USED JOB SHACK INSIDER…BEST BUY…

Page 11: 15 may

SALES ASSOCIATE AT BEST BUY - Accepted Offer –May 12, 2013 Interview Details –Applied online, they got back to me within a couple of weeks.Had two interviews, was hired on the spot. Typical questions were asked, nothing that really stood out. The interview process is nothing to be worried about, just know answers to questions like, "When was a time you worked best as a team?"Interview Question –There wasn't a question that was too difficult or unexpected.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CASHIER AT BEST BUY - ACCEPTED OFFER–MAY 12, 2013 Interview Details –You have two sit down interviews with managers they ask standard questions. Why do you want to work here? They discuss the job details.Interview Question –name a time you had to work on a project alone and were not sure how to do it, what would you do--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------COMPUTER SPECIALIST AT BEST BUY - ACCEPTED OFFER –MAY 8, 2013 Interview Details –After applying online and taking that tedious personality assessment, I was first contacted with a phone interview which took about 5 minutes. Simple questions such as: Why do you want to work for Best Buy? What is your availability? Etc. afterwards they scheduled my first interview which was 3 days later with the 2 managers. The interview was approximately 25 minutes of scenario questions which they read from an interview guide. My best advice here is to be as specific and detailed as possible and tie it in to past experience that is similar. They are required to take notes while you talk so don't be alarmed, just answer confidently and you'll be fine. After the interview was over the manager told me that I will be contacted to schedule my final interview with the GM, he said if i nail that one i got the job just be myself and i should do fine.I got a call the next day to schedule my interview with the GM; it was shorter than the previous interview with similar scenario questions but fewer. The trick to this interview is to nail the question on shrink which is very important to the company since it's an ongoing problem which is impossible to fix completely but can be controlled if employees take the right precautions. Basically it'll be a question like "What would you do if you saw another employee steal something?" or "If you were the manager and an employee stole an item what punishment should the employee receive?" You basically have to convey the message that stealing shouldn't be tolerated no matter what in your response. After i nailed that question and answered the scenario questions satisfactorily i was made a job offer but it was contingent upon passing a criminal background check and drug screen which took about a week for them to get the results. Then i got a call for orientation which was just watching a bunch of best buy videos for 5 hours and introductions. The training was just e-learning and shadowing employees for 2 weeks.

Page 12: 15 may

Interview Question –Most of the questions were the same just scenarios questions which i thoroughly prepared for beforehand, but if i would have to choose 1 since i hate to talk about myself and didn't know what kind of answer they were looking for i would have to say "What do you feel are your strengths and weaknesses?"----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SALES CONSULTANT AT BEST BUY - ACCEPTED OFFER –MAY 6, 2013 Interview Details –I had three interviews, first one over the phone. they just asked my availability and what department i would like to work at. Second interview with Department manager. It was a group interview which was a bit easy three questions and manager was very nice. The third interview was with general manager. Basically asked why i wanted to work here and what i would do if i was manager and caught an employee stealing, i said I’d fire him and he was happy with my answer. Then got the job offer in the spot!Interview Question –What is something you had to learn by yourself and how did you learn it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SALES ASSOCIATE AT BEST BUY - ACCEPTED OFFER– MAY 6, 2013 Interview Details –Had two interviews the first interview was with one of the managers or supervisors. Ask pretty easy stuff. Didn't require me to give them a resume or cover letter. As long as you answer smartly dress nice you should be fineInterview Question –Name a time when you failed and how you overcame that failure----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Cashier at Best Buy - Accepted Offer– May 12, 2013 Interview Details –You have two sit down interviews with managers they ask standard questions. Why do you want to work here? They discuss the job details.Interview Question –name a time you had to work on a project alone and were not sure how to do it, what would you do?---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CASHIER AT BEST BUY - NO OFFER – INTERVIEWED APR 16, 2013Interview Details –I applied spring break looking for summer job.Ask the question why Best Buy? Job experience.

What is the hardest customer you dealt with? Do you work as team or by yourself? What pace do you like to work at? What was one time you went beyond for a customer?

Interview Question –What is the hardest customer you dealt with? -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CASHIER AT BEST BUY - ACCEPTED OFFER – MAR 13, 2013Interview Details –I applied online with a referral from an employee of 4 years. After getting through the online "test" my application was forwarded to the store. I was asked to come in for an initial interview, and as it was one of my first jobs I was nervous and did not interview well (oh well, my fault). I was asked to come in for a second interview and sat down with the store's General Manager (a genuinely nice guy) who was unable to offer me a spot in the position I wanted (PC Sales) due to my lack of sales experience but offered me a cashier position with the possibility of moving up (as Best Buy hires in-house first for nearly all positions).Interview Question –The questions were pretty standard. Some tricky ones like "what would you consider your greatest weakness" but nothing too bad.

Page 13: 15 may

A huge tip is to not mention salary/money at all in the interview process, if you get offered the job you can negotiate then, but the company looks for new hires with the motivation to do good work. If you're motivated by money Best Buy is not for you.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CASHIER AT BEST BUY - ACCEPTED OFFER – REVIEWED MAR 12, 2013Interview Question – Describe your previous jobs, what you liked and disliked about them, and compare them to Best Buy.

Scheduled an interview for the next day. I got there 15 minutes early and so the manager decided to start early. She asked about 5 questions. The generic ones like tell me about yourself, why goodwill and strengths and weaknesses. Then she brought in her assistance to ask me if i had a car and if I was punctual and those sorts of things. The interview lasted about 30 minutes. Both interviewers were extremely friendly which helped. They also made it evident that they were understaffed and even though I knew they were interviewing others they made me feel like I would be hired. I was called like 3 hours after the interview to inform me that I had the position.Interview Questions

Why Goodwill? What are you strengths and weaknesses?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SALES ASSOCIATE AT GOODWILL - ACCEPTED OFFER – MAR 6, 2013Interview Details –Easiest interview I've ever been on. The manager was new and nervous, so he didn't really ask me questions. He told me about Goodwill's mission and then asked me what my past work experience is, and if I had experience in retail. I don't, so I said no. I then asked a few questions, which he appreciated. I then got a tour of the backrooms and he described what goes on in each section. All the employees seemed friendly, but just a note: Goodwill hires a variety of people, including disabled people (physically and mentally). So if you are uncomfortable with that, I would suggest not applying or interviewing. After the tour, the manager said he would call later that day to set up an orientation time/date. The interview literally lasted for 30 minutes, most of which we talked about personal things.Interview Question –Have you ever worked in retail before?----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PRODUCTION ASSOCIATE AT GOODWILL - ACCEPTED OFFER – MAR 4, 2012
