OBESITY
OBESITY
OBESITY• A medical condition in which excess body fat
has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems. People are considered as obese when their body mass index (BMI) exceeds 30 kg/m2.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
• Excess body fat • An extremely large waistline • Difficulty sleeping • Heavy sweating • Lack of energy• Pain and soreness in your joints or muscles • Rashes• Varicose veins
DENTAL CORRELATION
• Obesity is also associated with oral diseases, particularly periodontal disease, and prospective studies suggest that periodontitis may be related to cardiovascular disease. The possible causal relationship between obesity and periodontitis and potential underlying biological mechanisms remain to be established.
CLASSIFICATION• Obesity is multifactorial, with genetic,
neurologic, behavioral, and occasionally endocrinologic disorders playing a role.– Lack of energy– Inactive lifestyle–Genes and family history–Health condition–Medicine
