DR. AZNAN HASANAznan is currently an Associate Professor in Islamic Law and the former head of Islamic Law Department, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia. He received his first degree in Shariah from the University of al-Azhar and a Master’s degree in Shariah

from Cairo University with distinction. He then obtained his Ph.D. in Law from the University of Wales, Lampeter, United Kingdom.He is the current President of the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (“ASAS”). He is also the Deputy Chairman of Shariah Advisory Council of the Securities Commission and a former member of the Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia. Dr. Aznan serves as Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Board, Barclays Capital (DIFC, Dubai), a member of the Shariah Advisory Board, ABSA Islamic Bank (South Africa), FNB Bank, Yasaar Limited, Khalij Islami, European International Islamic Bank (“EIIB”), Amanahraya Berhad, Amanah Raya Investment Bank Labuan, Employee Provident Fund and some other financial institutions and corporate bodies at both local and international level. He also serves as a Shariah consultant to Maybank Investment Bank. He is a registered Shariah Advisor for the Islamic Unit Trust Schemes and Islamic securities (Sukuk), Securities Commission of Malaysia as well as a Member of the National International Zakat Organisation (“IZO”) Coordination Committee, an advisory body established under the Prime Minister’s Department, and a member of the Shariah Supervisory Board of the Waqaf Foundation (Yayasan Waqaf), a corporate entity formed by the government to oversee the application of Waqaf in Malaysia.Aznan is also a prominent author in Islamic finance and to date, has authored a number of books and publications in journals and has presented several conference papers at various international events and conferences.

DATO’ ANDRI AIDHAM BADRI Dato’ Andri is a founder partner of Kadir Andri & Partners. He read in the Chambers of Kadir Kassim in the then Kadir, Tan & Ramli, and thereafter served as a legal assistant until November 2000 when he was made a partner. Prior to joining the firm, he served in the Malaysian Judicial and Legal

Service as Federal Counsel. Dato’ Andri currently heads the Firm’s Islamic Banking practice and is highly regarded for his expertise in banking and finance (Islamic and conventional) and corporate matters including construction, projects and privatisations. He has considerable experience in structuring Islamic financing transactions and is at the forefront of developing new Islamic banking products. Dato’ Andri is a published author. He has written a chapter on "Judicial Review" for the Malaysian Court Forms and co-authored the Judicial Review handbook, both publications by Lexis Nexis. He has also contributed a chapter in the Malaysian Sukuk Market Handbook published by RAM Rating Services Berhad. The Legal 500 Asia Pacific consistently names Dato’ Andri as a leading lawyer in his field and has described him as being “very professional with excellent knowledge in Islamic finance.”

JAL OTHMANJal heads the Islamic Finance practice in Shook Lin & Bok, Malaysia. Jal was instrumental in setting up the Islamic Finance practice and continues to chart the course of this practice area within the firm. Jal heads a team of approximately 20 lawyers advising

on Islamic finance deals. Leveraging on 16 years of experience as a banking and finance lawyer, Jal guides and leads his team in the retail, mezzanine and tier one financing deals, both for onshore and cross border clients. His portfolio of work includes advising on a wide range of sukuk issuances for financing power plants in Malaysia and China, vessel construction, project financing for the automotive industry, the textile and garment industry, the downstream and upstream palm oil industry, advising on Islamic structured products and Islamic syndicated financing. Jal is also very much involved in the Islamic finance industry. Jal holds positions in INCEIF University (an institution established under the auspices of the Malaysian Central Bank). Jal has also been commissioned by the Malaysian Securities Commission and the Rating Agency of Malaysia in relation to product development and regulatory requirements. Jal is also involved in law reform with his involvement in the Malaysian Central Bank committee for Islamic Finance Law Reform.

Jal also sits on the technical committees of the Malaysia Accounting Standards Board (“MASB”) and the Malaysia Institute of Accountants (“MIA”). Additionally, he is also a moderator with the Finance Accreditation Agency (“FAA”) and an arbitrator for Islamic Finance with the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (“KLRCA”). Jal is also a chapter reviewer and contributor for the International Shariah Research Academy (“ISRA”).Consistent with the Firm’s policy of driving a global presence, Jal has participated on various international platforms as a speaker, moderator, panelist and commentator. These include conferences, workshops and forums in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Egypt and Singapore.

MOHD NAZRI BIN CHIKMohd Nazri Chik is the Group Chief Shariah Officer of BIMB Holdings Berhad and Chief Shariah Officer, Bank Islam Malaysia. He is also Deputy Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Council of Amana Bank Limited, Sri Lanka; Accredited Panel of Finance Accreditation Agency;

Executive Committee Member of Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS) and Accredited Trainer for Islamic Banking and Finance Institute of Malaysia (IBFIM).He holds a Master Degree and Bachelor Degree in Shariah (Islamic Jurisprudence) from University of Malaya. He started his career as a tutor in the same university in 2001; until he joined Bank Islam in June 2004 until he left the Bank to join Noor Investment Group, Dubai UAE in September 2009 as its Shariah Audit Manager for a brief period. During this time, he has been appointed as a member of the Shariah Supervisory Council of Bank Islam until he rejoined the Bank as its Head of Shariah Division in January 2011. At Bank Islam, he is responsible for strengthening the Shariah governance framework of the Bank and facilitating the Bank efforts in offering Shariah compliant products and services to its customers. In May 2014, the Asian Banker magazine selected him as the recipient of the “Promising Young Banker Award 2014.”

MEGAT HIZAINI HASSAN Megat graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Hons) from International Islamic University Malaysia. He also holds a Masters in Law from Harvard Law School and Masters in Law from University of Cambridge. Prior to joining Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill, he was practising

at Zaid Ibrahim & Co. and was involved as a director of ZI Shariah Advisory Services Sdn Bhd, a Shariah compliance advisory firm registered as a Shariah Adviser for Sukuk and Islamic capital market products with the Securities Commission of Malaysia. He advises on matters relating to Islamic banking and finance, as well as corporate legal and regulatory developments. He advises clients on the structure and documentation for Islamic financing facilities, and appropriate structures for Islamic financing and investments. In particular, he has advised institutional and corporate clients on Islamic financing and investment structures based on the application of Shariah principles such as Murabahah, Commodity Murabahah/Tawarruq, Ijarah, Bai’ Istisna’, Bai’ Salam, Bai’ Bithaman Ajil, Bai’ Inah, Musharakah and Mudarabah. He has also advised domestic and international clients on issues relating to the legal and regulatory framework of Islamic banking and finance, as well as matters relating to applicable Shariah standards for Islamic financial/investment transactions in Malaysia and abroad. His name has been included as one of the leading lawyers in Islamic finance in publications such as International Financial Law Review’s Guide to the World's Leading Islamic Finance Lawyers and Expert Guides, Chamber’s Asia as well as Islamic Finance News. He is the co-author of a book entitled “The Law and Practice of Islamic Banking and Finance” (First Edition 2003, Second Edition 2010, Third Edition 2015) published by Sweet & Maxwell as well as co-author of another book, “An Introduction to Islamic and Conventional Corporate Finance” (2012) also published by Sweet & Maxwell, and has authored articles on Islamic banking and finance for several publications. He is a registered arbitrator for Islamic finance in the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration, an accreditation panel member of the Finance Accreditation Agency Malaysia, a member of the Islamic finance committee of the Bar Council of Malaysia. He was also previously a lecturer at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

MOHD JOHAN LEE KIEN HOW Johan is the managing partner of J. Lee & Associates, a medium-size award-winning legal firm in Malaysia. Johan graduated with LLB (Hons) degree from International Islamic University Malaysia. He also holds a Master of Comparative Laws degree, a post-graduate Diploma

in Shariah and Legal Practice both of which is from the International Islamic University Malaysia and an MA in Economics for Competition Law from King’s Collage London. He is currently a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK as well as a mediator of the Malaysian Bar.Proficient in English, Malay and Mandarin, he is the first Chinese origin Shariah practitioner ever admitted by the Shariah court. He has been a part-time lecturer in the law faculty of International Islamic University Malaysia since 1999 for both undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes. He also lectures occasionally at various other local universities, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and governmental institutions. He has also lectured and provided training at the Institute Latihan Kehakiman (ILKAP) as well as Jabatan Kehakiman Syariah Malaysia (JKSM) for both civil courts and Shariah courts judges concerning Islamic banking. He has lectured for the Master of Science in Islamic Banking programme offered by the IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF). He is also an accredited trainer of IBFIM.Johan is currently a member of the Shariah Advisory Council (SAC) of the Association of Islamic Banks Malaysia (AIBIM). He is also a Shariah consultant to few governmental agencies and government- funded banks. Besides this, he was a member of the Board of Studies of International Islamic University Malaysia for the 2010- 2012 tenure, and he is currently a member of the Board of Studies of the Faculty of Law of University Malaya for the 2015-2017 tenure. Johan is the author of the book entitled, “Legal Documentation for Islamic Banking” published by the IBFIM. The book is now the textbook for the CQIF qualification for Islamic bankers. Also, he is the co-author of the book entitled, “IFSA 2013: Commentaries on Islamic Finance & Banking” which was published by Malaysian Current Law Journal. Additionally, he has also recently authored another book entitled, “Recovery, Rescheduling and Restructuring of Islamic Banking Facilities” which was published by LexisNexis.

DR. MD NURDIN NGADIMON Nurdin is the General Manager and Head of Shariah Department attached to the Islamic Capital Market Business Group of the Securities Commission Malaysia. His main responsibilities include supervising research and development activities related to Shariah issues pertaining to

Islamic capital market products. He is also involved in coordinating and supervising the development of national policies and guidelines for the Islamic capital market in Malaysia. In addition, Nurdin is the lead Shariah supervisor in the reviewing of Shariah compliance of Islamic capital market product proposals such as Sukuk, Islamic structured products and Islamic REIT.

Prior to joining Securities Commission in October 1995, he was attached to the Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur as a lecturer in Fiqh Muamalat (Islamic business transaction). Since then, he was continuously involved in the establishment and development of Islamic capital market in Malaysia. Nurdin was the pioneer member of the Islamic Instrument Study Group (“IISG”) set up by Securities Commission in 1994. It was since 1994 that he began to participate actively in the development of Islamic capital market by providing advice, guidance and ideas to develop the market.

Nurdin was a member of Shariah governance working group committee set up by Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) and is a member of standing committee for Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (“MASB”) on Islamic financial reporting. He is also involved as consultative panel on matters related to Shariah for Law Harmonisation Committee (“LHC”) established by the Central Bank of Malaysia. He obtained a First Class Hons in Shariah from University of Malaya and his Master in Islamic Jurisprudence from University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan and PHD from University of Birmingham, UK.
