The road is likely to be opened to traffic in July next year. Work on the tunnel was started on May 23, 2011. The tunnel, connecting Chenani in Udhampur with Nashri in Ramban district, is being completed at a cost of over Rs 2500 crore. It will also reduce the existing road distance between two points on the highway from 41 km to 10.89 km. The NHAI is also constructing a parallel escape tunnel along with the main tunnel for evacuation of commuters in case of eventuality. There was a time whenpeople thought that it wasnot necessary to educategirls. Now we have begunto realize that girls’ educa-tion is essential. The mod-ern age is the age ofawakening of girls. Theyare trying to compete withmen in all spheres of life. There are many peoplewho oppose girls’ educa-tion. They say that theproper sphere of girls is thehome. So, they argue thatthe money spent on girl’seducation is wasted. Thisview is wrong, becausegirl’s education can bringabout a silent resolution inthe society.Importance of girls
Education:
There is several advantageof girls’ education. Grownup educated girls can playan important role in thedevelopment of their coun-try. They can share theburden of men in the differ-ent walk of life. They canserve the society as teach-ers, lawyers, doctors andadministrators. They canplay an important role dur-ing war.Education is a boon to girlsin this age of economic cri-sis. Gone are the days of
plenty and prosperity.Now-a-days it is difficult forthe people of the middleclass to make both endsmeet. After marriage, edu-cated girls can add to theincome of their husbands. If a woman is educated, she can earn a living afterthe death of her husband.Girls’ education is neces-sary for making our homeshappy places. Our homelife would be brightened ifwe had well-educatedwives and mother.Educated girls can bright-en the future of their coun-try by the good upbringingof their children. Educationgives a woman freedom ofthought. It broadens heroutlook and makes heraware of her duties andresponsibilities.Suggestions: Many peoplesay that girls should not goin for degrees. They are wrong, becausegirls have already provedtheir worth in all walks oflife. There is no reasonwhy girls should not getthe same kind of educationas men. But they shouldnot neglect their duties atthe home. So, girls musthave knowledge ofdomestic science andchild psychology.
Importance of Girl’s Education
India is a country known for its richtradition, culture and values. Weare known all over the world forour great music and dance forms. In fact our God of dance is ‘Natraj’and our most flirtatious LordKrishna is also known for his ‘RasLeelas’. Before we perform anyform of Indian dances we pray tothe lord of dance ‘Lord Shiva’,Shiva known for the magnificentTandav. But inspite of our dancegods being all male dancersIndian men are shy to dance, theyfeel that dance is not for men orwhat you hear most often ‘RealMen do not Dance.’But is this true is the question. What makes us men feel that wehave two left feet. Is it our upbring-ing or is it the society we live inand are morns and myths. Mostmen who go to a dance class areeither looked down upon or aremade to feel that they are doing a‘Girlie thing.’ Who decides if it’s a‘Girlie thing’, I am sure Lord Shivaand Krishna did not feel so when
they began to dance.Today with the western danceforms getting popular, maledancers are getting out of theirshell and stepping into their danc-ing shoes. But do they still facecriticism and emotional lecturesfrom families before steppingonto the dance floor of a class. With my experience of teachingdancing to thousands of studentsin India, I would say ‘Yes.’Even today when a boy walksonto the dance floor first questionhe asks is ‘Will I be able todance’, ‘Is it very difficult’, ‘I amhere because my ladylove wantsme to dance.’ These questionsmake me feel that we men doubtour learning capabilities. But justthe effort that he has taken tocome to a class makes me feelthat there is HOPE.Many men feel that it’s theupbringing that makes them thinkthis way. From a very young agethey are made to stay away fromdance and dancing stuff.
Their parents tell then to go outand play various games andsports without being aware thatsome form of western dances likeLatin and Ballroom are a part ofOlympic Games. Later some oftheir male friends discouragethen from dancing saying onlygirls learn to dance. But do theyrealize that best way to woowomen is on the dance floor, andit’s a great way to share an emo-tional bond. Like cigarettes andcoffee breaks gets peopletogether, dance is also anotherform that creates great bond.Today men are showing greatinterest in learning variousdance forms, mainly becausethey want to impress girls, butwhen they take it up seriouslytheir wrong attitude changes andthey start to learn dance for thesake of self pleasure and expres-sion. I am sure that soon themyth ‘Real Men do not Dance’ willbreak one day and we will see‘Men do the Real Dance’Dos and Don’ts of starting todance:Do not worry about what theworld will think, just follow your
heartJoin a good dance class (depend-ing on what style you are inspiredto learn)Be open to learning new stepsand hand moves.Once in class, initially one feelsshy to dance, so do not botherabout that, remember all yourbatch mates are new dancersIn case you are not getting thestep, relax, ‘Rome was not built inone day’Dress correctly (clothes andshoes) for the class, it is veryimportant to feel right.Make friends in the class and goout dancing with them, you willlearn more watching others dancetooPractice what you learn daily, remember ‘practice makes oneperfect’Understand the mood and atti-tude of your dance, try to bring itout in your body language, remember ‘Dance expression ismost important’Use your dancing skills to makenew friends and not to show offyour skills to others, ‘a show offdancer does not go a long way’.
Do Real Men Dance?

Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s(VHP) international presidentAshok Singhal has demand-ed a nation-wide ban on cowslaughter. He emphasisedthat protection of cows arenecessary for the nation’sprogress and said “by ban-ning cow slaughter India willbecome a Hindu nation by2020”. BJP government inGujarat demolished hundredsof temples in the name ofdevelopment and Rajasthantoo followed the same policy.Modi, the ‘so called’ Hinduicon, had changed his toneand has randomly startedappeasing Muslims. However, some Hindu radicalgroups stuck to beef ban andare connecting it with nation’sprogress. The idea of ahimsa seems tohave made its first appear-ance in the Upanisadicthought and literature.Gautama Buddha andMahavira had vehementlychallenged the efficacy of theVedic animal sacrifice. Thus, although both Buddhism, and, to a greater extent,Jainism contributed to thegrowth of ahimsa doctrine, neither seems to have devel-oped the sacred cow conceptindependently. The practiceof flesh eating and killing cat-tle for food was customaryright through the Gupta peri-od and later is sufficientlyborne out by references to it
found in the Puranas and theEpics. Strange but verified, most of the characters in theMahabharata are meateaters. Draupadi promised toJayadratha and his retinuethat Yudhisthira would pro-vide them with a variety ofgame including gayal, sam-bara and buffalo. It’s interesting to note thatAyurveda provides an impres-sive list of fish and animalsand speak about the thera-peutic uses of beef.Somesvara shows clear pref-erence for pork over othermeats. Similarly, theDharmasastra commentariesand religious digests from theninth century permit beef inspecific circumstances. Mostconsider this as a disapprovalof the cow slaughter andmeat eating in general.Others put it in the context ofdemons and evil spirits(Yātudhāna) stealing the cat-tle and the milk, and mentionthat the beef eating was com-mon in the Vedic times.Though alternative transla-tions by Swami DayanandaSaraswati reject such claimsand give the ‘correct’ interpre-tations and translations in thelight of the Brahmanas andVedangas. According toDayananda and Yaska, theauthor of Nirukta (VedicPhilology), Yātudhāna meansCattle -eaters (Yātu – Cattle /flesh of Cattle + Udhāna –eaters/ consumers). Multiple
Rigvedic verses, contain ref-erences to the slaughter ofcattle, horses and other ani-mals, as well as meat eating;however, translation is debat-ed and doubtful. The AtharvaVeda bans only the eating ofthe raw flesh and the humanflesh. The Yajurveda men-tions Ashvamedha or thehorse sacrifice, and evenPurushamedha or the humansacrifice (Yajurveda (VS30–31)). The Purushamedhaor human sacrifice was purelyritualistic, and there is noproof of a human ever beingsacrificed.Eating any meat is a subjectof personal preference whichcomes under theFundamental right affordedby the Constitution of India. As per the Constitution, whenit was written post India’sIndependence, the beefslaughter was written into theconstitution as a state sub-ject; that is, every state canexercise its right to ban orallow cow slaughter. I mustremind you that this ban or noban of cow slaughter is onlyfor trade. Even in a bannedstate, one can kill a cow andeat its meat and share it withothers without trading it formonetary gain. This is part ofevery citizen-of-India’sFundamental Right guaran-teed by the constitution, which cannot by banned byany legislative body like theparliament or assembly.

India currently has two permanent stations, Maitri atSchirmacher oasis and Bharati in the Larsemann Hillarea located ~1000km east of Maitri. The first Indianstation, Dakshin Gangotri, located on shelf ice isnow buried and lost. Earth science and related activities have constitutednot only an integral but an unbroken part of Indianexpeditions. Globally the scientific progress andstate of the studies in earth sciences is reviewed ina gathering of all polar nations at an interval of fouryears in the form of International Symposium onAntarctic Earth Science (ISAES). A total of 11 suchsymposiums have been held since 1963. Antarctica is recognized as a heritage of mankindand as mandated by the provisions of the Antarctictreaty, signed by 29 consultative parties, no com-mercial activity is permitted in Antarctica and itsenvironment and all claims to its territory are frozen. The scientific programs of this natural polar labora-tory are designed and approved by the ScientificCommittee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) which hasa President and two to three vice-presidents and asmall secretariat located at Cambridge, England. The science research programs are proposed andco-ordinated by three standing scientific groups(SSG’s) on Geosciences (GS), life sciences (LS)and physical sciences (PS) each having three chiefofficers. ISAES symposium at Goa represents truly an inter-national effort with participation from nearly 40countries of around 400 scientists nearly equallydivided between the overseas and the Indian partic-ipants. The deliberations through over thirty ses-sions in five days are expected to lead to consolida-tion of the status of scientific studies and provideguidance for future research. Of particular interest isthe nature of sub-ice rocks as 98% of Antarctica iscovered by ice with an average thickness of ~2000mand large areas of continent are not accessible todirect observation. This information is crucial to pre-dict the behaviour of melting of ice which in theeventuality of complete melting is estimated to leadto the global sea level rise of ~60m. It is only oneexample of the significance of studies on Antarcticscience. Both the atmosphere over Antarctica aswell as the ocean surrounding this southern conti-nent has strong influences on global weather pat-terns and ocean currents which directly affect themankind. The two-way interaction between the global andIndian polar scientific community is expected to leadto reinvigoration of Indian Antarctic programs.

ISISPakistan has decided against call theMiddle Eastern terrorist outfit by its“Islamic State” preferred name andinstead refer to it as “Daesh”, an Arabicacronym the group hates.“I would refer to the outfit as Daesh asthere is nothing Islamic about it,” foreignoffice spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said inreply to a question at his weekly mediabriefing. The foreign ministry previously had beenusing both IS and Daesh in its statements.French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabiuswas among the first leaders who avoidedcalling the group with its preferred nameand US and Australian leaders followed. There have also been calls by Muslimscholars to call the group Daesh in amove to de-legitimise it.
The group likes to be called Islamic Statebecause it negates the concept of bordersand promotes a vision of one Muslimcaliphate. It also suggests existence of acentral authority instead of roving groupsof mercenaries. Daesh is an Arabicacronym for “Al Dawla al Islamyia fil Iraqwal Sham”, the group`s original name, which when translated, means “IslamicState in Iraq and Syria” or “Islamic State inIraq and the Levant”.But the group feels offended when it iscalled Daesh and threatened to cut thetongues of those who used it. Daesh hasnow become an insult in Arabic and wasused to refer to extremists, who can evenkill to impose their belief on others.Pakistani officials have always denied theexistence of the group in the country, buthave said they were on alert against itsemergence. A number of extremist groupsin the country have expressed their loyal-ty to the group which is trying to establisha foothold in Afghanistan.“Pakistan has alerted its security agenciesto the threat posed by Daesh. Our author-ities are vigilant and have been advised totake necessary action in this regard, ifrequired,” Khalilullah said.
It is Daesh, not Islamic State, for PakistanA stampede during a charity handout in Bangladesh leftat least 23 people dead as hundreds of desperately poorpeople tried to get their hands on free clothing, policesaid. The stampede in the northern city of Mymensingh erupt-ed when crowds of people tried to force their way into afactory compound through a small gate after massingoutside before dawn, according to local police chiefs.Television footage from the site showed scenes of utterdevastation, with hundreds of torn and blood-spatteredsandals abandoned at the gate of the factory, which pro-duces chewing tobacco.“We have so far recovered 23 bodies. From his spartan room in the
Maghazi refugee camp in the
Gaza Strip, 18-year-old
Abdalla al-Haddad could
glimpse a narrow chance at a
better life: it was less than a
mile and a 3-1/2-metre fence
away.
So on a chilly night in
February, he and a friend
made a dash for it, scram-
bling over the heavily secured
steel and wire barrier that
separates Gaza from Israel.
“I was not thinking,” he told
Reuters, back in the three-
room home he shares with 11
family members.
“Ten minutes after we
jumped, illumination rounds
were fired, there was a lot of
gunfire and we were sur-
rounded by Israeli army
forces, who arrested us,” he
said.
He spent the next three
months in an Israeli jail.
“I was desperate because
there is no work in Gaza,” he
explained, describing his
daily life as sleeping and
playing football, with little
prospect of finding a job.
While it is by no means a
mass phenomenon, a rising
number of Palestinians are
trying their luck at jumping
the fence from Gaza into
Israel. Barely a week goes
by without a report from
Israeli security forces of
another attempt.
The Israeli military says it
has caught 130 in the past
year. It won`t provide com-
parative figures, but the
anecdotal evidence from
Gazans and organisations
that monitor the trend is that
numbers have been climbing
steadily.
Poverty and the lack of
prospects in Gaza are driv-
ing young people to take
ever-greater risks.
That is particularly true after
last year`s war between
Israel and Hamas, in which
the economy and infrastruc-
ture took another devastating
hit.
In May, the World Bank said
Gaza`s economy was in the
worst state in the world, with
the world`s highest unem-
ployment rate at 43 percent,
rising to nearly 70 percent
among 20-24 year olds.
Those figures do not fully
express the human toll for
1.8 million residents confined
to an area of 160 sq km (60
sq miles), unable to leave
without permits, its report
added.
Palestinians in Gaza, unlike
those in the West Bank, are
not permitted to work in
Israel, which stopped issuing
work permits to Gazans when
the strip fell under control of
Hamas, designated a terrorist
group by the United States
and European Union.
For Gazans, fence with Israelis a leap into the unknown
Young North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has executed 70
officials since taking power in late 2011 in a “reign of terror”
that far exceeds the bloodshed of his dictator father’s early
rule, South Korean officials said.
South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se, at a forum in
Seoul, compared Kim Jong Un’s 70 executions with those of
his late father, Kim Jong Il, who he said executed about 10
officials during his first years in power.
An official from South Korea’s National Intelligence Service,
who refused to be named, citing office rules, confirmed that
the spy agency believes the younger Kim has executed
about 70 officials but wouldn’t reveal how it obtained the
information.
Yun also said that the younger Kim’s “reign of terror affects
significantly” North Koreans working overseas by inspiring
them to defect to the South, but he also didn’t reveal how he
got the details.
North Korea, an authoritarian nation ruled by the Kim family
since its founding in 1948, is secretive about its govern-
ment’s inner workings, and information collected by out-
siders is often impossible to confirm. High-level government
purges have a long history in North Korea.

Even as the government grappled with issues including defin-
ing what constitutes wholesale and retail trade in the context of
permitting foreign investment in business-to-consumer (B2C)
e-tailing, e-commerce companies in a meeting with the indus-
try department demanded greater ease of doing business and
urged the Centre to bring out more clarity on tax issues ham-
pering their business.
Meanwhile, in the stakeholders meeting convened by industry
secretary Amitabh Kant, the Confederation of All India Traders
(CAIT) said e-commerce has become a tool for converting
India into a dumping ground, adding that dumping of cheap
goods — even below the actual price of the manufacturer —
happens when prices are artificially lowered by accessing
funds from overseas sources. “E-tailers are openly circum-
venting the norms and indulging in B2C model which is creat-
ing an uneven level playing,” CAIT said in a statement.
Among those who attended the meeting included representa-
tives from CAIT, Retailers Association of India, CII, FICCI,
eBay, Flipkart, Amazon, US-India Business Council, Walmart,
