Today, believe it or not, Fort Bend County senior cizens, most over 65 and living alone, are having difficulty providing themselves with a steady supply of food and experience some degree of hunger, according to Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels. Hunger can strike at any age, but many people are not aware of the devastang effects it has on our senior cizens. More than 17% of seniors in Texas are threatened by hunger (Source: Meals on Wheels America 2018) More than 38% of seniors on the Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels program live alone (Source: Fort Bend Seniors MOW Client Survey 2018) These stasc clearly shows there are sll current unmet needs amongst our senior neighbors, and this need will connue to grow! Many of our county and city officials will aend this annual fundraiser joining forces with Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels. Together we will shine a spotlight on the growing problem of senior hunger right here in our own backyard. As our senior adult populaon grows, we all have a tremendous opportunity to help improve the situaon, so we, too, have joined forces with Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels.
