “They will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds.” Christ himself is his Word that “will not pass away.” “The wise shine brightly” in the midst of such darkness by clinging to this Word with full awareness, obedience, and trust. As for Christ, “now he waits until his enemies are made his footstool.” As for us, we trust that he is leading us to justice and to the fullness of joys in his presence. “By one offering he has made perfect forever those who are being consecrated.”

Saint Gertrude the Great November 16, Optional Memorial Gertrude, a Benedictine nun in Helfta, Saxony, was one of the great mystics of the 13th century. Together with her friend and teacher Saint Mechtild, she practiced a spirituality called “nuptial mysticism,” that is, she came to see herself as the bride of Christ. Her spiritual life was a deeply personal union with Jesus and his Sacred Heart, leading her into the very life of the Trinity. www.franciscanmedia.org Saint Gertrude’s special devotion to the holy souls in purgatory has made her a patron of the dead. Catholic tradition says that Jesus promised Saint Gertrude that 1,000 souls would be released from purgatory every time the following prayer is recited with devotion:
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for
all the holy souls in purgatory. Amen.
Souls in purgatory cannot pray for themselves. It is necessary that we offer Masses and pray for them to get to Heaven. When they are released from their sufferings and are in Heaven, the holy souls do not forget those on earth who helped them, and in eternal gratitude, pray for them. Saint Gertrude the Great, pray for us.
Saint Elizabeth of Hungary November 17, Memorial
As a young child, Elizabeth, the daughter of Andrew, the king of Hungary, was sent to the palace of Wartburg in Thuringia to be raised alongside her future husband, Ludwig. She was a prodigy of charity. From the age of fourteen, when she became queen, she served the poor with her own hands. It is said that on one occasion, Elizabeth hurried from the palace with her apron full of bread for the hungry, but was stopped by her angry husband. She opened the apron and a bunch of red roses tumbled out. After Ludwig’s death in 1227, Elizabeth entered the Franciscan Third Order and gave herself wholly to nursing the sick. She died at the age of twenty-four.
St. Mary’s Weekly Wednesday Rosary Group “The Rosary is the most excellent form of prayer and the most efficacious means of attaining eternal life. It is the remedy for all our evils, the root of all our blessings. There is no more excellent way of praying”. ~Pope Leo XIII We are excited to be starting back up a weekly Rosary group! This group will take place every Wednesday, at 9:00 am in the Lower Church and coffee will be served after. It’s “drop in” so come whenever you can - no pressure to commit to every week or rsvp. If you’re new to The Rosary - no worries - we have booklets to follow along with and we will help you. We are a welcoming intergenerational group of Parishioners who love our Blessed Mother Mary and want to spend time in her loving peaceful presence. She is always bringing us closer to her son Jesus. What’s better than that!! Please reach out to Vera Ossen ([email protected]) or Brenda Outwater Mandile ([email protected]) with any questions.

Prayer for the Week of November 14th
Pope Francis’ November Intention
Each year, the Holy Father asks for our prayers for a specific intention each month. You are invited to answer the Holy Father’s request and to join with many people worldwide in praying for this intention. The Holy Father has entrusted these intentions in a particular way to the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, an organization that works to encourage Christians to respond to the Pope’s appeal and to deepen their daily prayer. You can find more information about the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network on their website.

Offertory – Online Giving Due to bulletin publishing deadlines, the offertory numbers are posted with a two-week lag. Our parish income, including offertory and donations for week ending October 31, 2021, netted roughly $5,325. This is below our anticipated budget expectations and falls short of our obligations. ONLINE GIVING remains the quickest and most effective way to accomplish your offertory giving. You can still MAIL your envelopes or checks to the Parish Office. For those attending daily Mass or Adoration in the Lower Church, there is a secure offertory box located outside the doors in the Gathering Room for those who wish to drop off their envelopes or donations.
