USED JOB SHACK INSIDER…SAFEWAY…

COURTESY CLERK AT SAFEWAY - ACCEPTED OFFER – AUG 8, 2013 Interview Details – Very relaxed, perfect if this is your first interview experience. Where I applied the interviewer did not require my resume but it's probably best to bring it anyway to show that you are in fact serious about the job. I suggest being absolutely honest and to be yourself. Interview Question – N/A (all questions were very basic)

Page 10: 15 aug 13 NEW JOB BOOK: 15 Aug 2013 HERE ARE THE NEW DAILY SPECIALS

Negotiation Details – There was no negotiation. I scarcely knew I was being hired until the interviewer began telling me what hours and tasks she had in mind. --------------------------------------------- DELI CLERK AT SAFEWAY - ACCEPTED OFFER – AUG 6, 2013 Interview Details – I applied online, then went in 2 days afterward and handed them my resume. I was called back in 2 days and it wasn't an interview like the others I had been on recently. In fact, the entire process took less than 10 minutes. Because it is a Union store, there was no negotiating for a starting salary. Interview Question – There were no questions other than my availability, which was nothing like any of the other interviews I had been on recently. I thought that was a bit odd. --------------------------------------------- COURTESY CLERK AT SAFEWAY - ACCEPTED OFFER – AUG 6, 2013 Interview Details – I dropped my resume by the district office for northern California to give my resume directly to the hiring managers. They gave me a call 1 month later for an interview near the start of August. The interview was quick, easy, and friendly. Then they gave me a job offer on the spot, told me to fill out paperwork and then take a cotton swap drug test. Interview Questions

• What 3 items would you suggest a customer get along side a birthday cake? • Why do you want to work at Safeway?

--------------------------------------------- BAKER AT SAFEWAY - ACCEPTED OFFER – AUG 6, 2013 Interview Details – The hiring process was pretty simple. They asked a few generic questions, but it was clear that they only cared about two things. One that I was responsible/reliable and two being that I would be willing to work a grave yard shift. I was hired within 10 minutes of the interview and spent the rest of the time filling out paperwork and doing a background check and drug test. Interview Question –

• What would you do if you were in a conflict with a co worker? • How would you resolve the conflict without it affecting your work?

---------------------------------------------- NIGHT STOCKER AT SAFEWAY - ACCEPTED OFFER – JUL 26, 2013 Interview Details – It's always about who you know. Interview process was fairly simple. It wasn't a formal interview by any standard... I talked with the manager for a little while and an assistant manager for about 30 minutes and afterwards they had me fill out a paper with some common interview questions on it. After that it was smooth sailing.

Page 11: 15 aug 13 NEW JOB BOOK: 15 Aug 2013 HERE ARE THE NEW DAILY SPECIALS

Interview Question – The most difficult question if you can call it that would probably have been

• Give an example of a time when you settled a workplace dispute? Negotiation Details – Make sure you get to at least talk with some of the people you're going to be working with before you start so you don't end up having trouble. ---------------------------------------------- COURTESY CLERK AT SAFEWAY - ACCEPTED OFFER – JUL 13, 2013 Interview Details – I applied online on the Safeway website. After a week, met with the store manager to discuss the status of my application. She got my name and would call Human Resources to setup an interview with me. I got a call the next day; being offered an interview tomorrow. My interview was at a different Safeway than the one I applied to. I met with the store manager in her office in the back of the store. She was very nice and polite. At first, she asked me simple yes or no questions like, "When can you start," and "what hours can you work". I had a good feeling I was going to get the job already. Then she asked me more in-depth questions. Afterwards, I was offered the job and did a drug test on the spot. Interview Questions

• Discuss a time where you had a disagreement with someone and how you worked it out?

• Discuss a time where you had to help a disabled person. • Why Safeway?

MEAT MANAGER AT SAFEWAY - ACCEPTED OFFER – JUN 12, 2013 Interview Details – There is only one interview for this position. It is with the meat field merchandiser, store manager, and an HR representative. Straight foreword interview questions. Salary is about 45,000 plus bonus if the store and department qualify. Interview will normally last about 30 minutes. Business dress code. They will generally hirer from inside the company, but outside the company does get hired if they are knowledgeable. Interview Questions

• Where do you plan to be with Safeway in 5 years? • Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult situation and

how you dealt with it. • What are your strengths? • What are your weaknesses? • What can you get out of ______ piece of meat?

---------------------------------------------------- COURTESY CLERK AT SAFEWAY - ACCEPTED OFFER – JUN 7, 2013 Interview Details – I was called after a week of turning in my application online. They wanted me to come in for an interview right then, and seemed insulted

Page 12: 15 aug 13 NEW JOB BOOK: 15 Aug 2013 HERE ARE THE NEW DAILY SPECIALS

when I said I was unable to. We scheduled the interview for the next day, and the girl who interviewed me was very nice but seemed much more nervous than I was. The questions were your basic questions, and I didn't have much to respond with, with this being my first job and first interview. They didn't offer me the job, but did a drug test right there and had me fill out paperwork and was told to come back the next day. I was never officially offered the job, so I was unsure if I was coming in to work or for a second interview. Turns out I was hired and was coming in for training. Very quick and not very structured. -------------------------------------------------- GROCERY CLERK- BAGGING, DELI, FLORAL, PRODUCE, MEAT DEPARTMENT AT SAFEWAY - Declined Offer – Jun 4, 2013 Interview Details – Working at a grocery store is as pleasant was working at a grocery store. You're either going to love it or hate it. You much know this before interviewing for this job. Management will always have a smile on their face when in the presence of customers. It’s when they pull you in the back, or call you to their office, that you see their real personalities. The main thing management wants from you is to please the customer any way possible. Don't just point to where something is, walk them there. Interview Question –

• Do you plan on staying with us and moving up into management? • Or do you have other future plans in mind?

Sales Associate at Payless Shoe Source - Accepted Offer – May 11, 2013 Interview Details – I applied online. After two days I called in to inform them that I applied online. They took my name and number down and said they would call me the next day. I waited the next day; no call. Four days later, I got a voice mail asking if they could interview me. I called them and told them that I had school during those hours and we rescheduled. When I came to the store for my interview, the manager was out on lunch. I waited about 10 minutes before she came back. While I was waiting I had a conversation with one of the workers. She said she likes working at payless. After 10 minutes the manager took me to the back and told me a lot about herself. She seemed really nice. She then proceeded with asking me question that was pre-printed for her. She told me that she has interviewed a number of people and she hoped I was the one. She told me she would call me if I was hired or not. After 2 weeks, she called me asking if I can take a drug test. I told her I would. She then told me that she would call me the next day to tell me where to take my drug test. The next day she didn’t call. Weeks later she called provided the information. I passed the test and 5 days later she called me for training. INTERVIEW QUESTION –

• What is the biggest mistake you have made in your previous job? • How did you handle it?

Negotiation Details – The most negotiating we did was about working on Sundays. She said that if I were to get hired, I would need to work at least one Sunday a month. I agreed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate at Payless Shoe Source - Accepted Offer – Apr 23, 2013 Interview Details – Filled out an application online: it was very confusing and time consuming.
