13 Reasons Why Parent Advisory We feel it is our job to equip parents with the most up to date and relevant information possible for the safety of our students. We believe there is nothing more relevant than the new Netflix series - “13 Reasons Why”. You may have already heard your teen talking about the series, or this may be new news to you, but we believe this series starts a large conversation about mental health, suicide, substance abuse, sexual abuse, and bullying. This advisory is not to necessarily advise students against watching this series, but to equip parents with resources. We want to guide parents with the best practices in how to follow up with your teen, and how to participate in the conversation. We Suggest the Following: 1. Preview the series before allowing your child to watch it. 2. If you do find the material suitable for your teen - consider watching it with them. 3. Continue the conversation. Talk to your kid about the subject matter being presented. Create a safe, judgement free area for your student. 4. Reach out for help if you believe this show has had a dramatic affect on your child.
