local business and funeral director has cometo fruition. Strayer Funeral Home at 1840E. Fifth St., Delphos has opened its doors toserve the community in times of need.

Owner Mike Birkmeier and FuneralDirector Brian Strayer will welcome thepublic from 2-4 p.m. April 20 and 21 totour the new facility and enjoy some lightrefreshments.

This has been in the works for sevenyears, Birkmeier said. I saw the need foranother alternative for those who lose lovedones and in the past, this community hasalways supported two funeral homes.

Strayer has been a funeral director for 18years and says its his calling.

I originally went to school to be ateacher and after a year, it just didnt feellike a good fit, Strayer said. I went backto school and got my bachelors degree atmortuary school and then started workingat it to hone my craft. Its really up to eachperson how they do things.

Birkmeier said he admires Strayers field.It really is an art to do what he does,

Birkmeier said. Working with the deceased

and the family and all aspects of preparingfor the last tribute to a loved one takes aspecial person.

Strayer has found the career to be veryfulfilling.

It is rewarding to help the families. It

experience to help folks get through theprocess, Strayer said. We want them tofeel like they are at home as much as pos-sible. The family can be here for 6-7 hoursat a time.

Each chapel has its own portable TVwith a stand for videos and a state-of-the-artsound system to overlay requested musicduring visitation and services. The familiesare also provided magnetic picture boardswith various sized frames to display photosof loved ones.

The funeral home has 118 parking spac-es, including 8 handicap-accessible spaces.
