15TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 13, 2014
Dear Parishioners,
Holy Infant Parish is happy to welcome Rev. Emmanuel Luhumbu from the Diocese of Kole, DR Congo (Central Africa) who will be with us next weekend. Each parish in the Archdiocese receives annually a guest speaker/celebrant as a part of the Missionary Plan of Cooperation. For over fifty years this program has sought to enrich the lives of American parishioners by exposing them firsthand to the work of the church in another part of the world.
The Diocese of Kole is situated in a rainforest with two seasons: dry and rainy. There are 11 parishes with a Catholic population of 250,000 which is 35% of the total population. There are presently 308 mission stations scattered throughout the forest area. Many of these are so large that they have to be made independent parishes with a resident priest. In the Diocese of Kole, they have no electricity, no running water, no car for pastoral jobs, no maintained roads, no means of communication, no hospitals and only minimal school education.
The need for churches and trained ministers is great. These people live in dire poverty and infant mortality is high. The Kole Diocese has set a goal to construct more new parishes, each with a new church, rectory and convent. Convents are needed to house the nuns who provide catechetical, education, medical and social ministries throughout this rural diocese. In addition, they would like to provide training in liturgy and provide bibles and catechetical materials for each parish. Their ultimate goal is to make education available for many very poor children from remote villages. This would be made possible by providing them with free lodging and boarding so they could attend schools in larger areas.
Fr. Emmanuel Luhumbu is working as pastor at St. Clair of Assisi Parish in the Diocese of Kole. The parish has 22,000 people, 31 villages and 45 mission stations. He and his associate visit these mission stations on foot. Thanks to the Missionary Plan of the Archdiocese of St. Louis they have been able to built a parish church.
As we know, the vibrancy of the church in Africa is a real boost to the universal church; we are glad to call them our brothers and sisters. There are special envelopes available at the doors of the church and in your collection of envelopes for contributing at Mass next weekend. In addition, for those who contribute online, there is a link on our website for the same purpose. We encourage our parishioners to be as generous as possible to help support the ministry of the Diocese of Kole.
God’s blessings for a great week,

“The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word but then the cares of the world and the lure of riches choke
the word and it bears no fruit.”—Matthew 13:22
Does the lure of riches and material goods choke God out of your life? Are you so caught up in worldly activities and anxieties that you have no time for God? Good stewardship is a lifestyle to be lived every day. It effects all the decisions we make. It’s not just about the time we spend at Mass every Sunday.

The Fall Festival Committee will be holding
a kick-off weekend on July 19 and 20 after all Masses. Committee members will have volunteer sign-up sheets in the vestibule.
This is a great opportunity for members of the parish to volunteer individually or as a family to man a game or ticket booth, help with food, set up or help clean up for our upcoming Fall Festival. It is a great time for our teens to get service hours, as well. Take this opportunity to get your pick of the available volunteer time slots.
We need your help to make this Holy Infant community event a success! Beginning July 21, online signups will be available on the parish website or by using the link:

A DEACON’S THANK YOU
Dear Holy Infant Parish,
Your two newest Deacons would like to express our sincere thanks to Holy Infant Parish for making our recent Ordination and First Mass of Thanksgiving such a wonderful, memorable weekend! There are so many who went way out of their way to make this a special weekend for us.
In particular we would like to mention Father Stanger for overseeing the weekend for us,
especially the First Mass of Thanksgiving and the reception thereafter. We would also like to thank Father Don Anstoetter and Father Chris Dunlap (now pastor at St. James the Greater in Dogtown) for their work behind the scenes, and in cooperation with Father Stanger, to insure that things ran smoothly.
The reception in the upper cafeteria was wonderful! The food was great and all who assisted did
so with love. By the way, Father Stanger made the BBQ - which was very popular with all. We would be remiss if we didn’t thank our families one more time for all of their work and tough,
numerous sacrifices to get us here. They were there from our calling through Ordination and travelled this sometimes-difficult faith journey with us every step of the way. This was as much their weekend as it was ours.
The music during the entire weekend was outstanding! Our Holy Infant Choir performed very well
at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis during the Ordination as well as at the First Mass of Thanksgiving the following day at Holy Infant. Thank you Chuck Chauvin for your effort and leadership.
Thanks, also, for Deacons Ken Clemens, Tom Forster, Al Whitson, and Jim Powers, as well as
Fathers Tim Bannes, Mark Ebert, and Monsignor Thomas Dempsey, for attending the festivities of the weekend with us!
The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard was present for the First Mass of Thanksgiving. They
always add a touch of class to any special Mass – especially this one! There were members from Holy Infant K of C Council #10794 as well as St. Louis Assembly #565 in full regalia. Thank you for attending!
Finally, we would like to thank the parishioners of Holy Infant Parish for their loving prayers and
continuous words of encouragement during this entire journey. You literally “prayed us” all the way to Ordination. Many of you were also very gracious to sit through a beautiful (but long) Ordination and/or attend the First Mass of Thanksgiving the next day as a demonstration of your wonderful support. Your kind words continue to inspire us!
Both of us look forward to serving you in the years to come and we thank you for all you’ve done
and continue to do for our wonderful parish.
In Him, Deacon Dan Henke & Deacon Daniel Raidt
